Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Daniel Billington with you commenting on the anticipated referendum to decide whether or not Britain should exit from the EU, an increasingly hot topic especially in Britain! The last few weeks we have seen increasingly dramatic headlines on a British exit (i.e. Brexit).

When one comes to the book of Daniel and chapter 11 Daniel is given a prophecy of what would take place after Cyrus, and then after Alexander the Great.  The prophecy then focuses on two of the Alexander’s successors, the Ptolemies and the Seleucids which are termed the King of the North and the King of the South.  The prophecy is so accurate that critics have tried to say that it must have been written after the fact!

Israel has become the focus of United Nations condemnation during the past year, while ISIL, Syria and Iran have barely mentioned by the UNGA. A spirit of madness is gripping the nations, a madness that will bring them down to the battle of Armageddon. 

This week the major news outlets reported the pope’s Christmas message - his "message of peace”. The Israeli Ynet news site had the headline: “Pope calls for peace in Israel in Christmas address”. The lead in to the story read: “Pope Francis focuses on peace and condemns Islamist militant atrocities in his annual Christmas message.”

One hundred years ago, this week, the 6th of the McMahon-Hussein letters was sent.  This was a series of ten letters [1], between Henry McMahon, British High Commissioner of Egypt and Hussein bin Ali, Sharif of Mecca.  Hussein began the exchange with a demand for a great Arab kingdom (see map).  In exchange Hussein promised to unite the Arabs in support of Britain’s battle against the Turks, in Arabia, Iraq & Syria – the battle to dry up the great river Euphrates (Rev 16v12).  McMahon, with certain caveats, accepted.However, only four months later, in May 1916, Britain also made a deal with France, the Sykes-Picot Agreement [2].  This Anglo-French agreement divided Hussein’s proposed kingdom into two spheres of influence (“a” and “b”); one for 

It’s that time of year again when many people begin to think about the birth of Jesus Christ. Hymns and carols are sung about this great event and parents and grandparents attend nativity plays. But who was Jesus Christ and why was he so important? Depending on who you ask about this you might get different responses. The atheist might reply by saying that Jesus was nothing more than a man who taught and lived a good life. A church theologian might respond by saying that Jesus was in fact God Himself, a part of a Trinity.

"Incredible Archaeological find brings Bible to Life” was the heading of the lead news story on Israel National News on December 2. To find any king’s personal seal from 2700 years ago would be incredible, but to find the seal of Hezekiah king of Judah is not only incredible, it also has great significance for us and today’s world. As the world continues to reel from the Paris attacks America has fumbled the Middle-East ball for the American team, and Putin has intercepted and picked it up for Russia. Germany has pledged itself to become involved militarily in with France in the Middle East. Turkey has poked the Russian bear by shooting down a Russian fighter plane, and Israel, although the greatest victim of terror has been condemned by the UN. 

While Britain discusses leaving the EU, Canada withdraws planes from Syria, and America won't put boots on the ground, France and Europe look to strengthen their relationships with Russia in the battle in the Middle East.

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Paul Billington on Saturday morning, November 14th, and the news has just come through reporting terrorist attacks in France."The Islamic State terror group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the co-ordinated shootings and bombings across Paris" announces Britain's Express newspaper. "At least 149 people are said to have been slaughtered in the French capital" said the paper (November 14, 2015).

At the time of this Bible in the news it’s bonfire night here in the UK. A time to watch firework displays, play with sparklers and of course huddle around a bonfire. The night air is thick with smoke and the sound of loud explosions. Flashes light up the dark sky and glints of fireworks can be seen in every direction from time to time. But what is the meaning of this night which is celebrated up and down the land of Great Britain?

Events in the Middle East continue to move quickly as the region is being reshaped in a dramatic manner, moving towards the situation described by the Hebrew prophets many centuries ago and expected by students of Bible prophecy. For Bible in the News this week we will consider a number of interconnected events in the Middle East. 

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Paul Billington commenting on Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu's statement last week linking Adolf Hitler with the wartime Palestinian Arab leader, the Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini, and the Holocaust. Not surprisingly his comments drew a sharp response from President Barack Hussein Obama (to give him his full name) of the United States because Netanyahu's statement was, he said, "inflammatory rhetoric."

The plan to internationalize Jerusalem has come to the surface again in the wake of horrific violence against Jews in Israel. The Vatican has long been behind this plan, and we see it being resurrected today. Eventually this will be one of the stimuli that brings the nations down into Jerusalem - but only to be destroyed as God sets up his Holy Temple on Mt. Zion once again.

Things are heating up in the Middle East as Russian activity increases. Many of the players mentioned in latter day Bible prophecy are being positioned into their roles as the Bible predicted thousands of years ago. This is Matt Davies joining you for another Bible in the news.

The recent cold blooded murder of two Jewish parents, in front of their four children is both horrific and shocking - to those who know it happened. It was easy to miss. To find the news on most large news websites outside of Israel, you have to search for it. A search for the last name of the couple on the large American news website CNN has zero results! Searches found 1 result on the UK Telegraph and 1 on the UK Guardian. The European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs on Friday released a condolence statement and said "restraint and calm are needed on all sides”. No mention of bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The world is in shock that Russian forces are moving into Syria... the Bible clearly states the situation that will develop in the next little while.The power-blocks are moving into place setting the stage for the long anticipated return of Christ.

As the discovery was unlike anything made before it was decided that a new species of human ancestor has been found, the anthropologist’s lead by Lee Berger are calling it Homo naledi.  The discovery was made in South Africa deep down in a cave and in fact over 1550 specimens were found from apparently 15 individuals.  All sounds rather exciting doesn't it!  Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News, although on this subject the Bible is not getting a whole lot of coverage if we are honest!

Egypt has been going through civil turmoil in recent years. However an amazing discovery reveals that it is being positioned exactly where Bible prophecy says it will be in the time just before Jesus returns. Welcome to another Bible in the News.
