Matthew 11 & 14

The Corinthian church had lots of problems. One of those was that they did not do community well. Lucky for us, we have nothing in common with that church, right?

We were created with inherent cravings or longings, things like the universal needs of mankind to be loved, to have a purpose, to worship or to live a rich and satisfying life. Continuing on the Power of 3 journey this weeks message explores some steps that can help to deepen our relationship and experiences with God. Stop hiding from God, Don't fall for the lies of the deceiver and make a B line for Christ.

To fully express God's heart for humanity we prioritise Experiencing him, Embracing each other and Engaging the world. These concepts are designed to be expressed holistically, both corporately and personally. This message looks at this balance and the challenges associated with having one of these Es as the centre, as opposed to God.

We all have individual names, but we also have a community name too. Lake Community Church has been given a special name by God, a special vision that God wants to manifest through us. What's your role in seeing this vision become reality?

God is a Name-Caller. In the bible, he took broken people, called them by new names, and changed the direction of their lives. The story of Jacob is a great example of this. Today, God wants us to come to him with all our brokenness so he can give us a new name, one that will give us life in all its fulness on earth, and eternity in heaven with him.

Yes, you are correct, this is not a recorded Beatitude in the Gospels. However, I think it is God's intention for the pinnacle of his creation - humanity. This message will explore the Genesis account as a blue print for God's people living a blessed life and why Jesus' birth is critical to the restoration to life God purposed for you and me.

Being a disciple of Jesus isn't a conservative, safe, 'nice' thing to do. It's a radical, risky and adventurous. Romans 12 shows us how a disciple is marked by sacrifice, non-conformity and transformation. Only those who embrace those three are true disciples. True disciples understand the true meaning of #YOLO - a youth culture acronym for "You only live once".

A challenge to share the Gospel with all those in our sphere of influence.

To be a follower of Jesus means that we follow his commandments. This includes following his general commands in the Bible, and also his special individual requests to us. If we are to be "following in the dust of our rabbi", we should expect to see evidence of our obedience in all areas of our life, and experience the wonderful fruit that obedience brings.

Following Jesus' words to make disciples results in on going generational differences in our lives and the lives of those around us. Following these words though doesn't necessarily require an elaborate plan, but making consistent, spirit responsive decisions throughout our day. Are your decisions resulting in steps of discipleship for you or others? Today's message explores this question.

In Romans 12, Paul pleads with the believers to offer their bodies as living sacrifices, explaining that this is the way to truly worship God. This message celebrates our redemption story and calls for a response of worship to the one who alone Is worthy.

Love is the true mark of a follower of Jesus. The new commandment to love one another lifts the ceiling on our capacity to love. By abiding in The Vine, we are able to love out of the infinite resources of Jesus' love.

Throughout his ministry, Jesus made clear the close association between being a disciple and making disciples. Being a christian isn't an internal practice, but an external one. Some think of evangelism as hard, uncomfortable and forceful. However, evangelism that is natural and gentle is much more effective. People of today are listening to that kind of evangelism.

There is a very well known fella in the bible, who made a great success in his career: the fisherman Simon Peter. He and his friends caught uncountable number of fish in one throwing. The two boats were so full with fish that they began to sink. But the story finishes like this: he and his friends left all the fish they just caught behind as well as their boats, nets, and everything. And followed Jesus. How could that be? What made him become such a radical follower of Jesus?

Sometimes we pray for healing, and it happens. Other times we pray for healing and it doesn't? Why? Whilst no answer can fully satisfy, there is plenty in our understanding of the Kingdom of God to help us understand this tension. How should we respond to this tension? We pray! We pray big prayers, persistent prayers and honest prayers, and we wait in faith for God to answer
