  • FMF029 - Marketing Pillar Two: Non-Professional Referrers

    24/05/2018 Duração: 06min

A Non-Professional Referrer is a person or business outside of your specific industry that may be in a position to refer clients/patients/customers to your business.  For example, a plumber is a professional referral to a carpenter because they're industry-specific, whereas a hairdresser or coffee shop is a non-professional referrer because they are outside of the building industry.  Non-professional referrers are just as important as professional referrers and need to be nurtured the same way.  Visit my website https://www.tysonfranklin.com/news for more detailed notes or email me at tf@tysonfranklin.com if you have any questions.  It's No Secret Business Conference - CAIRNS  On the 17th and 18th of August 2018. • INS040 - Creating Your Dream Business with Captain Jim Palmer

    20/05/2018 Duração: 36min

Captain Jim Palmer shares his insights into having a dream business but first, you've got to decide what a dream business looks like to you. Your goal is to achieve FINANCIAL FREEDOM, then TIME FREEDOM. FOR COMPLETE SHOW NOTES PLEASE VISIT TysonFranklin.com

  • FMF028 - Marketing Pillar One: Professional Referrers

    17/05/2018 Duração: 05min

What is a professional referrer? A professional referrer is industry specific, meaning it is a referral that comes from someone else in your specific industry. For example, in the health industry a Physiotherapist may receive a referral from a GP or Podiatrist, an Accountant may receive a referral from a Financial Planner or Bank Manager, and a Plumber may receive referrals from a Carpenter.  When you receive referrals, it's important to nurture them by maintaining regular contact because a referral you receive today could be gone tomorrow, but it's not always your fault.  If you're an Accountant and you've been receiving referrals from a Lawyer for years, and then suddenly they stop, there could be reasons out of your control: A family member has set up an accounting practice A new Accountant has come to town and has done a better job than you at maintaining contact More often than not referrals are lost because you take them for granted, so here are a few tips to help nurture your professional referrers.

  • INS039 - Trademarks: Don't Take A Sword To A Gun Fight with Donna Patane

    13/05/2018 Duração: 41min

Donna Patane is a highly qualified Lawyer and Trademarks Attorney based in Cairns, and when it comes to winning a dispute in court over the use of a business name, the person owning the trademark is holding the gun, and the person with only a business name registration is holding the sword. Donna's advice is don't take a sword to a gun fight, as you will lose every time.  In this episode we discuss: Why small business owners need to protect their business names Trademark rules are similar in Australia, USA and the rest of the world (except China) The four entities, Company names, Business Names, Domain Names and Trademarks, and which is more powerful in a court of law.  A business name is there to protect the consumer, not the business owner. WOW!!! Advice for all business owners: Make sure you check the ASIC website for company and business names registrations. Also, check domain registrations and quirky variations using numbers and letters, and go onto IP Australia.  If you considering selling overseas, y

  • FMF027 - You Can't Polish A Poo (Part 3)

    10/05/2018 Duração: 05min

This week I want to talk about your education, or more importantly who is educating you? As a general rule, you should never get your marketing education from the same person who is trying to sell you advertising, and this applies to all forms of advertising, both offline and online.  The Sales Rep has one job to do: sell you advertising. And that’s what they’re going to do. It’s not their fault if you’re naive. When I first moved to Cairns from the Gold Coast my business boomed, even without me gaining any additional business knowledge. But in all the excitement, I almost went broke because I signed up for advertising that was a bad fit for my business and my target market. I was led to believe that reach was more important than frequency, and I overspent and blew my marketing budget. It was a painful learning experience, and it took me a few years to fully recover, but there was no one to blame other than myself. Hindsight Hindsight is a great teacher, and this is why I know for a fact you need to understa

  • INS038 - High Performers Live In The No Doubt Zone with Dr Fern Kazlow

    06/05/2018 Duração: 41min

Dr Fern Kazlow (aka Dr K) is a Psychotherapist, speaker, author, and business and branding consultant and she helps business people, especially high performers, the top one percenters (1%) live in the no doubt zone.  In this podcast episode we discuss: What is Clinical Psychotherapy? Peoples resistance to change Stories, beliefs and Trances.  Trances go much deeper than stories and beliefs. Fear of Failure  Fear of Success: because they have beliefs built around what success involves. (Time, Health, Family, etc) Reframing questions Why some people only get successful to a point and can go no further.  There's more to just having Skills & Knowledge. Your Mindset and the Action you take is also important.  Why some successes are not sustainable. How the top one percenters think and behave Why you may be missing business opportunities and speaking gigs Why people can CRUSH IT, but not sustain it. Some people may see you as being successful, but if you have an unachieved goal you will not see the same level

  • FMF026 - You Can't Polish A Poo (Part Two)

    03/05/2018 Duração: 05min

When I work with my coaching clients this is one subject I like to bring up very early because a lot of money can be wasted by not understanding the difference between Reach & Frequency. These two terms are often used by Sales Reps to assist in selling their marketing product. Basically reach is the number of people that will see your marketing message, whereas frequency is about how many times they will see it. The million-dollar question Is it better to make contact with 80 potential clients one time (reach), or is it better to make contact with only 20 potential clients four times (frequency)? A Sales Rep will tell you that they are both as important as each other; however, they are wrong. I’ll say that again – they are wrong because: Reach without frequency = Wasted money Building Relationships Marketing is about building a long-term relationship with your potential clients. Therefore it is vital for your marketing message to be consistent and repetitive, to the point of almost being boring. The more

  • INS037 - Relationships in Business with Poppy & Geoff Spencer

    29/04/2018 Duração: 45min

Poppy and Geoff Spencer are Relationship Experts based in Sarasota, Florida and authors of the hugely successful book One Billion Seconds. Today we talk about relationships in and out of the workplace, and how to get more out of each relationship in a positive way. Many relationships fail because there’s a lack of communication skills and maturity, which leads to misunderstandings. Poppy and Geoff help people understand how relationships work and how to avoid the mistakes they made in their relationship. Relationships In Business and Life Many people are unaware that 2nd and 3rd marriages fail more than 1st marriages and the reason this happens is poor communication. If the underlying problem continues to exits, problems will keep repeating themselves. Spouse & Partners Working Together The are many reasons some spouses and partners can and cannot work well together, which is why the hierarchy of the business relationship is so important? Who is in charge of marketing, sales, etc? Poppy & Geoff also d

  • FMF025 - You Can't Polish A Poo (Part One)

    26/04/2018 Duração: 06min

Of course, polishing a poo is impossible, but some Sales Reps come quite close to making it sparkle, which is what I want to talk about today. I was going to title this episode beware there's a sales rep coming to see you, but I wanted a title that would grab your attention. Let Me Explain Would you ever consider swimming in a pool of sharks without a safety cage? Probably not, but this is what you do when you begin to advertise your small business. You immediately attract the attention of a lot of Sales Reps from various media outlets, all wanting to sign you up as a client. Now, I’m not saying all Sales Reps are sharks; however what I am saying is they will begin to circle like sharks when they become aware of fresh blood in the marketing waters. Sales Reps and media companies pay close attention to what their opposition is doing, so when you begin advertising expect a call within weeks, if not days, from other Sales Reps and media companies, representing radio, television, newspaper and their online counte

  • INS036 - Small Business BIG EXIT with Sam Harrop

    22/04/2018 Duração: 51min

Sam Harrop is a very successful Business Coach and Mentor and is the author of two books, Getting Stuff Done and Small Business Big Exit. When Sam was last on my podcast, Episode #30 we talked about Getting Stuff Done, but today we're focusing on his second book Small Business Big Exit: How to make more money selling your business than running it. Big Warning: Even if you're not ready to sell your business right now you need to pay attention to Sam's advice because it will help you make a lot of money.  Sell When You Want The worst time to sell your business is when you have to. Therefore the best time to sell is when you want to when you're in control. Eight-four percent (84%) of small businesses listed to sell do not sell, and when they do sell, they sell for much lower than the business owner expected, usually 1.5 times earnings. Introducing The 5P Framework 1. PURPOSE  You need to be clear about why you want to sell, when you want to sell, how much you want to sell for, and how much you need to sell for.

  • FMF #24 - Is Your Business Green And Growing Or Ripe And Rotting?

    19/04/2018 Duração: 04min

I would love to take credit for the title of this blog and podcast, but it’s a quote from Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonald's. I’m not sure if Founder is the correct title for Ray Kroc, especially after seeing the movie FOUNDER, but Ray Kroc was the man who made systems what they are today. Ray Kroc took systems, developed initially by the McDonalds Brothers and made them better, and also made them his own. Good enough was never good enough for Ray Kroc. The Success Ray Kroc was asked why McDonald’s was such a success, and his answer was straightforward: “We take the hamburger business more seriously than anyone else making hamburgers”. If you think about that statement, it is incredibly bold, but it is also very accurate. So, how seriously do you take your own business? Did you set it up because it was better than working for someone else? Was there any real passion behind your business idea, or was it a means to an end? And, are you willing to do what is required to make your business a successful enterpris

  • INS035 - Mastering Your Mindset with Deb Johnstone

    15/04/2018 Duração: 40min

Many small business owners find it challenging to stay focused on the task ahead because of shiny bright lights? And often they let their negative thoughts affect their decision making or lack of decision making and this is where Deb Johnstone from Transformational Pathways Australia comes in. Deb Johnstone is a Mindset and NLP business coach, and I can honestly say she helped me keep my head screwed on when I needed it most and with her advice and guidance also helped me make decisions much faster.  How we think and what we say has a significant impact on our actions and how we approach our business life. We often fall into generalisations with our comments that are not true. For example, you may say, no one wants to work part-time in your particular industry, but this is not true. There may not be many people wanting to work part-time, but it's not on one.  Your Unconscious Mind Your unconscious mind will delete messages and signs if you keep repeating untrue statements. If you say no one wants to buy your

  • FMF #23 - Time Versus Money: 6 Reasons Why Time Holds More Value

    12/04/2018 Duração: 04min

How often have you heard a wealthy person say that time with the people you love is far more important than how much money you make or how much you have in the bank? We hear it all the time, and if this is TRUE, why do we keep trading our time for money each day?  Is it disbelief? Are wealthy people telling us lies so they can keep all the money to themselves? Are they just being greedy? I don’t think so, but I do believe that hindsight is a beautiful thing, and it’s easy to point out errors in life after the fact, but much harder to do when you’re in the thick of it.  It’s also easy to see errors when you look at it from a different perspective, or an outsider looking in. It’s like watching the football match from the comfort of your warm lounge chair with the benefit of ten different camera angles, and you can see gaps all over the field, but the players can’t, and it frustrates you to death. It's easy to get blinded in the heat of battle, and I think this is the message wealthy people are trying to share.

  • INS034 - 5 Ways to Approach Adversity with Wilson Lawrence

    08/04/2018 Duração: 45min

Wilson Lawrence is a Performance, Personal Development and English Communications Coach and today we are talking about the 5 Ways To Approach Adversity. Regardless of who you are or the type of business you run we are all going to be faced with adversity multiple times in our careers, but what is important is how we approach it. When something catastrophic happens, we tend to overwrite this with a feeling or emotion, and this is going to affect how we physically feel and how we approach our work. For example, when X happens, I’m feeling this? Name The Feeling It’s important to be able to name the feeling and then reflect backwards. Well, I’ve been in situations like this before and felt the same way, and I’ve come through them. Knowing and being aware of this gives you confidence. “Adversity causes some men to break; others to break records”. – William Arthur Ward 1. HAVE CONFIDENCE You need to have confidence and belief that you can figure things out using, past feelings and emotions. It’s when you go into

  • FMF #22 - Can You Trust A Relationship That Starts With A Lie?

    05/04/2018 Duração: 04min

Last Monday was Easter Monday, which in Australia is a public holiday, except if you work for yourself, it’s more a day to catch up on things without there being phone calls and emails. Anyway I was on Facebook and I saw a post about an upcoming webinar on growing your health business and since that is my industry, and it looked worthwhile, I decided to register. Opt-In Now, I understand that as soon as I opt in for this type of webinar I will be added to their database and SALES FUNNEL and I will receive emails for the rest of my life, but I also know I can unsubscribe if I find no long-term value. So I don’t have a problem with this, BUT they must think I'm dumb because below is the email I received one-hour after registering for the webinar on Easter Monday. Hi Tyson, I was just in the office and was looking at the people who registered for the upcoming webinar - your name was on the list! Nothing too serious here. Just wanted to reach out and personally welcome you. I’m really looking forward to seeing yo

  • INS033 - 4 Pillars of Marketing with Rem Jackson

    01/04/2018 Duração: 45min

Rem Jackson is the CEO and founder of Top Practices, which is a marketing and management company for doctors in the field of podiatry. Now, before you shoot of thinking this podcast is not for you because you're not a podiatrist, stop, listen and learn, because marketing is marketing regardless of the profession.  Marketing is the single most valuable use of your time regardless of the type of business you have.  Riches in Niches There's a great benefit is doing one thing very well. By staying focused you don't diffuse your energy. A laser and a light bulb both produce light, but it's the focus and intensity of the light that makes the difference.  Marketing is fun because the results are very obvious. If there is an increase in revenue and patient/client numbers then you know it's working.  Frustration Initially, marketing can be frustrating because it can be slow in the beginning and you don't always see immediate results. It takes patience and over time you do build momentum and with momentum comes results

  • FMF #21 - Mud Crab Boogie

    29/03/2018 Duração: 05min

My brother I grew up on the Gold Coast, and we spent a lot of time crabbing on the weekends. We’d go out early in the morning, just before sunrise and we’d get back at sunset. On a good day, we’d catch dozens of mud crabs.  Once caught we’d place them in a large bucket, well actually it was more like a big plastic rubbish bin, with two sturdy handles on either side for ease of getting it out of the boat. Lid Not Required What was interesting is we never bothered placing a lid on the bucket because our parents taught us that the crabs would never get out because as soon as one tried to escape, the other crabs would quickly grab hold of it and pull it back into the bucket with the rest of the crabs. I witnessed this time and time again, and it never ceased to amaze me. Instead of helping and supporting each other to escape, the crabs would do whatever it took to keep them in the bucket. Negative Friends Now I know I’m talking about crabs, and they don’t have the intellect or understanding about co-operation as

  • INS032 - An Entrepreneurial Journey with Cindy Rodriguez

    25/03/2018 Duração: 36min

Today I have the pleasure of talking with Cindy Rodriguez, from Orlando Florida about startups, her podcast The Fierce Entrepreneur and what she has learnt through her entrepreneurial journey in the business world.   Entrepreneurs Mindset All entrepreneurs struggle with the same two things, time management and giving up control and it takes time to be able to come to terms with them and use them to your benefit.  Entrepreneurs understand the importance of networking. If you want to grow your business or promote your startup you've got to learn to not be afraid to reach out to people. Business can be a very lonely place, and more often than not your friends don't quite understand what it is you do, so you need to network with other business people.   Travelling The Same Path It's important to find others travelling the same path as you and you must be willing to share. The more we openly share with others the better it is for everyone. It's import to have an abundance mindset, not a scarcity mindset.  What is
