When people outside the church look inside, what do they see? Are we properly representing Christ? Some say the church is in decline, but we believe the church is in refine. We have an assurance in the scriptures of eternal life for all who believe in Christ. Why then as LGBTIQ+ people of faith do we sometimes discount these passages (though seldom argued) and hold instead to scriptures that have nothing to do with us (and are still debated today) as same sex attracted or gender diverse persons in loving relationships? In honour of IDAHOBIT we break the silence about who we are with a message titled "coming out" and two questions.....What did we take into isolation that we do not want to come out with and what hope do we have or what did we discover during this time that we want to hold onto when we come out!Jesus too had to come out. He bought all our pain, suffering, rejection and screw ups and he took them into an isolated tomb....but he came out victorious....his victory is our victory. In Mark 9 Jesus is sharing time with his Disciples. During this time he imparts some important understanding around who is the greatest in the Kingdom and who is called a child of God.In these passages we see some severe consequences for anyone who causes someone else faith to stumble.If you are a member of the LGBTIQ community you need to know that God loves you and Christ accepts you. We all have traditions we hold dear to in our lives; traditions handed down from generation to generation. The Jewish leaders of Jesus day in their attempts to hold to these traditions missed the very heart of God. Jesus spent a bit of time trying to break down the legalism and hypocrisy of the Pharisees. When the wind and the waves of life toss us around like Covid19 has done we need Jesus and we need each other. When Jesus comes to town everything changes. The Jewish people of the day were right to look to the past to anticipate the future. Sadly however, they were looking through the wrong lens and as a result they missed the mark. Each new year brings opportunity to reflect on the previous year and to look forward to the year ahead. We make resolutions about our health and our wealth and as Christians many time we ask God, what is the new that you have for me. Unlike people however, God's plans for our life don't change. Rather, God walks with us through the seasons of our lives as we live being led by God into the plan and purpose for our lives.
