This year the Draft is being held in Philadelphia, and the city’s Eagles fans are beyond excited for this event. The Philadelphia Eagles 2016-2017 season is over, and we sit down and go over how the season transpired. From trading starting quarterback Sam Bradford and starting rookie Carson Wentz, to the first three wins of the season, to the struggles of our wide receivers, the suspension of Lane Johnson, to finishing up the season with two wins against the Giants and Cowboys. The Philadelphia Eagles end the season on that high note, beating the Dallas Cowboys 27-13. Some claimed that the game didn’t mean anything because the Eagles are not in the playoffs. But the Eagles beat another NFC East division rival, the second in as many weeks. They won another home game, the sixth on the season. Their rookie quarterback Carson Wentz gained more experience. They end the season with two wins to go into the offseason. And oh yeah, they beat the Cowboys. All in all, it was a fun way to end the season, and had much to build on in the off season. The Eagles end the 2016-2017 season with a record of 7-9 after starting 3-0, but our rookie QB more than impressed, and will be a great leader for many years to come. He is a player a team can be built around. That’s huge. This team appears to be only a few pieces shy of making the playoffs. And maybe not too long after that, the big game. The New York Giants drive on down the New Jersey Turnpike and enter The Linc expecting to clinch a playoff spot, but it isn’t to be had, as the Eagles defeated them 24-19 in front of a raucous Philadelphia crowd on Thursday night. On the playoff spot, the Giants defeat did allow the Dallas Cowboys to clinch the NFC East, but the Eagles were not going to allow Eli Manning and the rest of the Giants enter the playoffs through Philly. The Eagles Defense stepped up in a big way, intercepting Manning three times in the game, with one as a pick-six, and the other in the final 14 seconds of the game with the Giants offense driving and in the red zone. The Eagles Offense was able to just enough, only putting up two touchdowns (one through the air, and one on the ground), and less than 300 yards total offense. This was Lane Johnson’s first game back from his PED 10-game suspension, and his influence helped sustain yards and protect quarterback Carson Wentz. The Eagles travel from Philadelphia down to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in one of the last games of the year. A game that didn’t make much of a difference in the season, as the Eagles were just about eliminated from a playoff spot (but not entirely). The climax of the game easily was the end of the game where quarterback Carson Wentz drove the offense down the field, behind in the score, and scored a touchdown with only 40 seconds left on the clock. This brought the Eagles within one point, down 27-26. In a controversial call, coach Doug Pederson decided to go for the win on a 2-point conversion. The Wentz pass was batted down at the line of scrimmage, falling short of the intended receiver, and the Ravens players celebrated the win. There has been much conversation among fans and analysts as to whether the Birds kicked the extra point for the tie, or gone for the win with the conversion. The Washington Redskins come to Philly, and hand the Eagles a 27-22 loss. Several players left the game with injuries or cheap shots, and a few of those players are now on Injured Reserve. Overall it was not a bad or ugly loss for the Eagles, but it marked a point in yet another Divisional loss that pretty much seals this team’s season as a big loss. We discuss many aspects of where the team is at this point, and a little of our disappointments in the team’s place in the season. They are rebuilding, that is the case, and we’ve known that for a while now. And the opinions are definitely split on the team as a whole; whether they are just bad all around with a good quarterback, or whether there is a base with several gaps to fill. The Philadelphia Eagles execute their worst game of the season at the most inopportune time this week, losing to the Cincinnati Bengals 32-14. Eagles fans are angry and extremely disappointed with this loss, for very good reasons. Quarterback Carson Wentz played poorly, the Defense was horrible, the running game was practically non-existent, players were repeatedly undisciplined, play-calling was more than suspect, and even special teams had a few flubs. That’s led to many questions about what happened to the Eagles as the season has gone on, and rightfully so… how can a team that has performed well just start to crumble? Sure some of it falls on the coaches, but some of it also comes from talent. We all know the Eagles as a whole are better than they were last year. We also talked about how the 2016 season was going to be a rebuilding year, THEN the rookie quarterback is made the starter, so we did not expect much at all in the season. The home crowd at Lincoln Financial Field got our first loss of the season to the Green Bay Packers 27-13. It was the worst loss of the season as well, at 14 points. What that means is to date, the Eagles have hung with every team they lost to, and most of those losses were by less than a touchdown. Feel down about this loss, feel bad that the season is all but over, but Eagles fans, do not feel bad about how this season has set a standard for the organization moving forward. There is a lot of hope, even though we want that success now, not next year, or the year after that. We want that success now. But first the Eagles have to lose to the Packers, who played a better game against an Eagles team with several starters injured, and a struggling Offense with a rookie quarterback. December has hit, meaning not only colder temps, but it means we are quickly approaching the end of the season. The Seattle Seahawks host the Philadelphia Eagles on a rainy Sunday evening, and it does not turn out well for our boys in midnight green and silver. The Birds drop the game 26-15. We use the term “drop” because that is what the main highlight of the Eagles game and season has been… DROPS! The main scapegoat of the Seahawks loss this week was Nelson Agholor, who dropped a few passes, and also committed a bad penalty that negated a huge reception for a touchdown by Zach Ertz. That score would have given the Eagles a 1-point lead, but instead, they had to punt, and was the catalyst in the eventual demise by the Eagles. Very frustrating all around, when you are playing one of the best teams in the league, in their home. The Eagles hung with them from a distance, and there was a feeling for most of the game that there was still a shot, but Seattle did what they needed to do to keep the Eagles down. The Philadelphia Eagles win in an exciting home game against the Atlanta Falcons, 24-15. This is the fourth home win this season, where the Birds are undefeated. This week the Eagles fans were crazy loud, and unbelievably quiet when the Eagles Offense was on the field. Such an amazing and smart fan base. Love it. The Eagles run game was on fire this week, and Ryan Mathews was the star of that game, with 109 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. Overall the Eagles runners were all in play as it helped the Eagles struggling receivers, and Carson Wentz, in a huge way. It was an excellent game plan, and executed in a great way against a very good Falcons Defense. Speaking of Defense, the Eagles D did an excellent job keeping a Falcons Offense with plenty of weapons for QB Matt Ryan both off the field and out of the end zone, allowing just the one Falcons TD. This was yet another positive thing for our rookie QB, as he was able to help overcome a fourth quarter deficit and come back and win the game. Exciting a

Another road game, another NFC East rival, and another loss for the Eagles. This has become a real issue, and this loss to the New York Giants takes the Eagles to 4-4 on the season, and a dismal 0-3 in the Division. The main thing people have had an issue with in this loss is coach Doug Pederson’s two attempts at going for it on fourth down, when the Eagles were within field goal range for both. They failed on both attempts, and thus leaving six points on the field. Ultimately the Birds lost by five, so we see how those fourth downs affected us. The other side of that coin was that coach Pederson’s approach to the Offense was much more aggressive, and something Eagles fans have been wanting. We saw Carson Wentz going further down field with attempts, sometimes with great results, and other times with inaccurate passes (including two very early interceptions which allowed two quick scores by the Giants), or our receivers dropping passes. The latter has been an issue all season, and we are not seeing improvemen

The Philadelphia Eagles traveled down to Dallas to fight the Cowboys for first place in the NFC East. After some questionable play calling and dropped passes, the Eagles give up a ten point lead in the fourth quarter and end regulation in a tie. Unfortunately for the Eagles, overtime was all Cowboys, as they drove down the field and scored a touchdown to win the game, 29-23. It was most likely a very long trip home for the Eagles, but these are some of the mistakes we expected to make this season before it started, plus on paper the Cowboys were the superior team… and we still almost won the game. Overall another division loss hurts, but the Eagles fought hard, and if it wasn’t for some crucial dropped passes and another turnover on a fumble (this time by Wendell Smallwood), the outcome would have been different. After a very tough loss to the Redskins the week before, the undefeated Minnesota Vikings and former Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford come to Philadelphia. This game started slow and ugly at times, but ultimately, the Eagles Defense were all over Bradford all day, sacking him six times, causing two fumbles, and an interception. Bradford was hit many times in this game, and it really got into his head early, and often. The Eagles Defense was the star of the game, for sure, although there was a kickoff return for 98 yards for a TD from Josh Huff, and that also kind of shined. Eagles QB Carson Wentz struggled in this game, throwing for two interceptions on the day, but continued to mature in our eyes, having the continued confidence in some tough situations on the day, despite some fumbled snaps and miscues. He’s a rookie learning the NFL, one week at a time. The Eagles are also in the rumor mill this week with trade rumors involving Torrey Smith, as well as Alshon Jeffery. This one hurts more. The Eagles lose their second game, this one to NFC East rival Washington Redskins. The arguments before the season started that positional depth might be a factor as the season progresses and injuries become a factor seems to have been proven true. At least in the right tackle position vacated by the now-suspended Lane Johnson. Johnson’s replacement, rookie tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai (ok, let’s just go with Big V) struggled in his first start, and the Redskins took advantage of him, putting way more pressure on Carson Wentz than he was used to. Eagles also used three tight ends to help Big V at times, which resulted in a more limited offensive threat. The Birds were kept out of the end zone on offense, and the Eagles Defense allowed three scores by Skins QB Kirk Cousins. The Eagles did get two touchdowns in exciting style, the first on a kickoff return for a TD by Wendell Smallwood, then on the following Redskins series Malcolm Jenkins intercepted Cousins and ran it back 64 yards for an

The first loss of the season comes at the hands of the Detroit Lions, a Ryan Mathews fumble, a Carson Wentz interception (his first of the year), a flat Eagles Defense to start the game, and poor officiating. With all of that listed, we are not especially bummed about this loss. Disappointed, yes, but the loss does not taste that bad. The Eagles went in the hole quickly in the first quarter by two touchdowns, but adjusted, dug in, and came back and eventually took the lead in the fourth quarter. This was a huge test for both the rookie quarterback, and rookie head coach Doug Pederson, as they showed they could lead the Birds back. This is a positive thing moving forward as the Eagles have their first divisional game against the Washington Redskins this next week on the road, and then the games get much more challenging moving forward from there. This game was one they could have won. They didn’t. But it was yet another learning experience in a long road that us Eagles fans hope will lead us back to the playof

The battle of Pennsylvania occurred Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, and the ultimate outcome was Wentzylvania! The Pittsburgh Steelers had a very long ride home on the Wentzylvania Turnpike after being crushed by the Philadelphia Eagles 34-3. The Steelers came into Philly riding high in week three, considered by many to be one of the best teams in the NFL. The Eagles, on the other hand, had solid plans of their own under the remarkable coaching of Doug Pederson, who orchestrated and Offensive scheme that allowed rookie quarterback Carson Wentz to completely command how to attack the Steelers defense, and keep them completely guessing as to what was going to happen next. It was an amazing day, and solidifies this Eagles team as a contender in not only the NFC East, but now the NFC Conference as well. On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles only allowed the Steelers a field goal on the day. Think about that for a second. The mighty Ben Roethlisberger was denied a touchdown. The Eagles go to Chi-town, the windy city, Chicago for the national stage of Monday Night Football, to take on Jay Cutler and the Bears. It is the first big audience for Carson Wentz for his NFL rookie season. Wentz handled the Offense again like a veteran player, and not like a rookie at all. He was very exciting to see, again, with the confidence to find receivers, scramble when needed, and take the shot down the field. Philadelphia won 29-14, on the road, on Monday Night. Impressive even though Chicago is not one of the superpowers in the NFL at this point. The Eagles offensive line protected Wentz, and there was decent blocking for the run game as well. A few in-the-hands drops by receivers (I’m looking at you, Agholor) were really frustrating to see, but overall the scheme on Offense was a very good one, and kept the Bears Defense on their heels, with Wentz passing to seven different players. The new Philadelphia Eagles make their debut hosting the Cleveland Browns, with new head coach Doug Pederson, new coaching staff, several new players on all sides of the ball, and our new rookie quarterback, Carson Wentz. This is what many fans wanted to see, and none of us were disappointed. In interviews through the preseason, and analysts’ evaluations, it has been nothing but positive outlooks for Wentz developing into a quality quarterback. His debut was fantastic. Stats aside, he ran the Eagles Offense like a veteran would. He was confident, aware of his surroundings, and never seemed to panic. Yes, this was against the Cleveland Browns, one of the worst Defenses (and teams) that the Eagles will meet this season, and we have no delusions that the Eagles are a playoff team. This game was about our new coach, and new quarterback. This game was about getting Wentz out there in a stressed, real situation behind his Offensive Line. The NFL regular season starts on Thursday evening, and our Philadelphia Eagles play the first game on Sunday, in Lincoln Financial Field against the Cleveland Browns. The NFL Draft is approaching fast. In fact, it’s next week, starting Thursday, April 28th. We have once again secured the illustrious Tommy Lawlor (@lawlornfl) to talk Eagles Draft!
