John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, December 27, 2020 Godliness with contentment is great gain 1Ti 6:1-6 Slaves, false teachers, and the congregation generally. The behavior of the congregation can help or hinder the progress of the gospel message. Contentment in any circumstances. Phi 4:12 1Ti 6:1 At that time, there were millions of slaves in the Roman Empire. Slaves were the exclusive property of their masters, and they had no control over their lives. 1Pe 2:18-19 Regardless of circumstance, the slave was to give honor to his master. 1Pe 2:12-15 But nowhere was the church instructed to combat the institution of slavery. Rather, in Christ, slaves and masters were to treat one another as brothers. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, November 29, 2020 Continue in entreaties and prayers 1Ti 5:1-8 He begins with the theme of family. Treat one another as fellow members of a spiritual family. Eph 2:19 He instructs Timothy to appeal to members as fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. He gives a set of principles regarding the care of the widows in the congregation. 1Ti 5:1-2 Do it in a loving way, as you would your own father. Do it with tenderness and respect, Be gentle and kind. Lev 19:32 Be mindful of their need for a role model. Give no room in your heart for selfish or carnal motives. 1Ti 5:3-8 "honor" here means both to give respect and to provide for basic material needs. • Show yourself an example for those who believe

    01/11/2020 Duração: 54min

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, November 1, 2020 Show yourself an example for those who believe 1Ti 4:11-16 We all need role models. How is it supposed to be done? The pursuit of godliness. Teaching and behavior that reflect God's character. It is the time devoted to taking pains with God's word. It is the witness of hundreds of things done in love for the Lord and His people. It is, as we sometimes say, "the whole package". 2Ti 4:1-5 The best comfort always comes from the word of God. Rom 15:4-6 1Ti 4:11-16 We need to hear, over and over again, who we really are. We need to hear how we are to live in keeping with who we are. Exhortation and teaching go hand in hand. 2Ti 3:16-17 Rom... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1375

  • Godliness is profitable for all things

    25/10/2020

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, October 25, 2020 Please keep Steve and Marilyn in prayer. Godliness is profitable for all things 1Ti 4:6-10 Paul is coaching Timothy again. Notice the commands. The heart of this passage is found in the word "godliness". Godliness pervades the entire letter. It is a major theme. A life of godliness (2:2). A claim to godliness (2:10). The mystery of godliness (3:16). Godliness: Sound doctrine leading to virtuous behavior. The Greek verb means "to set forth". The stepping stones are the teachings and arguments of Paul. God-breathed words now written down in the canon of Scripture. Timothy - and all ministers of the gospel - must constantly feed on these words. The sound doctrine refers to the accurate... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1374

  • Everything created by God is good

    18/10/2020 Duração: 01h06min

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, October 18, 2020 Everything created by God is good 1Ti 4:1-5 Wherever truth flourishes, error will rear its ugly head. So here, on the one hand, the Spirit is prophesying about the future "last days". 2Ti 3:1-2 The present apostasy is a foretaste of the fuller apostasy in the last days. 1Ti 4:1 "Some" includes both erring members of the congregation and the false teachers. The apostasy has its origins in demonic influence, and lies inspired by demons. 1Ti 4:2 The demons have human allies. They do the bidding of the demons. 1Jo 4:1 Acts 20:29-31 1Ti 4:2 Hypocrisy: they were not who they claimed to be. 2Co 11:13-15 They knew they were lying, but they didn't care. • Great is the mystery of godliness.

    11/10/2020 Duração: 01h05min

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, October 11, 2020 Great is the mystery of godliness 1Ti 3:14-16 Our passage today is the high point of the letter. Timothy needed to hear from Paul right away. The church was really sick. Why does their behavior matter so much? Each saint needed to know how to conduct himself in God's household, the church. The Holy Spirit dwells in the church. To be strong and steadfast in guarding and proclaiming the truth - the gospel. 2Ti 1:14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. A mystery is a fact that was hidden from all until God decided to reveal it. Godliness usually refers to teaching or behavior that is approved by God and reflects His character. Rom 16:25-26 The mystery is the gospel: God's... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1370

  • The office of overseer.

    27/09/2020 Duração: 01h04min

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, September 27, 2020 The office of overseer 1Ti 3:1-7 In chapter 3, he turns his attention to the leaders in the assembly. verses 1-7: criteria for the office of overseer. verses 8-13: criteria the office of deacon. Tit 1:5-9 Overseer and elder refer to the same office. Pastors and teachers are gifts, not offices. Very little is said about the duties of that office. Of first importance is the character of the man. His observable behavior would reveal both virtues and vices. 1Ti 3:2 Tit 1:7 if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife This ideal represents the entire catalog and forms a bracket with verse 7. 1Ti 3:7 Provide nothing that an adversary could seize upon to level a damning accusation. 1Ti 3:1-3 These... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1367

  • Making a claim to godliness

    20/09/2020 Duração: 01h05min

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, September 20, 2020 Making a claim to godliness 1Ti 2:8-15 These false teachings were inflicting great damage on the churches. In verse 8, Paul asks Timothy to deal with the men so that they can pray properly. In verses 9-14, Paul addresses the propriety of the women during the public church services. In verse 15, he addresses the proper role of married women in family life. 1Ti 2:8 The key here is the word "holy". An angry or openly hostile man is in no condition to pray properly. 1Ti 2:9-10 How a woman (or a man for that matter) dresses is a reflection of her thoughts and attitudes. Modesty and discretion in dress reflect a godly woman's inner life. But he is essentially asking the ladies to avoid ostentatious displays. 1Ti 2:11-12 Paul... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1365

  • God desires all men to be saved.

    13/09/2020 Duração: 01h01min

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, September 13, 2020 God desires all men to be saved 1Ti 2:1-7 1Ti 1:15 Beginning in chapter 2, he will give Timothy the battle plan. To understand what the fight is about! The key to verses 1-7? Two words: "all" and "men/man". What is under attack? The mission to preach the gospel to all men (and women!) 1Ti 2:1-7 The limited atonement: the heresy that Christ did not die for all members of the human race. It's an attack on God's entire plan of salvation: God's will, the purpose of Christ's death, and Paul's mission to the Gentiles. Our greatest weapon in the fight: prayer with one purpose. To mobilize the church to pray for all members of the human race. God desires the salvation of all people (verse... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1363

Paul was fond of using military metaphors in his letters. 2Ti 2:3-5 We get insight into the nature of these prophecies from a pivotal event for Paul's ministry. Col 1:26 We are who we are in Christ because of the Lord's enabling power and grace. Phi 4:13 And he is overtaken with a sense of being completely unworthy of the Lord's trust. 1Ti 1:13 His mind flashed back to who he was when the Lord called him. His name was Saul of Tarsus. Later on, he would be known as the apostle Paul. Act 26:9-11 This Saul was a persecutor and a violent aggressor. He talked about who he was, not what he did. And, unbeknownst to him, this person was in opposition to the Lord - the God of Israel! John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, August 23, 2020 Chosen People Ministries The law is not made for a righteous person 1Ti 1:3-11 In verse 6, "these things" points back to verse 5. They wanted to be what they were not, which was teachers of the Law. They had no clue about the proper use of the Law in light of the glorious gospel . There was a proper use of the Law as well as an improper use of the Law. He begins with a clear statement: the Law is good. Morally good, noble, and beautiful. But Paul sees the law as an instrument that must be wielded with precision. IF... one uses the Law appropriately. How should the Law be used?
