The book of Proverbs has much to say about the work that we perform. There is wisdom to apply to every aspect of our work whether paid work, volunteer work, or work raising a family. Our words have the power to build up or destroy. The saying sticks and stones can break my bones but names will never hurt me is completely not true. Broken bones heal but words can last a lifetime. We have seen a big shift today in the area of fake news. Fake news is big business. Does truth still hold value? If what we value is the driving force in the way we interact in the world then we should reflect on and consider what we believe, what is true?Jesus Christ has something to say about truth which will change the trajectory of your life depending on whether you view it as fake news or good news......we get to choose, the ultimate truth teller who loves and builds us up, or the parent of all lies who tears us down. We all have areas of our lives that hold us captive from time to time. Many times it's our own self condemnation that keeps us in bondage. Jesus came to set the captives free. What is holding you? What do you need to be released from? We are not talking about a new year resolution. We are talking about a revelation of the Son of God in whom there is no condemnation but rather resurrection power and freedom. When we say that we are the church and want to represent Jesus, what should that look like today? In order to be authentic as a church we need to see the model that Jesus left for us. We can't say we are the church and then act contrary to the way we see Jesus model the church. We are not perfect but we do have a perfect model to help us. The past few years have been rough ones. Sometimes we wonder, where is God in all the chaos and confusion. Jesus knew something that would help us all if we understood it fully.....Jesus understood the true power of love. Love is more than just some warm fuzzy feeling. Love moves mountains, love heals, covers our sins and conquers our fears. Love never fails. Love is what sent Jesus to the cross to die for each of us. There is power when we choose love. Each one of us have the potential to impact many others either for good or not so good. Our stories, our service, our care or lack thereof reaches far wider than we could ever imagine. When it comes to sharing what Jesus has done for us, and through us, there is a ripple effect that happens in the hearts of the hearers. Let's spur each other on to share our encounters with Jesus...to allow ourselves to be open and relatable to a world that might need to make a similar journey with Jesus. We all receive invitations on a regular basis. Weddings, dinners, and even and invite to be friends on Facebook. But no invitation is more meaningful than an invitation to connect with Jesus. A simple "come and see for yourself". Andrew invited his brother Simon (Peter). Philip invited his friend Nathaniel. All of their lives became much brighter, more hopeful because they had encountered Jesus Christ. Do we believe that Jesus changes our lives? Are we aware that God wants to use us to invite others to meet Jesus? Are we willing to share this good news with those we love? Let's discuss what is needed. When God creates the opportunity to share our faith with someone, will we be ready? The Rainbow community has been told that God disapproves of our same sex attraction and/or gender diversity. We know this is not correct. We have experienced God's love and studied God's Word on this issue. We have recognised that while our gender identity or sexuality are not a sin....we still sin. We need constant connection with our God in a world filled with chaos. We know this....are we willing to share this good news? Everything we do to honour God is worship. When we worship through reading the word, meeting together, giving and sharing we honour God. When our life is worship-full we can stand firm when the storms of life come. The world sees our faith during these times and becomes hopeful that what is inside each believer can live inside them as well. His name is Jesus and He stands ready to welcome one and all. Find a firm foundation for your life through Christ-when you do the natural outflow will be worship. Now more than ever LGBTIQ and Ally voices need to be heard. The world will be arguing scripture until Jesus returns but no one can argue your experiences with Christ.
