On Baptism Sunday, Adrian explores how baptism is a sign that we have moved home - and is therefore an invitation to celebrate! His talk is based on Romans 6:1-3, from the Message: "So what do we do? Keep on sinning so God can keep on forgiving? I should hope not! If we’ve left the country where sin is sovereign, how can we still live in our old house there? Or didn’t you realize we packed up and left there for good? That is what happened in baptism. When we went under the water, we left the old country of sin behind; when we came up out of the water, we entered into the new country of grace—a new life in a new land!"

In this talk, Adrian unpacks how baptism is a moment of celebrating a sign, receiving a seal, and being clothed.

It is not simply the ‘build up to Christmas’, as if we pretend Jesus has not yet been born and then celebrate his birth. Rather, it is ‘forward leaning’ and engages with the unseen forces at work in the world, facing the darkness, embracing the light, and encouraging us in how to wait patiently whatever situations we are living with. In this second talk, Rich looks at two names that are given to the promised saviour: Jesus, and Immanuel.
