Gerad shares his experiences of growing up and being around his Dad's incredible coaching career; and how it continues to impact him to this day. He also shares his memories of his stellar hoops prowess, which led to a memorable career at the University of Sioux Falls. In this episode, I had the privilege of sitting down with South Dakota Hall of Fame Coach VanLeur to go over his remarkable coaching career in Emery. We talk about the milestones of his 40+ year career: from the early years in the 80's, to the '93 team that made the first playoff run; and the first title team in 2001. Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! Especially to my Dad, Terry Janssen. I sat down with my Dad on a recent trip home to discuss his formative years growing up in Emery, and when basketball and baseball first became a thing in his life. Very proud to get to hear my Dad's story of incredible resilience, and share it on The Town Mile. Thanks for listening.

The Town Mile Podcast is joined by Texas Christian University Asst. head basketball coach Ryan Miller. Ryan shares his basketball journey starting in Mitchell, SD and playing for the late, great Gary Munsen as a Mitchell Kernel. We talked about his legendary '98 performance at Frost Arena, his coaching career, and the tremendous pride he has for his younger brother Mike. One of the best Twitter follows there is, Jack Silverstein @readjack joined us tonight to give us some high-level insight on the 72-10 Chicago Bulls of 1996. Jack wrote a great book called "How The Goat Was Built: 6 Life Lessons From the 1996 Chicago Bulls", and linked up with us for our 16th episode. He's an absolute Chicago sports encyclopedia, and was great to have him join and drop some knowledge.

It's Memorial Day Weekend!! Before heading to the beach, our main man Justin Ross joined us via satellite to drop some knowledge of ocean sustainability. He is the founder of KnOcean Life, a dedicated cause to help protect mother earth's beautiful ocean waters. It's the first ever episode we've done via phone, so it took us a few seconds to get it rolling at the beginning.
