  • Ep. 261 - Batman Beyond - Inqueling

    20/05/2023 Duração: 01h22min

Never fear, the Good Brothers are here once again with a brand new review as they continue in their return to the future of the DCAU and a discussion about the Batman Beyond Season 3 episode "Inqueling." As the title suggests this episode features the return of Terry's most memorable villains in Inque. Inque is unable to hold herself together (literally) and the surprise backstory to the character that leads to a discussion by the hosts about whether adding humanity to a villainous character automatically makes them sympathetic. Cal & Liam also talk about the little bread crumbs that would eventually lead to one of the most controversial plot points in DCAU history (#KeepEpilogueASecret) - the hosts also talk about their enjoyment of the unbound visuals that accompany Inque in her episodes, where this episode ranks in the "Inque Trilogy" and how an inverted Beyond musical number communicates emotion in the final battle. Plus the hosts talk about a voice cast that doesn't featur

  • Ep. 260 - The Zeta Project - Shadows

    13/05/2023 Duração: 01h03min

Cal and Liam are once again asking you to listen to a review of The Zeta Project but this time with extra incentive as they review the episode "Shadows" which features a crossover with the future Dark Knight of Batman Beyond. The hosts discuss the choice of how the first 10 minutes of the episode are spent, as well as the lackluster introduction of our special guest stars. The Good Brothers also discuss the difference the AI HD Upscale versions of the show make versus the generally available 480p, low definition versions. Additionally the hosts talk how Batman's appearance may have contributed to additional violence in the episode being permitted, Lolita Ritmanis's Beyond-ified soundtrack and how Kevin Conroy's voice performance in this episode led to a historic set of firsts for the DCAU. All of this and much more await along with a preview of next week's review on this week's episode of the DCAU Review! Please Consider Supporting the Podcast: Subscribe to the DCAU Review

  • Ep. 259 - Batman Beyond - Untouchable

    06/05/2023 Duração: 01h07min

The Good Brothers return to the future once again as they kick off the month with a review of the Batman Beyond Season 3 episode "Untouchable." Jumping right into the plot, Cal points out how familiar the plot points are when compared to other DCAU stories, and both hosts bemoan the continued characterization of Terry as a dirtbag boyfriend. While the animation does feature some interesting visuals, including the effect overlay of the Repeller's suit, discussion is had regarding one scene with inconsistent cel shading, how Batman chooses which rebreather to use and Blüdhaven's appearance. The hosts also talk about the late great Shirley Walkers use of the Beyond theme to punctuate the action as well as a surprising "one and done" acting job for one of the cast members. 29/04/2023 Duração: 01h43min

The Good Brothers are taking a trip around the Multiverse for their 5th Saturday of the month as they review the 2012 Direct-to-video film Superman vs. The Elite. The film, which is an adaptation of Action Comics Issue 775, features a plot that needed to be expanded to meet the needs of a feature length run time which means the hosts take a little extra time discussing it which leads to a longer than normal episode of the pod. When discussing the plot they compare and contrast the additions not found in the original issue, while also noting the difficulties of adapting comics into animation. They also talk about the temptation to project human faults on the Superman character, why it needs to stop and how the character's innate goodness differs from any real life heroes we see in the world. Cal & Liam also tackle the unique character designs and animation style of the movie, the movie quality soundtrack and the immense voice cast which features more than a few DCAU crossovers! All of this and much muc

    22/04/2023 Duração: 01h07min

The Good Brothers wind down another stay in Dakota with a review of Season Two's episode "Pop's Girlfriend" which sees a familiar sitcom-style trope of Virgil's Dad Robert venturing out into the dating pool, only to discover that things have a way of being complicated when it comes to your kids being accepting of the idea. The host discuss the subplot of racial profiling and whether they feel like it's done in a way that's as effective as some of the other real-world topics discussed on other episodes of Static Shock. Cal & Liam also talk about a brand new animation studio that arrives on the scene with mixed results, major plot holes involving two of the episodes' antagonists, and more outstanding voice acting from two of our series regulars and much more. • Ep. 256 - Static Shock - Winds of Change

    15/04/2023 Duração: 57min

Hold on to your hats, because the Good Brothers are reviewing their final Season One episode of Static Shock appropriately titled "Winds of Change." The hosts do their best to break down the plot that covers a familiar drama trope of "what would happen if the best friend heroes fought?!?" and added in a dash of "what if Fat Albert was an evil Bang Baby with the powers of the wind?!?" The result is a fun episode with the origins of one of the items in Static's arsenal and a goofy villain whose theme song is described as "Circus Hip-hop." Cal & Liam also discuss a smaller voice cast but one that requires a chemistry showcase from the leads and of course a preview of next week's episode all await you on this week's DCAU Review Please Consider Supporting the Podcast: Subscribe to the DCAU Review on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts and please consider leaving us a 5-star review Subscribe to The Podtower on YouTub

The Good Brothers are back home safe and sound int the DCAU-proper after a brief multiversal anomaly in last week's episode, with another review of Static Shock and this week's season 2 episode "Sunspots." The hosts also discuss the purpose/need for "Zap-caps", Cal comes to grips with the Static style of music and much more fun all on this week's DCAU Review! It's the Good Brothers special April Fools day episode as their "What If..." scenario has solidified itself as an annual tradition. Once again the hosts find themselves in the loosely connected Marvel Animated Universe of the 90s with the sentimental favorite Incredible Hulk crossover episode "Helping Hand, Iron Fist." Hear Cal & Liam share their nostalgic memories from the first time they saw this episode, the mystery of how this show ended up on the UPN network and why they love a good Tony Stark mullet. Other topics covered include the Lou Ferrigno's performance as the Hulk, poor sound mixing, the heroes' killer theme songs and the Rick Jones character as an identifiable hero for young viewers to appreciate. Plus the hosts compare the MCU and MAU's take on the Hulk's strength, the appearance of the Hulkbuster suit and the DCAU voicecast crossovers and connections. The hosts take their time looking at the layered plot that both acknowledges the past and the present with threads pulled from Superman: The Animated Series whilst continuing the present story of intrigue and holding those with the most power accountable for their actions. While the plot carries most of the episode, Cal & Liam do discuss the few action sequences and how a faceless hero's descent into madness is portrayed. Music also plays an important part in several of the big scenes, as does the vocal performances with their differing styles of acting in this dialogue driven episode. The visuals are broken down with discussions of Bruce's many wardrobe changes, a sepia toned finale and the somewhat out of place, undead Egyptian Goddess that is revealed in the final act. Plus the hosts talk about the soundtrack which is asked to carry the first scene on its own and a voice cast that features a Star Trek reunion!
