  • LHRL #150 – A world class eating and running competition

    26/06/2019

https://youtu.be/B8TtFv3KUvs Sam Renfrow decided to stir the pot. Gavin May is a world-class eater, as is Wilson. Sam managed to mix the words harshly enough to where the only way that Gavin and Wilson can maintain their friendship is to settle a score. The date has been set for Saturday, July 20th where Wilson and Gavin will sit down across a table from one another and see who can eat the greatest amount of pizza to benefit the Chris Hope Foundation. The details are still being ironed out but as of right now we are looking at planning a four-hour trail run at Tour De Wolf in Shelby Farms and immediately going to Rizzi's Pizza Cafe in Arlington, Tn to try and tackle their 28" monster pizza. Details to follow soon. • Throwing it back to the Sylamore 25K & 50K episode

    18/06/2019 Duração: 57min

This week we are replaying one of our favorite episodes. Episode #39 from the Sylamore 25K and 50K. We think it's worth a revisit! Enjoy. Last weekend, we had an awesome crew of folks get together and run the Sylamore 25k/50k. This is my third year participating, and I think I enjoy it more and more each year. The people we had in our cabin, in our group, and on the trail are what makes this race so much fun. The trail itself is covered in beauty. The scenery is majestic and the race itself is run beautifully. We, of course, felt the need to bring the recording equipment. I can't promise that we cover just a great deal about the race, but we sure had a great time anticipating the run. I hope that you enjoy this episode as much as we did. Peace, love, and all things Beef related, Beefcake

  • What is CrossFit and what does it mean to “do” CrossFit?

    12/06/2019

https://youtu.be/jxUeaZ6EiD4 This week on the Lift Heavy Run Long® Podcast: The Rev's parents are moving, today, like right now...so leave work and come home and help. Crystal "Pistol" Landers asks the Fleet Feet Running community for suggestions for a low budget shoe to help her friend that battled cancer and is trying to get fit. What she found was an outpouring of love and support. We talk about the beautiful thing that is white bread sandwiches. Beefcake drinks 4 liters of coke in a day-and-a-half....because it was there. (That is probably more than he has drank in four years combined) We spend the majority of the time discussing, "What is CrossFit? What does it mean to CrossFit?". We talk about the haters, the advocates and the indifferent. it is a fun conversation and although we don't all share the same opinions we have a good time debating the topic.

    29/05/2019

https://youtu.be/mfwtSYdkt6g Man, oh man, oh man! We certainly had plenty to talk about on Episode #148. For those of you who don't know, last week Von went on an expedition which was a simulation of a Special Forces type experience. He planned on it being a really tough 8-day adventure but what he did not expect was that he would have an absolutely wicked case of rhabdomyolysis within 24 hours of the event. Unable to move his arms and urinating the color of black coffee, Von knew that something had to give. He went to the cadre's tent and told him that he had to stop. Upon seeing the color of his urine, they immediately called the paramedics and Von was rushed to the hospital for a 5-day stay. Von shares with us what his experience was like, how he plans to recover and the changes that this experience has done for his outlook. It is really an amazing story and even more amazing is the attitude and outlook that Von has as a result. You are not going to want to miss this one!

  • Emily Reed – The future of CrossFit, Gyms in Mountain Home, Arkansas and judging at the Games

    03/04/2019

https://youtu.be/h7UFOg4jNVE Emily Reed is a small town lawyer with a CrossFit problem.  She is a life long resident of Mountain Home, Arkansas, with a solo practice handling mostly family law issues and select criminal defense matters. After several years of practicing law, it was at an annual meeting of lawyers that she looked around and realized her sedentary profession was killing her and her colleagues. Barely a casual jogger herself, she decided to try something new, and that’s when she saw The CrossFit Games on ESPN. She found a local gym and joined. Six months or so later in 2014 she was at CrossFit Mayhem getting her Level 1 certification. She’s enjoyed coaching at her local affiliate, CrossFit Amend. She also has her Level 2 certification and some other neat papers from Crossfit HQ. She has also taken a stab at judging the big dogs at Central Regional and The Crossfit Games in 2017. While she’s not super fit by any stretch, she is a super dog mom to her main man, Bubba.

https://youtu.be/BCToh3m-xBc Taylor Somerville is the Founder and CEO of The Long Game, LLC and Symmetry. Taylor worked in the investment business for over 15 years until 2017 when he decided to transition his career to focus full time on health and fitness and started his company, Symmetry. After going through a divorce in 2014, Taylor began focusing on his long time love of fitness and through that process, discovered breathwork as a way to deal with stress and anxiety.  Through breath work, Taylor was able to change how he responded to stressful situations and learned to respond instead of react.  In 2015, Taylor began working with a group called XPT, started by Laird Hamilton and Gabby Reece. Through XPT, Taylor delved deeper into breathwork and learned about heat and ice contrast therapy.  After seeing the positive benefits in himself, Taylor felt a calling to help others with their stress and anxiety through XPT’s philosophies. In 2018, Taylor was invited by XPT to be a part of the first group of XPT ce

    06/03/2019

https://youtu.be/XDztKyo-3-0 It's our monthly installment of "Just the Hosts". As usual, all bets are off and we spend an hour talking about whatever comes to mind. If the topic is fitness, that's cool. If the topic is family, that's cool too. It the topic is a week-long pizza and ice cream bender, well that is just part of it. This podcast is about friends getting together to entertain and enjoy each others company while getting to form new relationships along the way. On this episode we talk about Thirsty and The Rev crushing Give Camp Memphis by building websites for non-profits (and how I waited by my phone all weekend waiting for the invitation but it never came. #sadface.) We discuss Jacked and Tan getting back on point with her nutrition as she is dialing it all in with the help of Kate Lyman Nutrition. We talk about the CrossFit Open and 19.1. And, of course, we couldn't have a show without the universally popular "Hypotheticals" segment brought to you by Ted Horrell. Thank you for supporting Li

  • LHRL® #135- Brian Williams & Sean Hilsdon

    27/02/2019

https://youtu.be/33tVFo71zhU This week we had the pleasure of conversing with our old friends Sean Hilsdon and Brian Williams. Brian and Sean are the Race Directors for the wildly successful Big Hill Pond Walking Tall 25k/50k.  The race is filling up fast so we hope you will sign up today.  Below is a little about what you can expect at BHP. Big Hill Ponds 50/25k is run in Pocahontas TN.  It will be run Oct 19th 2019. The race will have 31 or 15.5 miles made up almost entirely of single track trail with only a little park road used to string out the competition.  The race features a fire tower that you will have to climb and a swamp boardwalk that is over a half mile across.  The name of the race comes from the history of the area and local sheriff Buford Pusser, who is known for his virtual one-man war on moonshining, prostitution, gambling, and other vices along the Mississippi-Tennessee state line.  The race will offer enough scenery and elevation for the most grizzled trail runner but should be doable fo

  • LHRL® #134 – Live from the Sylamore Trail 25k and 50k race in Arkansas

    20/02/2019

https://youtu.be/nAxIJY3RMNM Sylamore 25K/50K. Another year. I can't believe it. It's hard to say where I would be if I had not found these people or this race but I believe that I would be in a very different spot. The Sylamore 50k and the people that are part of it are very special to me. For five years in a row this race has meant something different each year but it always means gratitude and appreciation for everything that I have been through and all of the people who have helped me get through it. As always, I don't travel far without recording equipment and I am always quick to cram a microphone in anyone's face who is willing to tolerate it. I am fortunate that the people around me appreciate the LHRL® Podcast and are willing to subject themselves to the discomfort of putting on a headset while the cameras and equipment record. We have a great thing going at Lift Heavy Run Long. Getting to know everyone who enhances the community and watching people accomplish their first race distances and all

  • LHRL® #133- Judge Allen Couch, Sylamore, the Tunnel Hill 50 miler and hypotheticals

When not on the bench, Allen enjoys playing guitar and drums, hunting, woodworking, knife making, creative writing and travel. In other words, retirement cannot come soon enough! Allen does not enjoy running however, but sees it as a means to an end. After following his wife around to numerous races and dubbing himself the “Race Sherpa” Allen decided to give it a try. Flirting with 300 lbs., it was time to do something. Since 2012, he’s completed dozens of marathons, ultras and recently, a 50 miler. The obvious health benefits aside, per
