  • Hashimoto's Diagnosis, Do You Need Synthroid?

    You may not realize it but... No, not all individuals diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis require Synthroid (levothyroxine) or other thyroid medication, but unfortunately, this information isn't readily shared with you. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder, all autoimmune disorders are inflammatory in nature.  In Hashimoto's inflammation causes the immune system to attack the thyroid gland, leading to inflammation and damage. This may cause a decrease in thyroid hormone production, leading to hypothyroidism but the key here is may.  There is definitely inflammation being triggered and further evaluation should be considered to find the cause of the inflammation! It's the chronic inflammation that causes the destruction of the thyroid gland, which therefore over time affects the thyroid's ability to produce T4 and T3 the thyroid hormones. In some cases, Hashimoto's thyroiditis may not cause significant thyroid hormone deficiency, and the patient may not experience any symptoms. In suc
