Ep. 210 - Static Shock - Power Play
21/05/2022 Duração: 01h51sCome for the multiple references to the 2008 film Jumper, stay for the review of Static Shock season 2 episode "Power Play" that features the first time Richie Foley would get super powers. Richie doesn't develop his own powers but is instead gifted them by a strange man has tried to give him self a catchy nickname. The Good Brothers are quick to point out goes over just as well as when anyone else tries to bestow a nickname upon themselves, and also call out his lack of originality on the others he's bestowed powers upon. Hear the hosts talk about a really good episode showcasing Jason Marsden's acting chops, some very meta voice acting from Phil Lamarr, music that gets a passing grade from the resident harshest critic of Static's soundtrack, and a plot that seems undercut by later seasons and a lack of consequences. Plus the hosts talk about the early 2000s era superhero trend of avoiding classic costumes, which Looney Tunes character the villain reminds one host of and a special preview for next week's fin

Ep. 209 - Static Shock - Flashback
14/05/2022 Duração: 01h10minA week after American's celebrate the Mothers in their lives, the Good Brothers are here for a very special episode of Static Shock titled "Flashback" - an episode that finds Static headed to the past and attempt to stop his own mother from tragically dying. Cal and Liam walk a tightrope of an emotional story that suffers from a lot happening in a very little bit of time, and selling important story beats short. The hosts compare this story to the similar "Flashpoint" storyline from the comics and the live action Flash show, and discuss how the visuals also suffer due to a packed episode. As always, the hosts have strong opposing feelings on the Season 3 music choices from composer Richard Wolf, while both agreeing on some strong vocal performances from two voice-acting legends during the more emotional scenes. Wrapping it all up the hosts preview next week's episode and discuss much more on this week's DCAU Review! Ep. 208 - Static Shock - Child's Play
07/05/2022 Duração: 56minIt's a new month so the Good Brothers are headed for sunny skies and the optimistic nature of Static Shock with this week's review of the season one episode entitled "Child's Play." The hosts get right down to business discussing a plot which sees a story without a real moral, Richie wearing a duster as a disguise, unfortunate Asian stereotype caricatures, but fun visuals that bend reality in a good way. Plus, an episode soundtrack that has even Static's harshest critic enjoying the music, a very meta scene about comic books, several visual choices that led to feeling like the Super Friends, a pretty solid performance from our kid actor and a preview of next week's very special review on this week's all new DCAU Review! Ep. 206 - JLU - Hunter's Moon
23/04/2022 Duração: 01h19minOver one hundred episodes after reviewing "Starcrossed" the Good Brothers are back to follow up with a review of its' sequel, the Justice League Unlimited episode "Hunter's Moon." Hear the hosts discuss how with hindsight they may have saved this for a multi-episode arc for season three, fun visuals that draw inspiration from Predator and at times venture into being a little bit creepy. Music takes a backseat this week, though there are a few spots the hosts discuss, and with a nerd-god on the voice cast and one of the original seven's great performance, the voice acting is worth a lengthy discussion. Hear all of this, a preview for next week's DCAU Spotlight and much more on this week's DCAU Review! Ep. 205 - JLU - Double Date
16/04/2022 Duração: 01h23minThe Good Brothers are back and they're reviewing one of the most loved episodes of Justice League Unlimited with this week's episode "Double Date." Hear the hosts discuss which of the DCAU producers count this episode among their favorites, some of writer Gail Simone's behind the scenes stories about crafting this masterpiece and how this episode was originally going to be an origin vehicle for the DCAU Birds of Prey! After breaking down a plot that features an equal amount of comedy, mystery and action with a grounded set of heroes, Cal and Liam discuss the character models based on several classic cinematic mobsters, a soundtrack that hits in all of the right places except maybe one and a small but extremely memorable voice cast that turns in some of the best of their performances for the entire series. Plus hear about the retroactive Easter Egg connection to Batman Beyond and why one of the hosts feels this episode is the best of the entire JLU run. All of this, a preview of next week's episode and much mo

Ep. 204 - JLU - Task Force X
09/04/2022 Duração: 01h14minAfter a wild trip through the Multiversal Portal last week, the Good Brothers return for a month's worth of Justice League Unlimited episodes starting with this week's review of "Task Force X." Hear the hosts discuss the DCAU's one and only appearance of their Pseudo-Suicide Squad, and the real world events that paralleled in the writing from legendary writers Dwayne McDuffie and Darwyn Cooke. Additionally, Cal & Liam discuss a voice cast led by a series regular in a guest star role and a soundtrack from the Dynamic Music Partners that draws directly from the episode's heist/thriller theme. Also discussed is this episode's retroactive easter egg connecting to a Batman Beyond character, one character's accent changing mid episode and questioning why the Task Force didn't try to steal a different weapon held in the Watchtower. All of this and a preview for next week's episode all await you on this week's DCAU Review! Be sure to subscribe to The Podtower on YouTube for more content from the #DCAUReview

Ep. 203 - Spiderman: The Animated Series - "Night Of The Lizard"
02/04/2022 Duração: 01h18minTo celebrate the holiday where everything is flipped upside down, the Good Brothers find themselves in a strange land where there are no Dark Knights or Men of Steel and come face to face with Ol' Webhead instead with their first (and perhaps only) review of Marvel's Spiderman: The Animated Series pilot episode "Night Of The Lizard." The hosts do their best to review the episode in a vacuum while still giving fair critique in the unfortunate comparison between their rival DC cartoons. Not only do the hosts talk about the somewhat ridiculous plot of a Lizard man wanting to turn all humans into Lizard people, but the standards and practices that kept the fighting to a minimum, a showrunner that was mostly interested in the sale of action figures first and foremost. Yet there's some charm from a decent voice cast with several DCAU veterans and a theme song that deserves its' own episode to appreciate its' awesomeness. All of this and much more fun await on this very special April Fools edition of the DCAU Review

Fresh off celebrating episode 200 and having special correspondent Jordan Gibson last week, the hosts talk about Maxie Zeus's one and only appearance in the DCAU. Additionally hear about another home run of a soundtrack from the late, great Shirley Walker, a perfect voice casting for the role of Maxie and Batman versus a pair of wild animals! All of this and more discussion of the episode and a look at next weekend's VERY unique April Fools episode, all on this week's DCAU Review! Cal & Liam additionally break down how faithfully this adaptation of Dennis O'Neil's story is done, visuals that absolutely are crushed by TMS animation studios, speculation on whether Ra's is demonically empowered based on one particular scene, and why th

Ep. 199 - Elseworlds - The Batman - Riddled
05/03/2022 Duração: 01h03minHappy The Batman Week! Everyone seems to be talking about The Batman so the Good Brothers decided to take advantage of that online discourse and review of the underrated 2004's animated The Batman and its' first Riddler episode, appropriately titled "Riddled." Cal and Liam take a look back at this series for the first time in 100 episodes, but are excited to discuss a very different and unique looking Riddler from most interpretations, that happens to be voiced by one of the biggest legends in horror movie history! With a plot that wouldn't be out of place in the Batman '66 series, Batman teams with Detective Yin to race across Gotham to try and uncover a VERY early 2000s plot involving Gotham's mainframe. Hear the hosts thoughts on not only the Riddler's look but the overall look of Gotham, the buffoonery from Chief Rojas, why this episode is fun and the common thread that seems to run through most Riddler stories. Plus a very exciting preview of next week's 200th episode and more await you on this 199th edi

Ep. 198 - DCAU Character Spotlight - Darkseid, Vol. I
26/02/2022 Duração: 01h09minAs the shortest month of the year draws to a close, the Good Brothers are still here and they're shining a big ol' spotlight on one of the darkest characters in the entire DC Universe, with volume one of Darkseid! Hear about his little known origins in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, and a trip back in time to some of the earliest episodes of Superman: The Animated Series that were covered on the podcast. Additionally Cal & Liam discuss his overall look and design, the ruthless nature of the character, the Kristopher Carter composed theme that would come to be the character's signature tune and the legendary Michael Ironside's performance as the leader of Apokolips. Ep. 197 - STAS - Double Dose
19/02/2022 Duração: 59minThe Good Brothers are still recovering from last week's doozy of an episode but soldier on nonetheless with this week's Superman: The Animated Series review of "Double Dose." One of the few episodes of Superman to feature a villain team-up, this one features dialogue and plot points that leave the hosts feeling a bit uncomfortable. With a ton of sexual-innuendo and in the dialogue, the hosts turn to visuals and music to rescue the scores and prevent it from being the second straight week where they're forced to bury the entire episode. The voice acting also features an entire cast of returning voices lending to a comfortability in the performances, despite not all of them being up to par. After a full breakdown and scorecard, Cal & Liam next week's DCAU Character Spotlight subject and a shoutout to the Timm Talk podcast for their recent accomplishments await on this week's all new DCAU Review! Ep. 196 - STAS - Superman's Pal
12/02/2022 Duração: 01h09minWeek Two of the Good Brothers' latest month of Superman: The Animated Series reviews is here and it's bound to be a memorable one as they review the infamous episode "Superman's Pal." The hosts have a ton of fun talking about how historically bad this episode is and they do not pull any punches. From a plot that feels like a waste of Metallo's final appearance of the series, to visuals that give the notoriously bad Cat Scratch Fever and Unity a run for their money. While music is the most consistent part of the episode, Cal and Liam share their thoughts on a few inconsistent performances in the voice acting which all leads to a few historically bad scores. But just when you thought it was over, both hosts share a deduction point which makes the final scores downright hilarious. Tune in to hear all of this and much more on this week's DCAU Review! Ep. 195 - STAS - Solar Power
05/02/2022 Duração: 01h08minThe Good Brothers are back in the sunny skies of Metropolis, but this week's review of "Solar Power" and the return of the villainous Luminous may have them seeing red! Hear their thoughts on a episode they admit to seeing almost more than any other episode of Superman: The Animated Series including a plot that travels a familiar revenge plot, with a few magical, non-descript pieces of technology that give the villain the upperhand and causes Superman to experience even more humanity than he's used to, art style that comes from a director of a few other of the hosts favorite episodes, and musical cues that strengthen the intensity of the fight scenes. Additionally Cal and Liam discuss the voice cast featuring the voice of the original Iron Man, classic homages to the 1940s Superman Radio intro and just whether or not Lex Luthor was behind the entire plot of the episode. Plus hear a preview for next week's episode and much more on this week's DCAU Review! Be sure to subscribe to The Podtower on YouTube for mor

Ep. 194 - Elseworlds - Young Justice - Coldhearted
29/01/2022 Duração: 01h01minIt's the fifth Saturday of the month and you know what that means, it's time for a trip around the Multiverse and the Good Brothers find themselves smackdab in the middle of Young Justice Season One with a review of "Coldhearted." Despite this being a "seasonally appropriate" episode featuring snow and ice as many living in the northern hemisphere can attest, there is plenty of inappropriate behavior from Kid Flash as the hosts discovered upon their viewing. Furthermore the hosts do their best to find silver linings through the episode and do in visuals but struggle in both the voice acting and overall plot. Hear their thoughts on a soundtrack from the Dynamic Music Partners and this universe's take on Vandal Savage, in addition to a preview of next month's exciting coverage!
