FMF #20 - Don't Change Anything For 6-Months
22/03/2018 Duração: 05minFor the past three years, and this year will be my fourth, I’ve attended a 3-Day event in Tempe, Arizona, run by Success Technologies and Dave Frees. Each year the event alternates its theme. One year it will be 3-Days To Success and the other year Business Black Ops, both fantastic events. Last year, or it could have been the year before someone commented on how new employees or new members joining your team, where a pain in the butt and as soon as they arrive they want to start changing our systems. You’ll have systems in place that have worked exceptionally well for years, but from day one they come to you with ideas and suggestions on how they can be improved. Initiative Is Good Now don’t get me wrong, I love the initiative and also like knowing the employee cares enough about my business to think about how things can be improved…However, it can be frustrating when it happens every single day. Anyway, Dave Frees shared how he handles this in his law firm, which I think is absolute gold and why I thought

INS031 - Packaging Your Thoughts For Profit with Paul Wright
18/03/2018 Duração: 51minToday I talk with Paul Wright about the concept of information marketing and packaging your thoughts for profits. Paul Wright is a Physiotherapist, business coach and mentor, and author of the best selling book How to Run A One Minute Practice. It’s important to point out that you can learn a lot from other professions, outside of what you would usually listen to, which is why Paul Wright is the perfect guest for today’s episode. If you’ve been in business for many years, you’ll have intellectual property that people are willing to pay for, such as: • Templates • Tools • Resources (audio and video) • Systems and protocols Getting Started If you’re running an event, workshop, or guest speaker, you need to record it because you don’t know if it’s something that will be worth packaging at a later date. Paul did this very early on, and it is now a profitable business. Continuity Income If you sell a DVD, a book or an audio series the deal ends when cash changes hands, but long-term income comes from creating cont

FMF #19 - What Mums Cherry Ripe Taught Me About Systems
15/03/2018 Duração: 05minToday I want to share a story from my childhood and how my mums Cherry Ripe chocolate taught me a great lesson about systems and why slight system changes can have devastating results long-term on your business if you don't keep an eye on them. My mother loved Cherry Ripe's, and about once a month she would treat herself to one of those large Cherry Ripe bars. She would tear open the bright red shiny wrapper at the top, peel it back slightly to expose the rich dark chocolate and proceed to take a moderately sized bite. She would then pull the wrapper back over the exposed cherry and coconut and place it in the fridge in the butter compartment, so it was out of sight. On average this Cherry Ripe bar would last her at least two weeks because she would only eat a small amount each time. Just a Small Bite On one particular week, I saw mum unwrap it, take a bite and put it back in the fridge, and I thought to myself...if I take just a small bite she probably won't notice. So I did. The following day I looked back

INS030 - Getting Stuff Done with Sam Harrop
11/03/2018 Duração: 50minSam Harrop is a very successful Business Coach and Mentor and is the author of two books, Getting Stuff Done and Small Business Big Exit. Today we're going to discuss Sam's first book, Getting Stuff Done: How To Procrastinate Less and Achieve More...and who doesn't want to get more stuff done? To Get More Done You need to understand WHY you do something, and WHAT it is you want to achieve. Knowing these two things will motivate you to do more than you normally would and it helps you set priorities. Half-Finished Projects People will often have many half-finished projects because they run out of steam. And they run out of steam because there was no real WHY behind their actions. Without a strong why you'll lack the motivation to keep going. There is always another bright idea, and people tend to chase shiny bright lights, which is a distraction. Most ideas start out as great ideas, but when the initial excitement ends so will the idea if there's no WHY. It's like reading a book, just because you start it, it

FMF #18 - List Your Successes
08/03/2018 Duração: 04minAbout three weeks ago a friend and fellow Seacret agent, that’s S.E.A.C.R.E.T agent, not Secret Agent, from Canada, Nicole Humphries, was visiting Cairns and while she was here she ran a workshop on leadership. She shared some awesome information and I especially liked her comments about goal setting. “You don’t have to hit every goal, you just need to be moving in the right direction”. Another topic she discussed, which really stood out and had an impact on me was when she discussed listing your successes and why this was important to do. It’s really easy to focus on the things we’ve done wrong, especially the most recent ones, but we tend to forget we have far more successes than failures in life and we need to start writing these down and reading them on a regular basis. Where's my medal? Every December we take a trip down to the Gold Coast to catch up with family and as part of our annual holiday, we go to the Southport lagoon, grab a kilo of prawns and eat them on the beach. The weather is always perfec

INS029 - Build An Awesome Website with Nicky Jurd
04/03/2018 Duração: 45minNicky Jurd owns a website development company in Cairns called Precedence, who specialise in building websites for small businesses, and she feels many small business owners are leaving the financial future of their businesses in the hands of social media channels, which they do not own or control. A great social media profile is important, but it will not replace a well-designed website that you own outright. Only building your business on social media platforms is like handing over the keys and control to someone else...it's risky. Web Developer or Free Site Nicky openly admits there are many free sites where you can build and design your own website, however, to do it right you need to commit time and also some creativity, otherwise it will look poorly designed and poorly designed websites lack credibility. Trust Triggers A poorly designed website does not build trust and people only buy from businesses they trust. Things to avoid include: Using too many fonts Using the wrong font for the message Wron

FMF #17 - Learn & Profit From Their Mistakes
01/03/2018 Duração: 05minLast weekend I was at a SEACRET Skincare conference in Melbourne at the Exhibition Centre, and during the first lunch break, on day one, a group of us shot over to DFO to quickly get something to eat. When we walked into the food court I immediately spotted a hamburger shop I thought YES, it’s burgers for me, as I’m a bit of a burger lover. Now, I’m not going to mention the name of the burger joint, which is a shame because the burger itself wasn’t too bad, but nothing else was. Overall it was a terrible experience To begin with, two guys with a frown greeted me as I reached the counter. Between the two of them, neither could muster a smile. Once I placed my order, one guy immediately began cooking the meat patty while the other prepared the buns and associated salad and condiments. I tried to make small talk with them both, but I only managed to get the occasional grunt. Meanwhile, they talked with each other in a language I could not understand. I’m not sure what they were saying, but I was keeping a close

INS028 - How To Hire Super-Stars with Jay Henderson
25/02/2018 Duração: 55minJay Henderson owns a business called Real Talent Hiring and is the author of the highly successful book The Ultimate Small Business Guide To Hiring Super-Stars, and today we discuss how to identify super-stars for your business and also how to avoid duds. If you want to scale your business, grow your business and reach your goals fast, and maybe retire quicker, you need to hire the right people. The poorer hiring decision you make the longer you'll have to wait for your goals. One of the fastest ways to ruin your business is to hire the wrong person, but hiring the right person and putting them in the wrong position can be just as detrimental to your business. Objective Reliability Objectively measuring how people think and make decisions, is far better than subjectively measuring how people will behave in certain situations. People can always fake their behaviour, but they cannot fake how they think and make decisions. The best thing you can do for your team is making a great hiring decision, and the

FMF #16 - BEAT THIS: The Power of A True Goal
22/02/2018 Duração: 05minGinger Baker was the drummer for CREAM and he had one goal, to become a drummer in a band, and he had this goal way before he ever knew how to play the drums...That's the power of a true goal. INS027 - The Power of Webinars with Omar Zenhom
18/02/2018 Duração: 52minOmar Zenhom is the co-creator of the webinar platform WebinarNinja and host of the $100 MBA Show. I was super keen to learn more about webinars and how they can be of benefit to small business. Does having a webinar really help your business and can you make money from running regular webinars? The Shift We open our conversation discussing why he started his podcast show, The $100 MBA, as a daily series, then changed it to a weekly show in 2017 and now in 2018 it's back to a daily series. As your business changes, you've got to change with it. A daily show requires a lot of planning and scheduling and you also need to develop systems around batching, especially if you wanted to take a vacation, but constriction of time creates ingenuity and creativity. The Benefits of Webinars No one cares how much you know, they want to know how much you care and this is the biggest benefit of webinars, they build trust. You can't build trust on a sales page, a youtube video, or a website because there is no interaction

FMF #15 - Shark Tank Success Traits
15/02/2018 Duração: 04minLast week I spoke at a 2-day event in Brisbane called IN BUSINESS IN HEALTH and Glen Richards, one of the Sharks from the Australian Shark Tank, gave a 45-minute presentation about his journey from a country kid in western Queensland all the way through to becoming the newest member on the Shark Tank. It was an inspiring story and it made me realise that success is possible for anyone willing to put in the hard work. Some of the information and success traits shared by Glen Richards overlapped with an upcoming podcast episode I recorded recently with Wilson Lawrence, which is scheduled for release in about a months time. Wilson Lawrence and I talk about 5 Ways to Approach Adversity and I thought these five traits fitted in perfectly with Glen Richards story, so I've taken a snippet from my upcoming podcast with Wilson and thought I would share it in this weeks Five Minute Friday because the information is so good. 5 Ways to Approach Adversity 1. Have confidence 2. Keep perspective 3. Schedule Action (Have

11/02/2018 Duração: 38minTravis Chappell is a networking master and he resides in Las Vegas Nevada. He is the host of a very successful podcast Build Your Network and Facebook Group Build Your Network BETA. Why Networking? Networking is the best way to accelerate growth in life, regardless if you’re an entrepreneur, a doctor or if you're working 9-5 and working your way up the various management levels. By building relationships with people you will accelerate your career a lot faster. Networking At Conferences You need to have a strategy and plan in place before you attend the conference. Your goal is to build friendships and true real relationships. Don’t over complicate it. Don’t become Networking Ned – the person who runs around throwing business cards in everyone's face and then running off to the next person, but also don't be the other extreme, the person who is too scared to throw business cards around so instead, they do nothing. Expectations Networking at a conference starts before the conference even happens. You need a

FMF #14 - Helicopter Marketing (And Creating Business Consistency)
08/02/2018 Duração: 05minThis weeks Five Minute Friday is based on a blog article I wrote on my website back in 2015, titled Helicopter Marketing and I thought it was time to take it for another spin. I've been preparing all week for a presentation I'm doing in Brisbane and at the IN BUSINESS IN HEALTH conference for recent allied health graduates and newly established business owners and I've seen a lot of small business owners, not just in the health industry fall into a bad habit of helicopter marketing. I hope you enjoy this podcast and if you have the time please read my blog article from 2015. SAVE THE DATE: 17th - 18th August 2018 - Communication, Persuasion & Influence conference in Cairns.

INS025 - Seasons of Sacrifice with Mark Minard
04/02/2018 Duração: 52minMark Minard is an entrepreneur, speaker, best-selling author of The Story Of You, podcast host of Elevating Beyond, Owner & CEO of Dreamshine and lives in Columbus Ohio. We opened our conversation today talking about growth: As you grow and move out of your comfort zone it can sometimes feel quite lonely, however, over time you will meet other people going through the same thing because phenomenal attracts phenomenal. Like Minds Like minded people just seem to find each other. It’s these connections that make you stronger, and it's important to nurture them and not take them for granted. You need to learn from what others have done before you, and you need to tune into where others are getting their information. What are they reading, what are they listening to and what events are they attending? Information Is Far More Assessable In today’s modern world information is far more assessable, but there are two sides to this, and you need to be extremely careful. On one side there are people with vast bus

FMF #13 - Connection Is My Word for 2018
01/02/2018 Duração: 04minEvery year I choose a word to use for my yearly focus. I've found it keeps me on track. I’ve only been doing this for the past few years, and for me, it works extremely well, so maybe it's worth considering yourself. In 2016 my word for the year was ABUNDANCE When you look up the word abundance it means a state or condition of having a copious quantity of something…plentifulness. So you need to choose your mindset, do you want abundance or the opposite of abundance, which is scarcity...or lack of. Which word do you think will produce a more positive outcome for your year? In 2017 my word for the year was LEARNING I joking use to say that 2017 was my year of learning and 2018 was my year of earning. (Let's see how 2018 pans out) Now this doesn’t mean I'm switching off my learning in 2018, it’s just I now have a different word to focus on So my word for 2018 is CONNECTION. I want to connect with as many people as I can, not just in my local area or country but worldwide, and when I say connect, I don’t mean jus

INS024 - Brand Personality & ACDC with Dr. Jesse Green
28/01/2018 Duração: 30minDr Jesse Green was my guest on Episode #12: The Recovery Paradox and after we concluded that particular episode we kept talking and eventually moved onto the subject of branding and his favourite band ACDC and what he believes made ACDC one of the biggest bands in the world. I asked Jesse if he minded if I pushed record and fortunately he said yes because we have captured some absolute gems in regards to branding, brand personality, living up to your brand and how he uses ACDC in his business to connect with his clients. Authenticity is Critical Branding, when done right, creates an emotional response whenever you see that brand, which is why you must always tell the truth. If your brand tells the truth you never have to think about your story. Living Up to The Image Whatever image your brand puts out to the world it has to be one that you can easily live up to. Never make out that you're perfect when you're not. Be honest about your successes and also your failures. If your brand was a person who would

Entrepreneur Energy Most entrepreneurs have their minds switched on at all times and a lot of people wonder where they get their energy from? Here’s the answer: If you’re passionate about what you’re doing you can go all day. Many small business owners get tired because they’re doing something they don’t really like and there’s no passion. Entrepreneurs don’t get tired because they’re doing things that are interesting and usually things they love to do and this is a renewing

FMF #11 - The Blowfly Principle: Identifying Bad Clients
18/01/2018 Duração: 05minI don’t care what type of business you have, or how good your customer service is, you’re going to eventually have a few difficult clients, the ones that make you want to stay in bed on a Monday morning and not go to work. And worst of all, they will think their behaviour is perfectly normal and acceptable, not realising they're complete tools. Bad Client Traits You need to learn that most difficult clients – actually let’s call them what they are, “bad clients” – exhibit the same traits. See if any of the following sound familiar to you: They complain about your prices They’re rude and stubborn They’re always requesting discounts If you give them an account they always pay late You know the clients I’m talking about. We’ve all had them and your business will continue to have them, unless you limit your exposure to them. Indentify Blowflies Early You need to identify them early and get rid of them as soon as possible. Getting rid of bad clients frees up your time to see more good clients and it makes you

INS022 - Psychology of Commitment in Social Situations with Dr. Dave Weiman
14/01/2018 Duração: 01h27sMy guest today is Dr. Dave Weiman who is a Management Psychologist in Philadelphia. He holds multiple Masters and Doctorate degrees and is a sort after speaker, executive coach and pre-hire assessment specialist at Weiman Consulting. In this episode Dr. Dave Weiman explains the 'Psychology of Commitment' in relation to gatherings and events and why our relationships with our so-called social media friends are not as strong as those we have human contact with. We also discuss: The psychology behind decisions people make Why people respond differently depending on how you communicate with them Old style written invitations versus online invitations Holding an invitation in your hands holds so much more power. There's something about touching it that brings more commitment and this is something a screen cannot do. Facebook Invitations When you're invited to an event on Facebook there are twenty-five others things happening on the screen competing for your attention, so the invite can be lost in all this d
