In this sermon by Pastor Joe Still we look at Ephesians 2:11-22. Here we see God continue to carry out His plan, after the resurrection of Jesus, through His people that are known as the Church. Through Jesus, God has united both Jews and Gentiles into one Body as His people for His possession and His purposes. God calls the church to live out of their identity as a people united by God and for God. This unity serves as an apologetic of God's grace and goodness to the world. In this sermon, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and all of the wonder and glory of this miraculous event. God raised Jesus from the dead. This means that faith in Him is not futile! In fact, putting our total trust in Jesus and building our lives around His teachings is the only effective and hope-filled way to live in this increasingly challenging world. On this Sunday before we gather to celebrate the greatest day in history, EASTER, we open God’s Word to a defining moment in the earthly life of Jesus. Palm Sunday was the first time Jesus would publicly accept the title of King. However; He wouldn’t live out that role in the long-awaited, religiously-anticipated way. Jesus would be King, but He would be a different kind of King, ushering in an unanticipated method of ruling and reigning. Yes, He would come and crush His enemies. He would not do this from a position of power, but through a humility and self-sacrifice never before seen in all of human history. Instead of imposing His rule on anyone, He would extend to all the opportunity to personally choose to make Him their King. All who make that choice, Jesus then grants the right to become co-heirs with Him in His Glorious Kingdom! This morning we are privileged to have Dave Hardin open God’s Word to us. Dave is constantly commending books to me that he’s been reading about the Gospel of Jesus. It is a topic he is very passionate about! I’m looking forward to his leadership among us today. Dave will also be leading a team from Riverbluff back into Cuba this week. This morning we continue into our 6-week campaign to CONNECT with the whole message of the Gospel. We are learning to apply the Gospel of Jesus to every area of our lives. We’re learning to “preach the Gospel to ourselves” and to each other so that we’ll be even more effective at sharing the Gospel where we live, work, and play. Today we turn our attention to four simple “Taste-Tests” of the Gospel in our lives. This morning the invitation from the LORD is found in Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the LORD is good. At Riverbluff we believe the GOSPEL of JESUS CHRIST is the hope of the world and that HIS Church is the instrument through which God has chosen to display and proclaim that GOSPEL. From cover to cover the Bible is about the GOSPEL. Dave Harvey has stated that “Everything in Scripture is either preparation for the Gospel, presentation of the Gospel, or participation in the Gospel.” But what is the Gospel? Because many Christians are under the deceptive misconception that “the Gospel” is really only for the “lost” we are launching a 6-week intensive effort to equip ourselves in the “Whole-Gospel”. We want to make the GOSPEL of JESUS CHRIST EXPLICIT; first in our own lives and families, second in Riverbluff Church, and then where we live, work, and play! “The Gospel” will be our focus as we gather over the next six weeks to worship The ONE who is the GOSPEL. This morning we begin a verse-by-verse study of Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus, we’re entitling CONNECT. This letter, written from a Roman prison, is not aimed at correcting an error or heresy like several of Paul’s other letters. Instead, Ephesians connects us to the riches, to the abundance, and the fullness we have “in Christ”. It reveals our inheritance, telling us what we own “in Christ”. Today we join with brothers and sisters all across our country to celebrate the Sanctity of Life. We have rapidly devolved into a society of “Retail Relationships” (ditching relationships requiring sacrifice in pursuit of those more useful than costly). This stands against GOD’s declaration that HE created every human being in HIS image, “in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 (NLT) This means there are no gradations in the image of God. In terms of gifting, resources, and opportunity, everyone is different. In terms of dignity and value, everyone is the same. As Francis Schaeffer once said, ‘There are no little people.’ GOD’s creation declaration demands that no one is ignorable or disposable. Every person, whether a Nobel Prize recipient or a child with special needs, is a carrier of an everlasting soul. Today we celebrate every life and the GIVER of Life!
