If you have not heard -- and I am sure that you have -- NCAA women's swimming is awash in controversy (pun intended). An individual born genetically male is in the process of transitioning to being a female. Fievel loves me ... a lot. I am grateful for his love -- especially since I am still grieving the loss of my mom who died in June 2020. However, the reality of his love for me became real when the large bulldog in the adjacent backyard to us began to bark at us when I was taking Fievel for a walk a few days ago. My little chihuahua jumped in front of me and took up a defensive posture to protect me from the large bulldog! Now ... there was a fence between us and the bulldog and I actually would have had to protect Fievel if the bulldog had somehow reached us; however, I realized at that moment that Fievel truly loved me and saw it as his responsibility to guard our relationship. When one gets a dog, one discovers so many things. They are stubborn. They are adorable. They are the best. However, I have learned one thing about my Fievel, besides being the smartest and cutest dog in the world, he always seems to think the grass on the other side of my fence is better then the grass on our side! It's not but he tries to sneak his neck through the fence to reach and taste the grass on the other side of the fence even though he might get his neck caught or stuck or any number of catastrophic events. Silly dog! However, are we any better than Fievel? We often try to go outside of God's protective fence to try whatever might be on the other side even when it might be disastrous as well. Dogs are the best. They are called man's (or woman's) best friend for a reason. They offer unconditional love. They cheer you up when you are sad.
