As Americans living in the explosive growth of faster and faster gratification, the call of this Psalm to "wait" can be especially grating. But this isn't the benign checkout queue. We wait on the Lord with anticipation. With hope. And with activity. The tension of what the world is and what it should be can be immense. It won't be solved all at once. But still your heart. Sin is that which separates us from God. To the ancient Jewish people, it presented as uncleanliness; a barrier to approaching the presence of God. Today it might look a bit more like prejudice. While it may seem obvious in those terms that it isn’t one group’s, how does that square with the culture of the American church? We are guilty over and over again of pressing our models of culture and believe onto others and calling it righteousness. That this world would be improved by imposition and hate. Psalm 24 reminds us that the world is the Lord’s. And false gods do not stand in for Yahweh. Sometimes that includes systems and behaviors we may recognize within our own communities. How can we turn the focus back to our loving Creator? And how much better can we make the world as a result? Resurrected -- Acts 2:28-40 On the day of Pentecost and the Holy Ghost fills the disciples, Simon Peter points to the prophet Joel and his words on how God's power will come to all people, and that we should "repent and be baptized" to be forever changed and surrendered to God.
