We all experience rejection from time to time. Some forms of rejection can be more difficult than others especially where family or friends are involved. Rejection can be painful and can have a huge impact on our lives and our relationships with others. How do we overcome the impact that rejection has on our lives? She is a public theologian, acclaimed author, and consultant. Through her non-profit organization—Freed Hearts—Susan champions the LGBTQI community and families with her authenticity and tender-hearted zeal. She spent 20+ years in the Evangelical church, has a Master of Arts in Theological Studies, and served as the VP of PFLAG Austin. Jesus said in John 10:9"9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."Jesus gave his life for us so that we would not only be saved but that we would find freedom. Jesus says, I am the door. He is the door to freedom in our lives. Freedom to no longer pretend, freedom from perfection, freedom from unforgiveness and freedom from fear. In Christ we are free to be our true authentic imperfect self. This message touches on how the zeal of the Pharisees was perverted by pride. Leaders, even the greatest theologians get it wrong sometimes. During passion week we see how the leaders, the ones who were supposed to have understood Jesus coming as the rescue they had longed for missed the mark completely. John's Gospel tells us that the Word of God was with God in the beginning and then the Word became flesh. How wonderful to know that Jesus, the living Word now lives in us through the Spirit. This means that as we are led by God all of God's words are available to us...to encourage, and strengthen, to guide and protect us. Melbourne Inclusive Church heard this week how all of Heaven rejoices when even one person comes to Christ. What celebration is complete without bubbles! As a prophetic act we prayed that every bubble would represent a person in our community who would know without a doubt that God loves them...what better day than Transgender Day of Visibility! We can talk about the power of God. We can tell people what God has done for us. People will be encourage by our words. But as James explains our actions speak louder than words. Jesus said that in order to be a great follower we must become servants. Demonstrating the love of God for someone blesses them and reveals more about the nature of God than our words could ever convey. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28-30 28 (NLT) "Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”What comfort we can find knowing that we don't have to be driven to perfection as the world prescribes, but rather we can be led our Lord who does all the heavy lifting on our behalf.
