On this episode of Digging Diversely, Jacqui and Kat discuss Disney and Pixar's film Zootopia.  This film explores themes and topics that are very adult despite being a film marketed to kids.  It is a very poignant film for 2016 and hope you were as moved by as it Jacqui and Kat were.

This week we tackle a heavy duty topic.  Abusive relationships.  We talk about Harley and Joker. We talk about personal experiences. We talk about why it's harmful to ship a character with their abuser.  Problems with normalizing abuse and justification. We thought it was important to talk about this topic because it can get uncomfy and it's important. 

And here is part 2 of our discussion about Headlines from the Rio Olympics.  We talk about our favorite positive stories that came out of the olympics. We discuss the merphelps conspiracy theory. We talk about moments that brought tears to our eyes and hope into our hearts. We also play a little game called "Hamlet or Hamilton". 

This week Jacqui and Kat talk about headlines and stories during the Olympics that were pretty terrible.  We talk about how women can only be recognized by their husband, how a tie for silver is more important than a gold metal, terrible commentary, and how a 32 year old is now a kid.  We had so much to say that next week we will be bringing you a part 2 where we discuss our favorite headlines and stories from Rio. This week we start out with our casual discussion of our favorite childhood tv shows, disney channel original movies, and being a faux redhead. The main topic this week is all about the announcement that Sulu is gay.  We talk about George Takei's reaction. We talk about the importance of normalizing gay relationships in media and how Star Trek will hopefully move every body forward as it has always done in that past. We talk a lot about sexuality this episode and we bring up bisexuality & the erasure of it.  John Boyega teased romance for Episode 8 - WHO WILL IT BE???? We know who we want. In the end we get really sappy talking about what we've learned since we started podcasting.

This week on Digging Diversely we discuss the announcement of RiRi Williams taking over as Iron Man this fall. This we we are bringing you a fan fiction fire-side chat.  Kat and Jacqui discuss their first experiences with fan fiction and why people may deem it taboo.  Fandom lingo is explained, tropes are explored, and what words should you NOT use to describe someone's skin color?  Tune in and enjoy as Jacqui and Kat expose their true selves for all of the internet to hear. 

This week Jacqui and Kat discuss the cast for Spider-Man Homecoming due out in theaters next year.  Is Marvel finally onto something?  Tune in to hear out thoughts on Spidey and the gang.  We also discuss X-Men Apocalypse and Oscar Isaac's wasted potential as a super villain.  We play "What if your fave was problematic?" This week on digging diversely we invite broadway actor Dan Horn to share some of his experiences working on a few different broadway shows.  We talk about swinging, stilts, and sharing a special moment with Lea Solanga during a quick.  Dan talks about Bullets Over Broadway and Cinderella.  We talk about his most terrifying swing experience, weirdest audition request, and working on Allegiance with George Takei.  We discuss getting a change to learn about a part of American history that isn't talked about very much.  We also mention Dan's "long flowing hair" from many years ago.  Dan plays "guess this musical" where Jacqui plays a small clip of a show and he has to guess what it's from.  

In this episode, we talk about diversity and reconning in the Harry Potter series (both the books and the movies). We talk about Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. We discuss our favourite fan theories. We talk about Albus Dumbledore's sexuality. We talk about our experience at Wizard World Philadelphia (we met Sebastian Stan!), and we give book recommendations.

This week's episode discusses femininity and gender roles in the Disney Princess films. It focuses on on the early era of princesses--Cinderella, Snow White, and Aurora. We discuss Disney's attempts to be progressive and how, despite all they try to do, they still present the same message in all of their films. We go through and discuss what Disney does with each individual princess, and we end with "Does this pass the Bechdel Test?" We might mention Sebastian Stan, we might not (we definitely do).

On this weeks episode of Digging Diversely, we discuss Dawson Casting, the pressure placed on young girls by the media, the effects of "teen" dramas on the idea of what relationships "should" be like, and ageism in general. Jacqui and Kat pick one word that they would want to be described as other than pretty.  And in the end, Jacqui quizzes Kat on actors' ages when they played teens. This week on Digging Diversely we are going to talk about Captain America: Civil War.  Jacqui and Kat both had too many thoughts and feels not to share them with you all.  We go through each character and talk about moments that surprised us, excited us, and even frustrated us.  *Spoilers.

We talk about the comic lore, Ta-Nehisi Coates (author of the most recent run of Black Panther comics), Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, the Black Panther movie that's coming down the pipe, and we have a special story that proves just how important the character Black Panther is to some people. We introduce a new segment in this episode: What Questions Should(n't) You ask a Celebrity?

In this episode, we talk about the business side of why Marvel might have decided not to cast an Asian actor as The Ancient One in Doctor Strange, we continue the whitewashing discussion from last week's episode but shift the focus to Tilda Swinton, there's a tangent about Bennydoodle Cumberquat, we talk about some of the broader issues with Doctor Strange, you can expect a lot of Marvel critiques, Rosario Dawson comes up, we go into Night Nurse a bit, and we play the game "Is this Whitewashing?" This episode will be discussing the whitewashing of Major Motoko Kusanagi in the live action film Ghost in the Shell. We also touch on whitewashing in general in the film industry.
