Blacks, Jews and Social Justice: An Inside Look into Seth Limmer, an Activist Rabbi!
01/10/2015 Duração: 55minIn 1965 three civil rights marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama were met by violence including two deaths. Public outrage helped fuel passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Since then we’ve seen a dramatic erosion to voting rights and an explosion of anger about the disproportionate use of police violence against Blacks. To commemorate earlier marches and to highlight continued injustice, the NAACP organized a 1000-mile march this summer from Selma to DC. This time there was support from all kinds of groups. In the mix was a Torah, the holy book of the Jews, which was carried the whole march by rabbis, Jews and non-Jews alike. Who are Reform Jews, why did they bring the Torah and what spurs their passion? Hear an interview with Rabbi Seth Limmer, who sparked Reform rabbis to march and who originated the idea of carrying the Torah. Who is he, what else are Reform Jews doing and why? Also watch Blacks, Jews & Justice, our video about Seth on Inner Revolutionary TV, VoiceAmerica.TV.

The Other Side of Afghan Women: Meet Dr. Sakena Yacoobi and See Courage in Action!
06/08/2015 Duração: 57minHonored for her courage and vision, Dr. Sakena Yacoobi is human like us, yet has had to face daunting conditions, which continue to the present day. In 1990, Sakena returned from the US to establish education, health and training programs in the Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan. In 1995 she founded the Afghan Institute of Learning to continue her work. But when the Taliban took power, they devastated women’s rights, including access to education. Instead of crumbling, Sakena worked with communities to establish home schools. The resulting years have seen an astounding litany of accomplishments including the rebuilding of Afghan society. How has she done it? How did her organization found 80 secret schools under the Taliban at the risk of death? And what about today? Although no longer in control of the national government, the Taliban and repressive attitudes toward women still have a hold. What’s happening now? We often see the anguish of Afghan women. Tune in and see the courage.

Is the Catholic Church Going through an Inner Revolution? Meet Sister Simone Campbell and See for Yourself!
30/06/2015 Duração: 55minIn 2012 the Vatican cracked down on American nuns for challenging the hierarchy and focusing on social services and equality, rather than on abortion. Guilty as charged! Our guest Sister Simone Campbell and her organization NETWORK are Catholic sisters committed to awakening social conscience and lobbying for change. The Vatican specifically cited NETWORK, so Simone seized the opportunity to launch a series of tours called the Nuns on the Bus, attracting even more attention to the many social needs American nuns have been addressing. When Pope Francis was elected in 2013, he called on Christians to become revolutionaries caring for the poor and now he’s confronting climate change and our responsibility for it. He also met with representatives of America’s nuns and expressed his appreciation. Sounds like an Inner Revolution! Now Simone and two other nuns are the subject of a new documentary called Radical Grace. An activist touched by spirit, she’s is not alone. Tune in and learn more!

Paris, Rome, and Iowa? The Link is John Davis, Who Shares About the Climate and Our Future!
23/06/2015 Duração: 58minA recent U.N. poll shows that 90% of the world’s citizens want governments to lead us toward zero emissions to combat climate change. That’s rich, poor, everybody. The U.N. Conference on Climate is happening this December, and the future is in their hands. With so much at stake, people everywhere are mobilizing to get governments to act. On June 18, the Pope issued an encyclical saying that human-made climate change is fact (the Pope is a trained scientist) and that confronting it is a moral imperative. Yet in our own nation, the Chairman of the Senate Environment Committee, Inhofe (R-OK), says climate change is a hoax or doesn’t matter. So, Paris – the climate conference in December; Italy – the Pope; and Iowa? That’s where John Davis comes in. John is an organizer for the Climate Reality Project in Iowa, and he’s a grandfather who cares. He can help us understand the Pope’s encyclical, and he can share with us what we can do to get our government to listen and act. Tune in! Call in!

Dare to Heal: It's a Revolutionary Act!
16/06/2015 Duração: 56minWe’ve all had traumas and negative programming that damaged us in one or many ways. When we heal, we hope everyone will support us, but that’s not always the case. If you’re the only sober member of an alcoholic family, your sobriety will force others to look at their own drinking. If you stop conforming to painful and foolish conventions, such as wearing high heels, friends will have to look at what they’re doing and why. If you grow up in a spiritual community, peers might feel threatened when YOU question sacred cows. And if you change to a healthier diet, how do those around you justify that last cupcake? Have YOU dared to heal and change, even in the face of disapproval or worse? Dared to heal enough to take unpopular stands? Dared to heal enough to stand up to your OWN opinions and change them when YOU’RE wrong? Healing can be a revolutionary act, threatening your self-image, relationships or sense of safety. Healing is part of the Inner Revolution. Join us and call in to share!

Blending Spirituality and Activism: The Message and Journey of James O'Dea, Renowned Conscious Activist
09/06/2015 Duração: 57minAs children, many of us felt called to DO something to help our world. Some became dedicated activists. But many of us became discouraged or burnt out from the anguish and the anger of the movement itself. Then some of us found a new way. James is joining host Beth Green to talk about his latest book The Conscious Activist, where he describes his own journey from mysticism, to outrage, to a mature blending of his spirituality and his commitment to help. James is calling us to work on ourselves and face the suffering of the world and to learn to act from the insight gained from the depths of compassion. The Inner Revolution is the movement of people to change the world from the inside out. Meet James O’Dea, who is doing just that and lighting the way for others to do the same. Tune in, call in.

02/06/2015 Duração: 55minA guy steps on your foot. Ouch! Are you feeling his pain or just yours? Revolutionizing Relationships: Helping Each Other in Healthy Ways!
26/05/2015 Duração: 56minWe all need help, and most of us know that. But how can we help each other without giving ourselves away? On this episode of InsideOut, we’re going to ask you to think about how you can help another person or group without looking for praise or selling yourself out. It could be in a big way, a small way, or in a way that seems small but is really impactful. Join us for a stimulating conversation where we ask ourselves who we can help and HOW. And, by the way, we at InsideOut are always thinking about how we can help you. Maybe you’ll come up with some ideas about how you can help us, too! Tune in, call in, and act. Learning to give in the right ways could revolutionize your life and our world. For more discussion, join the post-show forum. Link on right side of host page.

Telling the Heavens: We Have Too Much Fear and Too Much Pain!
19/05/2015 Duração: 55minLooking at ourselves and our world, we see both aggression and passivity, and both can be traced to fear. What do we fear? Pain and the infinite forms that pain can take: Physical pain from illness, accidents, aging, childbirth and violence. Emotional pain from being squelched, abandoned or shamed. Our own pain AND the pain of others, including other animals and maybe even the plant life going through drought and death. Pain is an epidemic in our world, and that epidemic then causes another epidemic, fear: fear of existence, fear of what could happen, fear of what is happening, fear of what could happen again, fear of God.The more we feel pain, the more we feel fear, and the more we need to find ways to cope. But our coping mechanisms often create more pain and more fear. We withdraw, deny, dominate, manipulate, hide, sell ourselves out or scare others away. Then we're alone. What can we do? Stop denying, stop pretending the Creator is perfect, get real and look for answers. Join us!
