This 1995 dissertation is the first time in the illustrious 14 year history of The Katherine Massey Book Club that we will read a non-book. Dr. Beckles conducted an extraordinary amount of research and produced several reports documenting the import of black bookstores and the intense Racism targeting them around the world. Washington state's The Columbian reports that Clara Johnson worked for Share, a "provider of homeless and rental support services." She alleges that her black supervisor cautioned her about working too constructively with her black colleagues. In addition to being isolated, Johnson was forced to work 17 consecutive days - with one of those shifts being a "double." The Context of White Supremacy Welcomes Dr. Nicholas Caverly. Classified as a White Man, Caverly is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He’s an “anthropologist of technology interested in the intersections of racism, space, and justice,” and his research uses “ethnographic and archival methods to investigate political ecologies of racial capital—especially white power and anti-blackness.” We’ll review his December 2025 publication, Demolishing Detroit: How Structural Racism Endures. Classified as a White Woman, Dr. Phillippo is an Associate Professor of Cultural and Educational Policy Studies and Social Work, School of Education at Chicago Loyola University. Her “scholastic work centers youth and educator experience of education policy and practice, and contextual influences upon these experiences. This week we review how City of Fresno Code Enforcement employee La-Kebbia “Kiki” Wilson was awarded $15 million after suing her employer for retaliation and Racism in the workplace. She was allegedly called a "lazy" and "entitled niggra." When Wilson cursed in frustration about her mistreatment, she was branded an "aggressive" black female. Although the jury did award Ms. Wilson millions of dollars, this case may be subject to appeal and it took nearly six years to get to this point. "Aspiring" meaning Gus suspect Mr. Kaufmann ambitions to be accepted and/or remain classified as a White Man in the System of White Supremacy. An assistant professor of law at Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, Dr. Thairi's examines international law and issue of justice. We'll discuss her recently published report, 'Extrajudicial killings in Venezuela: confronting the legacy of racism and poverty through transitional justice.'
