Bible In The News

On August 31 it was reported that ISIL or ISIS, the group know as the Islamic State blew up "Palmyra’s treasured Temple of Bel” in Syria. The National Post commented that, "The temple, dating back to 32 AD, shows a unique merging of ancient Near Eastern and Greco-Roman architecture. It is dedicated to the Semitic god Bel and is considered one of the most important religious buildings of the first century.”

This past month the Republican candidacy contender for US Presidential election, Mike Huckabee, made several bold statements stating the Iran nuclear deal was hideous, affirming that Judea and Samaria were part of Israel, and declaring Jerusalem was Israel's rightful capital - flying in the face of American, European, and United Nations policy.

Our title is not our own words but the words of the former Israel Security Agency (or Shin Bet) chief Yuval Diskin according to the Jerusalem Post this week.

The horrific death last week, of a Palestinian toddler, in an arson attack on his home, has brought the usual torrent of condemnation on Israel, and its government.  Of course, it’s not surprising that such a killing should be vigorously denounced; but why is it that Israel is the only country where the whole nation, or at least the government, is held accountable for every crime that occurs in its territory?

CNBC reported on July 31 that, "The price of oil could be stuck firmly at around $50 a barrel by 2020, a Goldman Sachs analyst told CNBC, raising new fears about the energy companies that have already started to cut costs, projects and jobs to cope with falling revenues.” 

Hello and welcome to another Bible in the news. We live in an epic time period. It seems that world events are heating up with more and more happening on the world stage which is relevant to the prophecies we read of in the Bible. This is Matt Davies joining you for another Bible in the News, I hope you are well.

While the world rejoices in the historic nuclear arms deal signed in Vienna between America, Iran, Russia, the EU, Britain and other nations - our minds go back to the appeasement policies of Chamberlain prior to WWII. It was Churchill who defined appeasement as feeding a crocodile hoping it will eat you last.

Europe’s headache of Greece once again has come to the fore in the news over the last few weeks. Greece is in a major crisis financially.  As world leaders scramble to find a solution we consider Greece as part of the Kingdom of men spoken of in Bible prophecy. Sir Nicholas Winton and Alan Overton.Several newspapers this week reported the death of Sir Nicholas Winton who saved hundreds of Jewish refugee children from Czechoslovakia in 1938. The Jerusalem Post, for example, had this: "Seeing the desperate plight of the Jews in the German-controlled Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia, Winton immediately set up a makeshift office in his hotel room in Prague and began receiving parents who were desperate to get their children to the safety of Britain - the only country that was willing to take in Jewish children from Nazi-ruled countries, but with several provisos. They had to come without their parents, the children - or kinder - could not be aged above 17, and a £50 guarantee, per child, was required to cover the costs of their eventual return to their country of origin when that became possible. Naturally, no one considered the possibility that the children's parents would not still be alive at that point."

This Friday the UK Daily Telegraph Online prominently displayed the large headline, “Terrorists Strike Around the World”. The attacks were perpetrated by Islamists in Tunisia, Kuwait and France. These type of attacks are quickly becoming a feature of the times we live in. It may seem that Islam is on the rise.

We look this week at the events in Yemen, Putin's recent visit to the Vatican and the computer virus that was found to be monitoring the Iranian nuclear talks.

The Western media is full of an ideology called “Postmodernism”. This weeks Bible in the news looks briefly into this subject in the light of the Bible.

There is not a chance that vote would go through today.  This is John Billington with you this week for another edition of the Bible in the News. Around the world Anti-Semitism is on the rise at an alarming rate and Dave made it clear last week that the Vatican is certainly involved, in fact  taking a leading role.

Recent events have reinforced the Vatican’s pro-Palestinian Arab stand in regards to Jerusalem and Israel. These include events during the latest pope’s visit to Israel and now Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to the Vatican for the canonization of two Palestinian Catholic Nuns, as well as the recognition by the Vatican of the State of Palestine.

The UK election has happened. The Conservative Party has got in with a majority vote and David Cameron is back as UK Prime Minister - but where does this leave the UK? This week we take a look at this election result through the lens of Bible prophecy and note the signs of the soon return of Jesus Christ to the earth.

As the world is gripped with the violence in Baltimore and the earthquake in Nepal, the political seas and waves are also roaring throughout Europe. Russia is expanding and flexing its military might while Europe can only offer veiled protests and legal action.

This Saturday’s National Post Newspaper in Canada had a striking front page, with the message: “Exodus to Quebec, Many Jews are fleeing an increasingly unfriendly France - and being warmly welcomed in Montreal: “We are flourishing with our Jewish identity  able to live it fully”. As the “people of the book” leave France in this modern day Exodus, it is a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Welcome to Bible in the News, this is David Billington with you.

Hello, this is Paul Billington presenting another edition of The Bible in the News. Israel is always in the News - at least that has been the case since the modern nation of Israel was established in 1948, and even before that there was the migration of Jews to the land of Palestine leading to the Balfour Declaration, and then to the British Mandate following the First World War. Whenever Israel is in the news today this background can never be lost sight of.

The American-Iranian Nuclear deal has brought strong criticism from Israel and the Arab states. Israel sees it as a threat to its existence. One of the outcomes has been the development of closer ties between the Arab states, answering to "Sheba and Dedan" of Ezekiel, and also the development of better relationships with Israel.
