110 - Look For & Create Your Own Opportunities (from Powell River)
04/10/2018 Duração: 04minThis podcast was recorded in Powell River, which is a small mill town in British Columbia, Canada. Yesterday I spoke at their Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon and it got me thinking about looking for and creating your own opportunities. What do I mean by this? Pretty much don’t sit back and wait for opportunities to come to you because it could be a long wait and may never come. And I must admit, I have been guilty of this in the past. BUT, about 6-months ago I was planning a family holiday to Vancouver, Powell River and Phoenix for a conference I attend every October, before heading back home. Chamber of Commerce Soon after locking in our dates, I saw an ad in our local newspaper, the Cairns Post, about an upcoming Chamber of Commerce luncheon and the guest speaker was from out of town. When I saw at the topic I immediately thought, 'I could have spoken about about that', and I know about ten other people in Cairns that were quite capable and qualified to speak on the same subject. Anyway, after seeing

108 - What Makes Your Business Unique (From Vancouver)
27/09/2018 Duração: 04minI’ve been in Vancouver with my family for the past seven days, and I have to say that Vancouver is a pretty cool place to visit and it’s surrounded by so much natural beauty, which makes it unique. No wonder it has been named as one of the world’s most liveable cities. Anyway, yesterday we visited the Vancouver Police Museum, which I highly recommend if you’re in Vancouver, and as I was looking through the exhibits and photographs from the early 1900’s, it struck me that so many cities in the same era looked very similar. It’s hard to tell them apart. So, why am I mentioning this? It’s because regardless of how similar they all were in the early 1900’s, over the past 100 years most cities have developed a particular uniqueness or an iconic figure that separates them from each other. When you think of Stanley Park, you think Vancouver. The Golden Gate Bridge, you think San Francisco and closer to home when you see a picture of the Opera House you immediately think Sydney, Australia. And it’s the uniqueness of

104 - Make Hay While The Sun Shines
13/09/2018 Duração: 05minI'm sure you’ve all heard the saying ‘make hay while the sun shines’, which means making the most of your opportunities while you have the chance to do so or take advantage of favourable circumstances when the time is right. This phrase originated with English farmers in the 1500’s and a hundred or so years later extended into general life and quickly became a cliché. Situations Arise I’ve had a few situations over the past couple months that reminded me of the importance of this saying in our day-to-day lives, regardless of what you do. Situation #1: I was at a networking event, which was quite loud, meaning I was almost yelling for most of the night. This took its toll on my voice and the next day I was scheduled to do a podcast recording, and I couldn’t talk, so I had to reschedule the podcast for a few days later. Situation #2: I went to Podcast Movement in Philadelphia in July and even though I was not talking loud, I was meeting a lot of people and talked a lot over the three day period and pretty mu

102 - Improve Your Google Ranking With Good Content
06/09/2018 Duração: 04minI’ve had a lot of podcasts guests over the past month, and we’ve talked a lot about Google rankings, getting on page one and improving your SEO, which when we say SEO we mean Google. I get quite annoyed, and my guests shared my frustrations when we hear about businesses paying an SEO company $500 to $1500 per month and not knowing exactly what they are doing for them. What Does Your SEO Company Do? And when I ask, ‘So what is your SEO company doing for you each month’, I get met with the same response. "OH, there…UM, doing some Facebook adverts and Adwords and me, and optimising my website, so it gets ranks better". Okay, so which parts of the website are they optimising? "The parts that were not ranking". What the!!! Page One Estie Rand from Episode 54, said it best – If you’re not on page one, there’s no point, and if you're on page one for something no one is looking for, then it means nothing as well. If you’re using an SEO company, they should be able to tell and show you exactly what they are doing and

100 - Why Newspaper Advertising Still Works
31/08/2018 Duração: 15minThese days there seems to be so much focus on social media, which is why every second person you meet at a networking event is a social media marketing expert. Now don't get me wrong, I agree social media is important, but I still think there is room for old-school traditional marketing. And the newspaper is one of those old-school marketing mediums that I believe still has some benefits and still works if it is used correctly. Listen to this episode to understand why. And please email me at tf@tysonfranklin.com if you have any questions...or doubts that I'm right. My Website: https://www.tysonfranklin.com

099 - The Orthotic Economy: What's Your Measuring Stick?
30/08/2018 Duração: 05minWhether you're a Podiatrist making orthotics, a Lawyer writing a Will, a Real Estate Agent selling a house, a Dentist or a hairdresser, we all have units of measure that are worth a particular value. This episode is all about using these units of measure as a measuring stick towards helping you decide whether you do something or not. If you're thinking of attending an event or using a business coach, don't look at the costs in dollar terms, instead look at it in unit terms. For example, if a pair of orthotics generates $500 in revenue and you're considering going to an event that costs $1000, it only requires you to make two orthotics (2 x $500). With flights and accommodation and time off of work, it may cost you $3000, but that's really only six pairs of orthotics, but if attending this event helps you sell six more pairs of orthotics per month, or write six more wills, or one more house sale, then you've made your money back. But if it helps you do that same thing the next month and for the next 12-mo

097 - 7 Tips To Make Your Internal Marketing Surveys A Success
23/08/2018 Duração: 04minEvery business wants more A and B clients and less C and D clients, but how do you find them? One of the best ways is to create an internal marketing survey and ask your A and B clients some simple questions. The more you can learn about you’re A and B clients, the more you’ll also learn about where you can find them, and you can use this information in your future marketing, however, there are a few rules to follow. Hardcopy - 90%+ I know many businesses send out electronic surveys because they’re cheaper to distribute, but the open and completion rate is low, so I’m not a huge fan. I much prefer hardcopy surveys, the ones that arrive in your letterbox. I know it sounds outdated, but I’ve used hardcopy surveys for years, and our return rate was always close to 90%+ However, a poorly constructed hardcopy survey can still fail. The concept of hardcopy survey works, I know this for a fact, but the delivery and process to follow is critical. 7 Tips Here are seven tips to remember to make sure your next internal

092 - Market Early And Create A Buzz
09/08/2018 Duração: 05minWhen I owned my podiatry business in Cairns, I decided I was going to open a second location in Mackay, which was approximately 800 kilometres away. The reason I chose this location was that I wanted to determine if my business in Cairns was successful because I had developed great business systems and marketing strategies, or was it because of my reputation as a podiatrist. Used My Time Wisely I'm pleased to say the business was a roaring success and it proved that my systems and marketing strategies were right, but one thing I learnt when I set up this business was about creating a buzz before the door opening on day one. Because Mackay was 800 kilometres away, I would stay for two or three days each trip. There was not a lot I could do during the construction phase, so I decided to use my time wisely by visiting local professional referrers and local business operators (coffee shops, florists, shoe stores, etc.) I also talked with each tradesperson about the new business. Creating The Buzz Without knowi
