  • LHRL Podcast #18 Throwing Up, Sobering Up, Lifting it Up, Running it up, Living it Up

    05/08/2016

Throwing Up, Sobering Up, Lifting it Up, Running it up, Living it Up This was not our usual podcast. On this episode, the roles were reversed. I had the pleasure of being a guest on the RunRunLive 4.0 Podcast, hosted by Chris Russell. The RunRunLive 4.0 podcast has been around for quite some time, and is generally catered towards distance runners. Chris was kind enough to take an interest in me and my story, and we were able to talk some running, lifting, and overall living. My life includes a whirlwind of events, ranging from huge windfalls, to incredibly low pitfalls. It's a story that involves going from the penthouse to the outhouse, and back again, numerous times, in a life that has only been going on for 39 years. We talk a little bit about this, as well as how I came to be involved with LHRL, and lead the life that I have today. I am an incredibly fortunate individual. I have been given a fantastic life, and I am blessed with the opportunity to speak with some fascinating people. I hope that you

  • LHRL Podcast #15 w Lisbeth Darsh

    14/07/2016

https://youtu.be/oxjC-mUW1Ao So, I like to write, but I have a hard time considering myself "a writer". My grammar is really poor, and my sentence structure can be rather elementary. I guess it's not really important, but it does bother me. No one else really seems to care what I call myself. The same goes for running. People, myself included, have a hard time classifying themselves as "runners" if they don't run a certain distance or speed. This is all based on how I feel about myself, as well as my perception of how others feel about me. Sometimes thing just smack you in the face and make you feel a little different about things...... Meet Lisbeth Darsh. I really don't know how to describe her. I would give you a brief bio on her, but it won't really tell you who she is. You are just going to have to listen to feel her passion for life and her willingness to just "go for it". I began reading her blog, wordswithlisbeth.com, and I can't get enough of it. Lisbeth is a very knowledgeable teacher with a passio

  • LHRL Podcast Episode 14: Janice Ferguson

    07/07/2016

We had yet another awesome time talking with Janice Ferguson this week.  Janice is a pretty amazing individual.  CrossFit competitor, Gym Owner, American Ninja Warrior, Broken Skull Challenge...the list goes on and on.  And then, she drops something on us we've never heard of before, the SISU Iron race.  We're going to have to have her back for another hour of goodness very soon.  I hope you enjoy this as much as we did.  Here are some relevant links from the show: Ignore Everybody: and 39 Other Keys to Creativity http://janicemarieferguson.blogspot.com Broken Skull Challenge Bandit CrossFit SISU Iron

  • LHRL Podcast 13 with Alex Viada

    30/06/2016

We had a really fun time chatting with Alex Viada of Complete Human Performance.  I've been following Alex for a long time, but this was my first time getting to talk to him.  He's always been someone I looked up to because of all of the impressive numbers he's put up and all of the things he's accomplished, so I was especially excited to have him on the show.  You might think that a guy that's done a couple of Ironman Triathlons, some ultra marathons, and can squat 600 lbs might be a little full of himself.  Alex is quite the opposite.  He's very humble and easy to talk to.  We could have easily filled up 2 hours of conversation with him.  If you take anything away from this episode, I hope it's this:  You can do whatever you want, and you can have fun doing it.  No matter who you are.  Here's a quote from Alex on the show: You don't have to be an incredibly gifted, genetic freak...you just have to try Right on!  We totally agree.  I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did, and don't miss the fact tha

  • LHRL Podcast Episode 12 with Thomas Cox/MealFit

    24/06/2016

I heard Thomas on the Barbell Shrugged podcast the other day, and immediately knew we had to talk to him. This guy is awesome!  Thomas has a lot of cool stuff going on, and we will definitely be talking to him again soon.  Here are a couple of his websites to check out:  http://www.mealfit.co and https://paleopluscheese.com/ I REALLY enjoyed this one, and I hope you do to!

  • LHRL Podcast Episode 11 with Valerie Hunt

    17/06/2016

I first met Valerie when I had the privilege to call her my coach a couple of years ago.  I had followed CrossFit Endurance and Pose for a long time so when I found out she was going to be my coach I was SO excited.  Since then, we've done a lot of work together and now we even have a business together (RunRx). Valerie is an amazing coach, and teaches pose running with a passion that is quite obvious when you listen to her talk about it and see her coaching.  We were stoked to sit down and chat with her on this episode of the LHRL Podcast. • LHRL Podcast Episode 9- Brian Williams and Ultras

    05/05/2016

https://youtu.be/mAYfGb0hcKI What's today? It's PODCAST DAY! It is one of my favorite days. It is a day that we get together, and do anything but take ourselves too seriously. We have begun doing an almost weekly podcast, and I have to say that it has been one of the more fun and interesting things that I have ever participated in. This week we had one of my really good friends, and a guy who I have the utmost respect for, Brian Williams. Brian sat down and talked with us about how he got started in running, and some of his most recent adventures. Brian is as good at running as he is being a good friend, husband, and father. He shares with us some of his stories from recently finishing the Zane Grey 50 Miler to participating in the Barkley Fall Classic. If you are a running fan, you will want to hear as Brian discusses how he achieved the level of success that he has earned through running. Thanks for tuning in! Peace, Love, and all things Beef related, Beefcake

  • I Can’t Even Fathom Where All This Is Going

    29/04/2016

https://youtu.be/WMJLdn5O4ws We are about to be live! The LHRL #goalgetter challenge officially begins Sunday, and things are starting to click. The participants are starting to become more comfortable posting videos and interacting with one another. With every encouraging comment comes the opportunity for another relationship or another bit of motivation, or another change in someone's life. To be a part of something like this is truly a blessing. I want to make changes in my life, but for some reason, I am unwilling to make changes when I am the sole beneficiary. "I will do it later", or "I'm not that bad off" is generally the dialogue that I have with myself. Now, things are different. I have a whole group of people who want to see me succeed, and I want the same for each of them. The LHRL #goalgetter group has the most eclectic group of folks that could be assembled in the same place. We have a heart transplant survivor, 100milers, one milers, lifters, writers, healthier eaters, hell we got a Clydesdale

  • Addiction And Recovery–Project Phenix

    14/04/2016

LHRL-Episode 7   Today, Von and I had the opportunity to talk with a gentleman named Jordan Hooker. Jordan is an employee at "Barbell Shrugged", and an active member of Faction Strength and Conditioning in Cordova, TN. Jordan is working on one a project that I believe has as much potential to change people's lives as anything that I have heard. Jordan, like myself, is a drug addict and alcoholic in recovery. He has begun working towards helping other people, who are new in recovery, by teaming up with local CrossFit gyms on an initiative called "Project Phenix". Project Phenix is a program which allows drug addicts and alcoholics the opportunity to participate in CrossFit classes, free of charge, while they get back on their feet. This is in no way rewarding the behavior of drug addicts or alcoholics, as there are expectations of not only eventually paying their own way, but also helping to financially assist newer members to the program, as they progress in both life and the recovery process. • LHRL Podcast Number 5: Brandi McGoldrick

    01/04/2016

I'm more excited about this episode than I have been about anything else in a long time. This week we got to chat with Mrs. Brandi McGoldrick. She's an awesome athlete, coach and just an all around awesome person to talk to. I think there are a LOT of things that many of us can get out of this chat we got to have with her. We talk about training, competing, eating, super powers and all kinds of great stuff, so enjoy.... -V Here are some relevant links: Training Think Tank(Brandi's Coach) CrossFit Hit and Run(Brandi's Gym) Mobility Kits(Brandi's Husband's Awesome Product)

  • It Just Came Outta Nowhere, But I Gotta Chase It

    24/03/2016

*If you are already ready to start your application process, just click here and send us a message*   I'm not exactly sure what causes these things to happen, but when they do their is no sense in trying to resist. I get an itch and I have to scratch it. Sometimes, I don't even itch, but I feel the need to search for a feather, so that I might create an itch to scratch. I feel like I have a NEED to obsess over something. I have this deep seeded desire to feel like I am chasing something. I am excited when I have a new toy, or hobby, or goal, and I must always be excited. I was playing on Facebook, as usual, when I received an interesting comment on the LHRL Athlete's Page (which anyone is welcome to join). I brushed this particular comment off to the side, and just discarded it as a crazy comment that one of my crazy friends had made. It was harmless stuff, and I was certain that I would not give it another thought....but I did. I gave it a couple of more thoughts. I casually mentioned it to Von, and we agr

  • LHRL Episode 3–Surprisingly, Still Not Syndicated

    17/03/2016

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ3biaSwH4w I have had more fun with this podcast, or vodcast, or whatever the hell you want to call it. It has been worth some good laughs and nice to get to share some neat experiences. If you have ever wondered how many YouTube subscribers you need before your phone starts ringing off the hook with sponsorship opportunities, well the answer is....more than 12. Contrary to my belief, there has not been any contracts, sponsorship, syndication, nor production offers for the LHRL Podcast, but we will continue trudging along. We weren't able to record last week due to weather and sick kids, and our fan (singular) was outraged. We were hopefully able to make it up to him with our episode this week. On this episode we bounce around topics from weather, to sugar binges, to the CrossFit Open, the MS 50-miler, and we lightly touch on our upcoming episode which will include a special guest. We are so excited about that. Like SUPER EXCITED! We have a top notch guest who is gonna bring

  • LHRL Podcast Episode 2

    04/03/2016 Duração: 29min

2 Grown Men And Their Quest For Their 5th Subscriber Last week, Von and I did our first ever podcast (technically it's a "vodcast" I believe) for Lift Heavy Run Long. I had SO much fun with it that I could hardly stand it. To be honest, our first episode was really rather sh*tty. The sound was bad, we both look like we are waiting for someone to flip the switch on our electric chairs, and we were totally winging it with our content, but that did not do anything but excite me all the more. It reminds a lot of the benefits of coming into the fitness world all fat and outta shape, smelling of beer sweats and chee-tos, versus coming from organized sports with an athletic background. When you are totally new at something, you can only go up from there. Fortunately, most of the time you don't even realize how bad you suck until you begin to suck at it less and you review your past suckiness. Your gains are quantifiable and all the newness and shininess just gets you all warm and fuzzy. The experienced athlete,

  • LHRL Podcast–Scared, Nervous, Excited, and Afraid

    26/02/2016 Duração: 24min

I got 2 turntables and a microphone....not really, but I have a mic and a bigmammy chair on wheels., and that's pretty cool.   Today I am filled with excitement and nerves. I'm a relatively high strung person anyways, but when I am looking forward to something I can be a bit much. Today Von and I are going to record LHRL's first podcast. Being that I am the stereotypical over-thinker, I have already thought about all of the things that can and will go wrong. I have already pictured us on a virtual stage where the whole world laughs and throws tomatoes at us, where people ask "why the hell would anyone give a sh*t what you have to say", all while holding torches and ready to run us outta town. Realistically, people will do all of those things (minus the tomatoes and torches...I hope), but that is the risk associated with doing it. The risk is why I MUST do it. The fear and the anxiety that I have about sitting down and recording myself tells me that there is a potential reward, and I must seek it. The rewa

  • “Sometimes, all that anyone needs to know is that somebody gives a sh*t”

    14/09/2015

September 14, 2015 STANKY CREEK 25K/50K 2015 Here we go again... It’s 4am on Sunday morning September 13, 2015. The alarm goes off loudly. I fart louder. I open my eyes, and immediately blame it on the dog, my protest muffled by the sound of my still attached CPAP mask. After this, I perform the same ritual that I perform every morning that I get the chance. I slap Amanda on the ass and I say, “it’s gonna be a good day today, red!”. I played high school football for the Germantown Red Devils. Not a day went by (win, lose, or draw) that one of our coaches, Charlie White, would walk onto the practice field and loudly pronounce that statement: “It’s gonna be a good day today, red!”. I admire his positivity and enthusiasm. I try to make this part of my every morning. Do I always believe it? Absolutely not. Do I always do it? You bet your ass. I read a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that states, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”, and I believe it to be true. I go to get dressed and begin mental
