Get Your Eyes On This

We've visiting windy Chicago and in honour of this beautiful city we are digging deep into Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Who were some of the other men almost cast in the role of Ferris? And of Cameron and Sloane? Why is this movie still fresh? Is it a better movie than John Hughes other teen leviathan, The Breakfast Club? Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2  are a delight, aside from the airbrushing. Surfwise is about a doctor who checks out of the rat race (kids in tow) to pursue surfing. Decades later, how do his kids turn out? The Good Fight season 2 continues to impress Helen with its "wokeness." It's Kind Of A Funny Story is about a teen who spends some time in a psychiatric institution, which Niall has experienced and wrote about in the Globe and Mail ("Niall McGee Didn't Believe in Depression--Until Cancer Medication Put Him In A Suicidal Spiral"). He also mentions the recent article by Shannon Purser (Riverdale, Stranger Things) on Depression and OCD in Teen Vogue. Then it's the Joan Didion doc The Center Will Not Hold, and Not Another Teen Movie featuring all the baby tees and thin 90s eyebrows you can get your eyes on.

We dip into lots of different shows and movies: Blockers with Ike Barinholtz and Leslie Mann, Stealing Beauty with the luminous Liv Tyler, Cable Girls set in Madrid, Off Course, a Spanish rom-com set in Berlin. Plus we talk about the little-known but very moving Ricky Gervais vehicle Derek. The Avengers comes up again as Helen starts to watch Dr. Strange with Benedict Cumberbatch. We touch quickly on the Crazy Rich Asians movie and why Helen is going no matter what the reviews say. Helen loves the horror show that is Real Housewives (except that terrible Toronto version), we weigh in on Southern Charm and UnReal's 3rd season. Also we get into Jason Alexander's recent interview on the WTF podcast with Marc Maron and what it is that makes Seinfeld so memorable versus the dated Friends. Niall recently watched The People Vs. Larry Flynt and when we finished the podcast taping, we read that Milos Forman, its director, had died. He had won Oscars for One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus. RIP.
