Legion Season 2 Episode 9 Breakdown "Chapter 17" FX TV
30/05/2018 Duração: 20minOn Legion this week, it's another one of these sidetrack episodes everyone loves so much. As I've recapped these I keep fighting to remember all the stuff that's happened this season. It's like when you try to tell someone about your dream, and the events don't really seem to relate to each other at all, so you can't remember how they were supposed to fit together. Given that we've had episodes focused on Melanie Bird, Sydney, and Amy, I expect we'll have an all Lenny episode at some point too. To be fair Melanie's dilemma does have a certain amount of pathos to it. She's facing the fact that she's essentially thrown her whole life away on a man that maybe doesn't care THAT much about her and she's diving head first into one doozy of a mid life crisis. I want to see what these seeds grow into, but I'm no longer certain it will make any kind of sense. || More Human Echoes stuff: http://humanechoes.com || Become a member for BONUS PODCASTS: http://bit.ly/1NkSWnQ || Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HumanEchoes B

Legion Season 2 Episode 8 Breakdown "Chapter 16" Marvel FX TV Recap
23/05/2018 Duração: 34minPATREON! It's a thing we have! https://www.patreon.com/HumanEchoes Legion this week gets back on the main plot thread (if there is such a thing in this show) and sees our heroes and villains closing in on Farouk's body. Does anyone else think it's really suspicious that David and Farouk both get the location of the body at exactly the same time? There's a lot of walking around in the desert, Syd gets a cool entrance, Lenny gets a cool exit, and Melanie Bird is back! What does it all mean? Does it mean ANYTHING? Heck if I know. But I'll try to make sense of it with the rest of you villains. || More Human Echoes stuff: http://humanechoes.com || Become a member for BONUS PODCASTS: http://bit.ly/1NkSWnQ || Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HumanEchoes Bad Ideas Podcast on iTunes: http://apple.co/2yrDfyx Buy some T-shirts: http://bit.ly/1NetNNP Follow us on Mixer for all of our live streams:: https://Mixer.com/HumanEchoes Listen to Bad Ideas: https://youtu.be/8RDb6jlY_4A Watch Dirt Block: https://youtu.be/MfdHU-E_N

Westworld Season 2 Episode 5 Breakdown "Akane No Mai" HBO TV Recap
22/05/2018 Duração: 33minPATREON! We have one: https://patreon.com/HumanEchoes This week on Westworld we got back to Delores, and whoo boy is that girl going DARK. We also got back to Maeve who is going in the other direction, as she expresses more empathy for the hosts around her even as she tries to complete a very personal quest to retrieve her daughter. || More Human Echoes stuff: http://humanechoes.com || Become a member for BONUS PODCASTS: http://bit.ly/1NkSWnQ || Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HumanEchoes Bad Ideas Podcast on iTunes: http://apple.co/2yrDfyx Buy some T-shirts: http://bit.ly/1NetNNP Follow us on Mixer for all of our live streams:: https://Mixer.com/HumanEchoes Listen to Bad Ideas: https://youtu.be/8RDb6jlY_4A Watch Dirt Block: https://youtu.be/MfdHU-E_N70 Watch Dwarf Fortress: https://youtu.be/H2KR9Ny4iy8 You can also follow the Human Echoes Peeps on Twitter! @HumanEchoes @albert_berg

Legion Season 2 Episode 7 Breakdown | "Chapter 15" Recap and Review
16/05/2018 Duração: 35minPatreon! We've got one! https://www.patreon.com/HumanEchoes Legion this week felt like a bit of a letdown for me personally. The delusion was introduced so slowly and methodically through the course of the season that to have it killed off so quickly AND not have anything to do with the main plot (as far as we can tell at the moment) feels like a misstep. Farouk continues to be the show's bright spot, both in how he is played and how he is written. His weird purple smoke car time machine was a really cool piece of set design and I'm interested to see how his interactions with future Syd go forward. Maybe he kills off David and then goes wandering the wasteland of the future with Syd and they antiheroically fight monsters or something. That would be a good season three. Either that or let David do literally ANYTHING. No, squishing innocent ants with his mind does not count. || More Human Echoes stuff: http://humanechoes.com || Become a member for BONUS PODCASTS: http://bit.ly/1NkSWnQ || Bad Ideas Podcast on iT

Westworld Recap Season 2 Episode 4: "The Riddle of the Sphinx"
14/05/2018 Duração: 31minWestworld this week had some huge reveals and great character moments. The title "Riddle of the Sphinx" refers to the riddle posed to Oedipus Rex, "What goes on fours in the morning, on twos in the afternoon and on threes at night?" The answer is of course, Man, who crawls, then walks, and finally uses a cane. There's the obvious implication that we're different people at different points in time (something the process of immortalizing people as robots ignores) but also the riddle's link with Oedipus implies at the very least, a trouble relationship between parents and their children (and possibly creations and their creators) which is played out most explicitly by the Man in Black's turn. We didn't get any of Dolores's or Maeve's plots, but I didn't really miss them. This was exactly what I want from Westworld. Weird ideas, twisty timelines, and questions about the fabric of reality.

Legion Season 2 Episode 6 Recap and Review "Chapter 14" FX Marvel TV
09/05/2018 Duração: 27minThis week's episode of Legion doesn't do anything to movie the story forward, but it digs into the life of David Haller in other possible timelines. But in a sense this isn't David's episode so much as it's Amy's. Amy is "dead" now, so it feels MAYBE like it's too late coming, but it's a fascinating way to approach that storytelling need. I'm curious if we'll see more interference from the other timelines, but at the very least, this is confirmation that changing which decision David makes wont "kill" future Syd.

Westworld Season 2 Episode 3 "Virtu e Fortuna" Recap and Review HBO TV Breakdown
07/05/2018 Duração: 28minWestworld this week takes us to more parks! Considering we saw the outside world for the first time last week, I'm expecting to be blasting off into space on a rocket crewed by dinosaurs by the end of the season. Dolores continues to be something of an enigma, making some decisions that severely undercut her odds of reaching Glory. Why are some robot people unworthy of Glory? Meanwhile Bernard finds Peter Abernathy but then he loses him, but then he finds him again, but then he loses him again. And while all THAT is happening, Maeve is still marching through Westworld, picking up followers like a snowball rolling downhill. || More Human Echoes stuff: http://humanechoes.com || Become a member for BONUS PODCASTS: http://bit.ly/1NkSWnQ || Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HumanEchoes Bad Ideas Podcast on iTunes: http://apple.co/2yrDfyx Buy some T-shirts: http://bit.ly/1NetNNP Follow us on Mixer for all of our live streams:: https://Mixer.com/HumanEchoes Listen to Bad Ideas: https://youtu.be/8RDb6jlY_4A Watch Dirt

Legion Season 2 Episode 5 Breakdown, Recap and Review "Chapter 13" FX Marvel Television
02/05/2018 Duração: 26minThis week on Legion we're getting more of Lenny, and it seems like the characters in the show have exactly the same questions we do as viewers. Where did she get that body? Is she independent or a puppet of Farouk? What is her end goal? Meanwhile (apparently) Farouk and Oliver are on the quest for a body. It's just not the body we think it is. The time trick we see in this episode is one Westworld pulled for an entire season, but it really works here, and keeps us guessing what Farouk is up to now. If there even is such a thing as "now"....

Westworld Season 2 Episode 2 Recap and Review "Reunion" HBO TV Breakdown
30/04/2018 Duração: 36minWestworld this week didn't have too much to surprise in the modern day setting. Dolores continues to try to overthrow everything and for that she needs an army. The Man in Black tries to win Robert Ford's game....and for that he needs an army. The most interesting way to go with this would be for Dolores and the Man in Black to meet up, but for whatever reason that didn't happen. In the flashbacks is where things got interesting. We see Dolores's beginning steps with Abernathy, but it's clear this version of Delores is somewhat lacking. He conversational tape starts to loop rather quickly, and its enough to make you wonder exactly what Abernathy sees in her. Later William pitches the park to Daddy Delos, and we get more inklings of the data mining scheme that Delos had hatched to make the park profitable.

Legion Season 2 Episode 4 Recap and Review "Chapter 12" FX Marvel TV Breakdown
25/04/2018 Duração: 25minThis week on Legion the show takes a break to explore Sydney's past as David stumbles through her maze trying to understand the woman he loves. It's interesting to see David so clueless about this woman. It's an indictment of his character in a way, but also the show itself for exploring so little of her backstory up until now. I had forgotten Syd mentioned the incident with her mom's boyfriend before so seeing it play out on the screen came out of nowhere for me, and it really felt uncomfortable to watch. I wasn't sure who I should feel the worst for. Of course at the end we get the return of Lenny and I have no idea how that works, but if you think about it Syd's power sets up the potential for bodies to be moved and created from action in the mental space so maybe that's not so far fetched in this universe. Regardless I'm pumped to see what Lenny will get up to now that she's back.

Westworld Season 2 Episode 1 "Journey Into Night" Recap and Review HBO TV
23/04/2018 Duração: 35minWestworld is back! I definitely didn't binge all ten episodes of the previous season over the weekend in a Low Carb Monster infused stupor to get ready for the new season. YOU did that. This week's episode was a pretty strong season opener, giving us an idea of where everything stands and what everyone is after. There's more timey whimey goodness happening this time around with Bernard's present and future selves dealing with different problems. I don't know exactly what Dolores wants, but I think partly that's because SHE doesn't know for sure what she wants. Maeve on the other hand knows EXACTLY what she wants, and it's fun to see her wheeling and dealing her way through the underworld of Westworld. Lots more to see in the coming weeks. Can't wait to see what wonders the park has in store for us this season.

Krypton Episode 5 Recap and Review "The House of Zod" Season 1 DC Syfy TV Show
19/04/2018 Duração: 31minKrypton has jumped the time shark for me. Wait, not, that sounds awesome. How did jumping over sharks become slang for "that's when it got dumb"? Also, someone needs to make a time sharks movie, like NOW. Anyhoo what I'm trying to say is, this episode, despite some bright spots has pretty much killed off my hopes that the show might take a turn for the better. It is what it is, and that's all it's going to be. If you like that, great! If you don't (and I don't) there's no point clinging on hoping it'll be different. I believe the biggest failings of this show are in the writing. We've known DC was planning a Krypton show since just after Man of Steel was released, and yet so much of this plot feels thrown together at the last second. Good stories take time to write, and while running a writer's room for a year isn't free, that kind of commitment to story can give you a show that stands the test of time. I think casting Cameron Cuffe as the lead was a mistake as well. I don't buy him in this roll, and on top o

Legion Season 2 Episode 3 Recap and Review "Chapter 11" Marvel FX TV
18/04/2018 Duração: 35minLegion is back with more mind bending wonderful weirdness! This week we get an overview of the nocebo effect and the contagious nature of mental defects. Now that David and Farouk are working together we have a new opponent to deal with, the Mi Go Monk from the end of the previous episode. He's plays a definite Pied Piper role in this episode, which serves as a reminder that Division 3 is literally employing child soldiers, something that none of the "good" guys seem to have much of a problem with. Adding to the moral muddy waters, Farouk tries to convince David he's not the evil boogey man he's made out to be, and the Mi Go Monk justifies his infecting of people with the chattering teeth disorder. The other interesting thing we got to see was the inside of the mazes which turn out to represent different character's core fantasies. I assume if we get to see inside Carrie's maze it'll be nothing but fights with robot ninjas.

Krypton Episode 4 Recap and Review "The Word of Rao" Season 1 Syfy DC TV
12/04/2018 Duração: 28minI keep hoping Krypton will really hit its stride or barring that fall completely on it's face. Instead it just keeps stumbling forward, showing just enough competence to keep me hopeful, but never living up to its potential. This week sees Lyta Zod going on trial for disobeying orders; but she's found not guilty; but she's put in jail because someone made up evidence, even though the charges against her initially were pretty hard to refute; BUT the reason they fabricated the evidence made no sense. Fortunately we have a crazy new character this episode who may or may not be a Zod, but who definitely knows about Braniac and is willing to infiltrate and then double cross a terrorist organization to deal with the threat. WHY is this guy not the star of the show again? Oh, right, Superman.

Legion "Chapter 10" Recap and Review Season 2 Episode 2 Marvel FX TV Show
11/04/2018 Duração: 40minFor me this is the episode where this season of Legion really got GOOD. Episode one felt like it spent a lot of time catching us up on what is going on, but here we finally get to dig into the meat of who these characters are and what they're going to be trying to achieve this season. I noticed this week that the intercom warning people about symptoms of a Shadow King infection was missing. I have no idea what that means, but in this show everything seems to mean SOMETHING. This week David and Syd won me over yet again as a couple. The level of trust between them is so strong, and the way future Syd reacted to seeing David makes me more sure than ever that these two have a romance for the ages. Meanwhile Farouk and Lenny have almost exactly the opposite relationship. Farouk doesn't tell Lenny anything, and only seems to be using her, but there is a hint that in his mind at least he's protecting her from something. That relationship is the one I'm most excited to see evolve. Lenny is more and more likely to st

Krypton Episode 3 Review and Recap | "The Rankless Initiative" Season 1 Syfy TV
05/04/2018 Duração: 29minKrypton got it's feet back under it a little bit this week. The writing in this episode was much better than last week, although there are still some problems. I really enjoyed the paralell between Lyta Zod trying to protect the rankless even though they had Black Zero in their midst and Seg trying to save Rhom even though she was infected with Braniac's virus. Of course the larger question of what in the world is going on with the time travel and why Brainiac doesn't know about Krypton already if he came back to stop Superman from being born is starting to loom large over this whole affair.

Legion Season 2 Episode 1 Review and Recap : "Chapter 9" FX Marvel Show
04/04/2018 Duração: 32minLegion is back! And THIS time it's weird. I got way too bent out of shape last season assuming that everything could be a dream, so this time around, I'm going to say that the stuff at Division 3 is at least mostly real. The waffle river? Real. The psychic tank filled with corn syrup and strawberry extract? Real. The GENERAL WITH A FREAKING BASKET ON HIS HEAD THAT SPEAKS THROUGH AUTOTUNED FREAKY PEOPLE? TOTALLY REAL! What am I doing? What is Noah Hawley doing to me with this show?

Krypton Episode 2 Review and Recap | Season 1 "The House of El" Syfy TV
29/03/2018 Duração: 23minWell, Krypton, that didn't take long did it? As you'll know if you listen to the episode, I had some...issues here. It's not just that the plot is spinning its wheels, but that it's undercutting its own tension. This is something I'm hyper vigilant about at the moment because I just binged the entirety of 372 Page We'll Never Get Back, a podcast about the problems with Ernest Cline's books Ready Player One, and Armada, and one of the consistent things that keeps popping up, is the introduction and IMMEDIATE resolution of potential conflict or tension. Exposition is also on hand in large quantities here. As you know Bob, some exposition is necessary to storytelling, but this is neither well written nor particularly well delivered.

Krypton Episode 1 Review and Recap | Season 1 Pilot Syfy TV
22/03/2018 Duração: 36minSUPERMAN! Guys, this Krypton show is about Superman! They're trying to hide it but if you follow the hidden clues the show runners have left in their secret AR campaign which you can reach by following a link on the Mary Kay website it's a clear as DAY. Okay, so we're being a little silly, but outside of the "hit you over the head with the Superman connection" stuff, this first episode is pretty good. We've seen distopian scifi before, but this is done pretty well, and the characters seem pretty compelling. One thing I wonder about is the fact that they've shoehorned time travel into this show to make it link up with the Superman we all know (does that mean Krypton is taking place in the 1800's?) they don't seem to be actually doing anything interesting with the Time Travel element yet. Obviously there's a lot of show left to see, so maybe we'll get more of Adam Strange's strangeness, but it'd be a shame if they just leave the existence of MULTIPLE time travelers as just a gimmick.
