In the Himalayas, in the Greater Tibetan world - the lands outside of Chinese occupied Tibet, which have Tibetan include cultures - Buddhism is the main spiritual practice, but before Buddhism came there the lands were shamanistic, and shamanism - often with a veneer of Buddhism - still exists.Padmasambhava was an C8th Buddhist teacher born in Pakistan, who trained with both Buddhist lamas and no-Buddhist shamans, and travelled all over Pakistan, India and Nepal.
