Do you know who you are? It's a question we all ask at some point in life. Moses had some choices to make in life. Remain living with a fake ID and have fame and fortune or acknowledge and live his true identity. Many of us have used false identity in our attempts to fit in or avoid discrimination. The problem with fake id is that you are constantly in a state of stress and worry trying to be someone else. Authentic living-being true to who we were created to be removes the worry of trying to measure up, and places us right in the heart of God's plan for our lives. Let the creator and curator help you release the real you and live a life blessed with purpose. The word is "Awareness" We looked at awareness of the presence of God in our life. We explored becoming more aware of others. This week we look internally and become more aware of ourselves. Look with us as we see scripture catch up with modern psychology as it relates to "self-awareness" and taking every thought captive. Just as we feed our body daily, our inner life should be fed daily as well. We read in Scripture where we are to care for one another. Bear each others burdens. How can we do this if we are not aware of others. We get so caught up on our smart devices that many times we lose the human touch. Being aware of the presence of God produces fruit that says look to your neighbour (fellow human being) as well. But are we aware of the presence of God in our every day experiences and troubles?Do we sometimes feel like God is far away? All human beings experience a sense of insecurity from time to time. These insecurities build over time. They may start as a small crack in our identity through rejection or criticism or the way we compare our life to others. Sometimes it's a traumatic event.Ignoring insecurities only fuels insecurity. But when we look insecurity in the face, bring it out into the open...now we are ready to walk the road back to a sense of security. Do you ever wrestle with God on issues in or about your life? Sometimes we wrestle in life to find our identity, we spend years trying to find validation from others when all along we discover we have been wrestling with God. The world which changes so rapidly attempts to define us in so many ways. God who is before all time has known us from the beginning.Our truest identity (which includes our same sex attraction or gender diversity) is found in being authentic, in celebrating the wonder of who we are in Christ. Our identity is found in the one who created us in the first place. Everything else flows from this position. When the world lets you down, look up and you will see the truest measure of your identity. Child of God-love, affirmed, valued, and truly unique on the inside and the outside. Many times our core identity is based on the culture of the day. Traditional culture...your work or marital status, what you excel at doing-your achievements. Modern culture...I'm self made, I make my own way.But there is a third way...to understand that as believers in Christ the core identity through which everything else flow is this..I am loved, I am significant, I am valued, I am affirmed, I am enough regardless of everything else in my life. Our core identity in Christ means I no longer have to achieve this or be that but rather I allow who I am in Christ to inform all the other aspects of my life. No more self conciseness, no more completion. Just the real me-unique and wonderful, made in the image of my God. Pentecost was more than just an "all the sudden" show of power-it had been planned long ago. Pentecost is God's love for us poured out with the kind of power we need to help us navigate a chaotic world. It's God's love on leaven (yeast).Jesus warns us to beware of the yeast of the Pharisees who thought they knew better than Jesus with their man-made traditions. But the good news of Jesus (the first fruits of God) must be based on the truth of God's word. Therefore rely on the Spirit to guide you into all truth and spread this good news to the ends of the world. Today we celebrated Mothers Day in its various forms. We then looked at the prophesies that speak to the inclusive love of God for all people. We looked at how from the fall God's plan to redeem us has been playing out. It may not always look like it but God is working. Jesus gave us a model for prayer in the Lord's Prayer. But Jesus also shows us a model of prayer not only for ourselves but for others. Intercession is where prayer comes full circle. Like Jesus we connect with God in prayer for our needs and direction in life. But we then also connect with others and pray for their needs.Intercession (paga) prayer is where we go to God on behalf of someone else. When we think about the relational aspects of prayer, another aspect comes to the surface. Prayer is a matter of the heart. All close relationships come about because we care about the other person. Understanding the goodness of God then, we come to God in reverence, with thanksgiving, and trusting that God cares and will respond to our prayer.When we understand how much God loves us, and we come to God with our whole heart, we can rest assured that help is on the way when we pray. On Palm Sunday we celebrate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. This would be the final week of Jesus life before His crucifixion. He is paving the way for our salvation but before He goes He has a few things to say.
