During the ministry of Jesus we sometimes hear him asking what might seem like an odd question before he heals a person. We hear him ask questions like....Do you want to get well? Do you believe I can heal you? What do you want me to do for you? These questions can sometimes frustrate us....of course we want to we well Jesus. But what we discover is not a test of our faith but rather an invitation from Jesus to a person who is hurting....the question is in your situation who am I to you. Your healer? Your Saviour? Jesus invites us to go deep in our relationship with him and to see that in Christ, our connection with God intact, we have access to all we need. Are we willing to invest in our relationship with Christ? So much of our time is spent focused on the negative things in life. These difficulties can sometimes make joy seem like a fairy tale. The Bible tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. When we give up on joy we give away our strength to the enemy who is bent on stealing our life, killing our dreams and destroying our future. When we stay connected to Christ His joy becomes our joy and our strength. We all at some point need help and healing in areas of our life. Being Christian doesn't mean we don't experience hardship, and it certainly doesn't mean we should cover up the fact that we need help. Rather we gather our tribe (church) and we pray together and we ask God to bring healing and health to our life. We use the earthy resources available to us as well. Jesus died for our salvation but also for our healing. The live we now have in Christ gives us liberty from the law. But what should we do with that liberty? As believers in Jesus Christ his Spirit now live inside us and has given us all the resources to live a life of love, liberty and abundance. We get to choose-our old nature and the newness of life we can live as the Spirit guides our life. Paul says this...the only thing that matters is not the law, but faith lived out through love. The book of Galatians is an important book for same sex attracted and gender diverse persons (LGBTIQ). In this letter Paul is angry because the Jewish people are still trying to achieve salvation through the law and telling the Gentiles that they must follow the Mosaic law. The problem with this Paul explains is that our salvation was never based on the law but rather it was based on a promise God made to Abraham. God told Abraham that all nations would be blessed through him. Every believer in Jesus Christ is now part of Abraham's family and more importantly a "Child of the Promise. Let's listen in and discover our heritage and inheritance-in Christ. They hold a council in Jerusalem which decides that this is an unnecessary burden to put on the Gentiles. How many meetings have been held related to the rainbow community. The leaders ask: what should we do with these believers. Our answer is the same as Paul's. There is only one Gospel (good news) it is the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ; not adherence to the law. Sometimes we question, was that God speaking or was it just my conscience? The answer could be both. When Holy Spirit takes up residence in us the work of transforming our life happens from the inside out. The more we connect with God the more transformed our conscience becomes. God speaks to us and our conscience (typically our moral compass) is transformed by Gods presence within us. This is where many will say well, sure there are some great teachers and preachers and podcasts on faith. This also would be correct. The Disciples were sent out to share the Word of God with others. But something very significant opens up for us when we turn our attention to the word “word” because when we do we don’t just hear about God; we hear from God! Check it out!

This past week was Transgender Awareness Week. A perfect time to look at how much love is lacking for people who may seem different to others. Rather than embracing people with love, many times a fear of what we don't understand will cause unloving acts, sometimes horrible acts. How do we overcome hate with love...we must die to hate or be reborn in love and then learn to live in our new nature. We are all going through a transition.All through Scripture we see where God rescues us; mostly from ourselves. But the true rescue came when one person laid down their life for ours. A perfect seed whose very nature is love died so that we who believe can be reborn of incorruptible seed. Learning to love all of God's creation as beautiful and diverse and valuable. In 2 Timothy we hear the heart of Paul toward his protege Timothy. Paul tells Timothy that he remembers the struggles Timothy has faced but that he also sees Timothy's resolve to not give up. He reminds Timothy of his heritage and encourages him to stir up his gifts and to take hold of the power, love and self-control given to him by God. We all have gifts that God has given to us to share the Gospel which is great news for all who believe.
