Impromptu Movie Night

In honor of Pixar's 17th feature film, Finding Dory, we have decided to take on the entire Pixar canon! Listen as we share our thoughts on the studio's first 16 films in chronological order, starting with 1995's Toy Story and concluding with 2015's The Good Dinosaur.

In a summer loaded with disappointing sequels, we are pleasantly surprised to report that James Wan's Conjuring 2 is a great followup to the 2013 original. In honor of this film, we bring on special guest Seth Beaugh to talk all things paranormal - so we talk about ghosts, demons, cursed properties, possessions, exorcisms, so on and so forth! We break down both Conjuring movies, and we discuss several others including Ghost, The Exorcist, The Witch, Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project, and more!

Seeing as how Andy Samberg is continuing his rise in Hollywood thanks to Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, we figured that this would be a great time to talk about movies featuring Saturday Night Live alumni! In addition to sharing our thoughts on Popstar, we also cover Samberg's original comedy vehicle, Hot Rod, as well as older favorites such as Wayne's World, So I Married An Axe Murderer, Tommy Boy, Trading Places, Vacation, and many more. In honor of The Nice Guys, we have decided to tackle the surprisingly rich topic of buddy cops!  Along with special guest Jacob Schatz, we discuss writer/director Shane Black's fascination with the genre, comedies such as 21 Jump Street, sci-fi such as Men In Black, classics such as Lethal Weapon, and more.  Additionally, we get quite a kick out of what Roger Ebert calls "Wunza" movies (one's a this; one's a that).  Enjoy!

Summer is upon us, and you know what that means... here come the franchises, sequels, and reboots.  For this week's episode, we share our thoughts on all of the ones getting released during the summer of 2016.  First, we review Captain America: Civil War - then, we move through the next few months chronologically, speculating as to how great or how awful each of these films might be.  This includes Neighbors 2, Alice Through the Looking Glass, X-Men: Apocalypse, The Conjuring 2, Finding Dory, Independence Day: Resurgence, Ghostbusters, Jason Bourne, and more.  Enjoy!

The world was recently shaken by the loss of yet another music legend: Prince.  We were lucky enough to attend a very special screening of Purple Rain on the night of his death - and in honor of the late, great Prince, we decided to tackle movies about musicians.  We start off with Purple Rain, but then we open the discussion up to include films like 8 Mile, Straight Outta Compton, Ray, Walk the Line, Inside Llewyn Davis, Frank, and more!

We couldn't put it off any longer... The time has finally come for us to talk about... STAR WARS!  For this week's episode, we are joined again by special guests Rob Luckfield and Jayson Niner to break down Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as determine its place among the other six films in this epic saga.

We noticed that this year alone, there have already been at least four great films about people being trapped in a confined space, so for this week's episode, we break them all down.  Then, we open up the discussion to talk about some of our all-time favorite films about being stuck in one place - featuring The Invitation, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Green Room, 12 Angry Men, Die Hard, and a few surprises!

In light of the highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we decided to tackle superhero films this week!  To borrow a format from John Rocha and Matt Knost's podcast called "The Top Ten Show," we went our separate ways, came up with individual Top Ten lists of superhero films, and reveal them to one another over the course of the episode! Did your favorite superhero film make the list?

In honor of Zootopia, we decided to tackle Disney animation this week!  Join us as we move backwards in time, starting with their excellent recent output, then reminiscing about the Disney Renaissance that we grew up in during the 1990s, and finally discussing some older classics, many of which are now being remade into live-action films - for better or for worse.

The Oscars are upon us! For this week's episode, we are joined by two very special guests - Rob Luckfield and Jayson Niner - as we break down this year's Academy Award nominations. We share our thoughts on all eight Best Picture nominees, debate the acting awards, and predict winners for all 24 categories.
