Episódios

  • Cheer on Netflix, A Beautiful Lie (an Australian show) and The Player

    26/01/2020 Duração: 45min

What makes Cheer on Netflix so compelling? We react to Cheer and its look into the cheerleading subculture of the U.S., and discuss some of the controversy around the series. Next up is A Beautiful Lie, available on the CBC Gem App here in Canada. This series is a modern take on Anna Karenina, one of the foremost novels in history. We also wonder why Australian series don't get as much love as they should here in North America. Lastly, the 90s film The Player. It's aged badly, but is it still interesting? 17/11/2019 Duração: 40min

The holiday movie season has begun and this week Helen and Niall delve into the big-screen "Christmas Movie of the Decade," (or at least how its marketing has billed it): Last Christmas, featuring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. Next up with take a look back at Season 1 of the Crown, which gives you lots of time to catch up on Season 3 of the Crown in a future episode with us (be sure to subscribe!). Last of all, it's Netflix's answer to Hallmark Christmas movies with Holiday in the Wild, an absolutely garbage script foisted on a comely Rob Lowe and a still gorgeous Charlotte from Sex and the City aka Kristin Davis. • Between Two Ferns on Netflix is Sorta Funny, Abominable is a Fun Movie, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Crashing is a Riot, Flowers S2 is a Delight

    29/09/2019 Duração: 43min

We delve into Zach Galifianakis' Between Two Ferns made us laugh (but fell down in some parts), Abominable...should you take your kids to the movie theatre or wait for it to come out on digital? The Emmys just happened and Phoebe Waller-Bridge won big for Fleabag, so we look at her first TV show, Crashing. It's on Netflix and it's great. We also watch Will Sharpe's Season 2 of Flowers. Uneven but still brilliant.

  • Flowers on Netflix is Superb, Below Deck Med Season 4 is Awesome, Hysteria the Def Leppard Documentary is Brilliant

    14/09/2019 Duração: 43min

    01/09/2019 Duração: 47min

  • Fleabag is Superb, Mission Impossible Fallout is Awful, Glow Season 3 is the Best Yet, The Saint Still Holds Up

    25/08/2019 Duração: 45min

Lots of spoilers in this episode about Fleabag, which is brilliant. A very brief mention of why Mission Impossible Fallout is terrible (except for Henry Cavill). Glow Season 3 with Marc Maron is the best season yet and this show keeps getting better. The Saint still holds up as a smart movie with lots of chemistry between Elizabeth Shue and Val Kilmer. Let us know what you think! @helenrac and @getyoureyeson

  • Destination Wedding is Smart and Charming, Spy Who Dumped Me is Hilarious, and Almost Famous Divides Us

    11/08/2019 Duração: 42min

It's Amazon Prime video time! Destination Wedding featuring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder was savaged in the press, but we liked its snappy dialogue and mature realness. The Spy Who Dumped me features Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon (and a very appealing Sam Heughan). It's a really fun summer girls' caper action movie, watch it! Almost Famous with Jason Lee and Kate Hudson is rewatchable (according to Niall) and the worst (according to Helen). Here's why they disagree on it. Also, are their telephone operators anymore? Tweet us at @helenrac and let us know!

  • MIB International is Fun, Black Mirror Striking Vipers is just OK, Last Breath is SO Moving

    16/06/2019 Duração: 43min

SPOILER ALERT We were invited to a pre-screening of Men In Black International, starting Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. This is what we thought of it. Black Mirror season 5 is out now and we watch Striking Vipers starring Anthony Mackie. The premise is amazing and the acting is great, but this new season fails to deliver the emotional resonance of seasons past. Last Breath (no spoilers here) is a documentary about a diving accident, and it's touching, moving and the best thing Niall has watched all year. Next podcast we'll discuss Indigo Traveller, a YouTube channel on our must-watch list! Thanks for listening everyone, and hit us up with your comments on Twitter: @helenrac

American Meme is a sad but watchable documentary featuring Paris Hilton, Brittany Furlan, The Fat Jewish and Kirill. How To Get Over a Breakup (Soltera Codiciada in Spanish) is a bright and beautiful romcom from Peru that you need to get your eyes on.

  • The Choice, Tuca and Bertie, Highway Thru Hell Season 3

    20/05/2019 Duração: 43min

Hello everyone! Skip ahead to 14:27 if you want to miss our chat about Howard Stern's interview on Terry Gross' Fresh Air on NPR (or hang out with us as we delve into it). We watched The Choice based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. It was a mixed bag, but we both agree it was beautifully shot. Tuca and Bertie stars the voice acting of Tiffany Haddish (Girls' Trip) and Ali Wong (Hard Knock Wife) and is just adorable, kooky and delightful. Highway Thru Hell takes us back to when the Alberta Oil Sands were booming just a few years ago (they're not anymore) and some of the characters and conflicts that fuel the show.
