 Back to the Movies returns to kick off the summer blockbuster season with a review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!  Starlord, Gamora, Rocket and the rest of the gang are all back to deliver the sequel we never dreamed we'd see before the release of the first film. It's bigger, features even more transgressive humor and co-stars none other than Snake Plisken himself, Kurt Russel. The sequel is almost too popular to fail, but does it stack up to the surprise of the first film?To answer the question, I'm joined by recurring guest host Laron Chapman to review Guardians of the Galaxy and discuss our current feelings on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the state of superhero films. In this week's Back to the Movies, we're taking a trip to suburban america to learn the about the horrors of being black in America. In this week's episode, Alex is taking another week off which leaves Caleb to his own devices in his talk with recurring guest host Laron Chapman. Laron Chapman is the writer/director of an upcoming film, You People. Get Out is writer/director Jordan Peele of Key and Peele's directorial debut about a black man who goes home to meet his white girlfriend's family. This week's Back to the Movies brings us back to another double feature review leading into the big weekend before the Valentine's Day holiday. The day of romance almost always offers a couple of different choices and this year we're being treated to The Lego Batman Movie and John Wick Chapter 2. Caleb and Alex have high spirited conversations on both films, starting with The Lego Batman Movie. The Lego Movie spinoff put Will Arnett's Batman front in center in his mission to defend Gotham from the clutches of the Joker. Night Shyamalan's recent box office hit, Split. We start the show off by tackling the critically acclaimed Australian drama, Lion. The film stars Dev Patel as Saroo Breirley, a man who was seperated from his family in India as a boy and was eventually adopted by Australian parents. 25 years after being separated, Saroo sets out to find his hometown in hopes that he can reunite with his mother and brother. The film spends a great deal of time reflecting on Saroo's struggle to find synthesis between his heritage and more privileged upbringing in a well to do Australian family. With so much at stake, it's hard to believe the whole film revolves around a guy surfing through google maps. It's a nominated film, but the question remains--can the film deliver a compelling character piece?In

The film has received almost universal acclaim and gained pretty notable attention from the academy. It tells the coming of age story of a gay black man growing up in Miami.
