Joh 4:1-6 Jesus had a divine appointment to keep with this particular woman. Josh 24:32 The Samaritans worshipped on Mount Gerizim. Deu 27:11-13 The Samaritan Bible was a corrupt version of the first five books of the Old Testament. Joh 4:7-9 First, He was speaking to an unaccompanied woman. Second, He was asking a Samaritan for a drink. The Israelites who were in the land intermarried with the gentiles, and worshipped their pagan gods alongside Yahweh. As the Christ, the Son of God. Nicodemus was a Pharisee, and he was a ruler of the Jews. Nicodemus was also the teacher of the Jews (verse 10). They believed Jesus was a great teacher. They believed that God was with Him. But they don't believe that He is the Son of God, or the Jewish Messiah, or the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Jesus knew that Nicodemus was blinded by his religion and his pride. Nicodemus was blindsided by the reply Jesus gave. The Pharisees were teaching the people that they could enter the kingdom if they kept the Law. Remember, a sign is more than a miracle. It is a miracle with a meaning. SIGN = Miracle + Meaning In the Jewish culture of that time, this would be a huge breach of hospitality. The old wine had run its course. It proved to be insufficient. The gist of it is, "you and I are not on the same page with this." But she has no concept of the ramifications of what she is asking. He will do it at the precise moment that His Father tells him to do it.
