Peter encourages us to add to our faith goodness and knowledge. Goodness is simply virtue or moral excellence. It is living out our God given purpose while we are on this earth. Knowledge is the ability to know the ways of God and to be able to handle life successfully.  

We take a look at our nation and how we should pray for current issues and government as we are facing the election of a new president.

We begin this sermon series Faith Matters in 2 Peter 1:5-7. Faith is the beginning point for salvation, but it doesn't end there. Peter encourages us to add to our faith…goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection and love. In this sermon we talk about the Divine Nature God has given us to live out life and godliness.

When it comes to prayer, who doesn't struggle with keeping their concentration, focus and attention on the Lord? The ACTS model prayer is a simple way to help keep you focused and attentive as you walk through four areas of prayer life.

With so many controversial topics in our culture, it is crucial to know what scripture says about how we are to believe and live. This sermon will give 5 things to look for when reading the Word and how to apply it.

When it comes to being a Jesus follower, spending time with Jesus is one of the hardest disciplines to have. This sermon will establish where we are going throughout the summer and remind us that Bible study and prayer is at the heart of our day to day grind. As believers, we should be "careful" how we build on the foundation of Jesus Christ.

Every phase of life requires a plan.  There are 3 foundational ideas from scripture that should be the bedrock that our plans are built on.  In our pursuit of Jesus we should strive for the max!  Give everything we are and everything we have.  Spend time authenticating Jesus' voice.  Life gets loud sometimes, knowing His voice is where we find refuge and protection in the craziness of life.  We also must get our hands dirty.  The heart of one who is truly pursuing God desires to see people changed.  They strive to be difference makers.

As we dedicate children on this day, we consider why they are considered a reward. Parenting is hard core if we chose to raise our children according to scripture. Look with us we dig into the proposer perspective for raising children God's way!

In the final message wrapping up the Vision Matters series we dig deep into 2 Peter to unpack what it means to take ownership of our faith.  As believers we must live in the tension between God's sovereignty and our responsibility. God never releases us from taking ownership of our salvation.  In fact He gives us the command to develop and live by seven virtues that ultimately allows each of us to walk in victory!

In the fifth of our Vision Matters series, we ask the question: How would you live out your Holy Spirit gifting if the church didn't provide a program in which you could serve? According to Acts 2, the simplicity of authentic community was very effective, and should be modeled in our communities today.

The idea of discipleship seems like trying to pin jello to the wall sometimes. What does it really look like? What does it take to really make it happen? In this part of our Vision Matter series, we look at Peter and his road to being a disciple, and point out two sides of the discipleship coin. 1. Someone must be willing to disciple. 2. Someone must be willing to be discipled.

When it comes to living out life…how do we know how to behave, live and know right from wrong? In this sermon, we look at the importance of not only having scriptural truth, but living it out! Having biblical truth gives us purpose, direction and meaning to life as we navigate through God’s purposes for oiur lives.

The first dilema recorded in scripture was Adam being alone. God said “it is not good for man to be alone.” We are made to be in relationship with others. The sermon kicks off a 5 week sermon series on the vision, mission and DNA of Highland Heights. In this sermon we look at the origin of the New Testament church, what membership should look like and why we should be actively involved in church life!

Without the resurrection, we have no hope! But because of it, we have been justified before God and have right standing in His presence. As God’s creation, we need to be able to answer the three greatest questions of the soul…”Why Am I Here?”…"What Is My Purpose?”.. “Where Will I Go When I Die?" Because of the resurrection we can know the answers to these questions and live in confidence that life has meaning and that we do have a hope and a future!

When it comes to men leading their family well, there is always a struggle! When it comes to marriage, the simple fact is…men and women are different! This sermon takes a look at biblical manhood and how we are to lead our wives in humility and strength.

Peter encourages the wife in this passage to live a live that reflects a Godly relationship with her savior. Women whose husband may be lost can be won over by the simple attitude and submission we find in Christ. Submission doesn’t mean losing ones self, but understanding that God has an order for everyone to live by. He encourages the women to allow their beauty to be found through their inward relationship with Jesus rather than the outward appearance that is fading away.

One of the greatest struggles in culture is when the church has to push through governing authorities making decisions that contradict biblical truths. We can respect the “office” of a person even when we don’t agree with the person in the office. Our public conduct as believers in how we deal with these issues has a huge impact on the lost world who are once again, watching us!

In the Christian life, we are in a war! The goal is not to win the war, but the battles along the way. Jesus has already won the war, but there has been a strategy set against us to defeat us in the day-to-day battles. Only through Christ do we find victory in these battles, and we are to fight for that victory knowing the lost world is watching us each day!!
