In my last post, I asked if anyone had some older mixes that I long ago lost due to a hard drive crash. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Dean and Marshall for making it happen. The BPM Edition 2009 v5, which was originally 4 sets has been combined into two and is now available for the first time in years. Five sets of the BPM Edition 2009 v1 and the 2 sets of Funky Edition 2008 v1 and v2 have now been combined into one and are also available. I had a problem with the Top Dance Songs of the Year 2007: Deep & Funky because in both cases they had split the tracks up and their track listing wasn't matching up with what was originally posted. Along with 1999, 2007 is one of my all-time favorite years of house music. Folks like Freemasons, Moto Blanco, Soulseekers, 7th Heaven, Bassmonkeys, Wideboys, and DJ Meme were all on the cusp of becoming DJ and production superstars. It's that time of year again; and what a roller coaster year this has been; not just for me in my professional life or for Britney Spears, Amy, Paris, Nicole & Lindsey, the flailing housing market, rising gas prices, or even a sadistic administration that is the true access of evil; but more importantly club music. Every ten years or so, musical styles and tastes begin to evolve. Oftentimes pop music is nothing more than a reflection of decades past and a direct result of the social issues surrounding us at that time. We've witnessed how alternative music has reached back to the eighties for the "garage band" sound and are now seeing low-tech electro-pop music come back into fashion as well. Erasure who never really changed their sound is now back in style; even if the masses didn't gravitate to their superior and much under-appreciated "Light At The End Of The World" album. Just finished Deep Edition 2007 v3 a few days ago. Starts off with some nice low key house, which builds on top of each other. By the fourth song, you'll notice a different direction as it transitions into some techno house and then into more progressive deep sounds before dropping down again. Take notice of the smoking gospel mashup between Antoine Clamaran and Alison Limerick! Though my other half can't stand these mixes, I find them soothing. Enjoy! The Deep Edition 2007 v1 is first in a series of house mixes that I will update frequently. The original series was called "Leftovers" but I decided to stay with the Party Favorz theme. You'll know the style based on the title. For instance, "Deep" is laid back smooth house with a little alternative thrown in for good measure...nothing ever gets too loud though. Earlier in the Summer, a very good friend of mine announced she was moving back to New York. She asked if she could get another copy of the Everything But The Girl mix I had made for her, a year earlier. For whatever reason, I could not find it anywhere. So, I decided to make another.
