Ep. 152 - BTAS - The Man Who Killed Batman
03/04/2021 Duração: 57minIt's not an April Fool's joke, the month of April is here and that means the Good Brothers are on to another month of reviews, this time returning to Batman: The Animated Series picking up where they last left off with the production order and the episode "The Man Who Killed Batman." Liam and Cal discuss this episode that usually ranks high on most people's lists of top BTAS episodes of all time. Hear them discuss a plot out of the zany, dark-humored mind of Paul Dini with directing and partial storyboards by Bruce Timm that has almost no Batman screen time, another legendary voice performance by Mark Hamill that includes his favorite monologue of the series, and a scene that made one of the hosts jump out of their seat with excitement. Plus an organ-heavy soundtrack from Shirley Walker and a great story about Arleen Sorkin's kazoo performance! All of this, a preview of next week's episode, and an update on the fan poll for inducting an episode into the Top Picks section on this week's all-new DCAU Review! C

Ep. 151 - JLU - The Doomsday Sanction
27/03/2021 Duração: 01h08minAfter a pitstop for last week's 150th episode, The Good Brothers return to wrap up the month of Match with another entry into the Justice League Unlimited Cadmus story-arc with "The Doomsday Sanction." Join the hosts as they discuss a plot that redeems an underutilized Doomsday, who was originally featured on the Justice League episode "A Better World." Hear the hosts discuss whether or not the return of this major tentpole character was justified, the tendency of the series producers to subvert expectations with some important characters, why Dr. Milo's return seemed a bit out of place, why this episode could've flourished with a second part to it, and visuals that wow but are held back by the return of the terrible, no-good CGI. Plus a pair of musical cues that steal the show and another all-star voice cast that features some more fantastic work from multiple performers. Hear the hosts discuss a plot taken straight out of a Clint Eastwood drama, visuals that dazzle and captivate, albeit with a bit of inconsistency. Ep. 148 - JLU - Dark Heart
06/03/2021 Duração: 01h07minMarch is here and that means as the calendar page turns, Cal & Liam switch series, returning to cover Justice League Unlimited and the episode "Dark Heart." This seminal episode lays the groundwork for some of the larger plot points used for the Cadmus arc that would define the #JLU, but this week the Good Brothers discuss a plot that asks the question "just what IS nanotechnology anyway?" Hear the hosts talk action that at the time seemed grand but now looks a lot like every superhero blockbuster, more out-of-place CGI, some wonky character models, and some of Batman's new toys. Plus how the JLU greenlit episodes that focused on C-List level heroes, a pair of really solid voice performances from two very recognizable guest voice actors, and why the episode may be in line to be canceled in the future. All of that, a complete scorecard, a new special guest intro to the pod and a preview of next week's episode on this week's DCAU Review! Ep. 147 - Batman Beyond - Sneak Peek
27/02/2021 Duração: 01h06minAnother month rounds out but not before The Good Brothers participate in one more review of Batman Beyond with this week's episode "Sneak Peek." Cal and Liam discuss the tension built with a potential reveal of both of the Batmen's secret identity, what works with the plot while critiquing some less than clear manifestations of the antagonist's powers, a Terry moment that echoes very much a Bruce-like response to failure, a villain that is visually interesting but whose accent invokes a famous political giant in the USA. Plus Bruce's commentary on politicians and journalists, Teri Garr's deadpan delivery makes a lasting impression, and was Bruce acting out of character in the climax of this episode? All of this and much more discussed on this week's DCAU Review! Ep. 146 - Batman Beyond - Armory
20/02/2021 Duração: 57minAs we continue with our month of Batman Beyond reviews, we come to an oft-forgotten episode titled "Armory" which asks the age-old question, "What would you do to keep your lavish lifestyle intact, after losing your job due to corporate downsizing?" Okay, so maybe that's not that much of an age-old question, but never fear because the Good Brothers are here to answer it anyway! Hear Cal and Liam discuss a plot complete with outdated technology and gender roles, what would make the average person go from zero to treason in no time, featuring a main-baddie that doesn't talk which allows for action and music to be brought to the forefront. Plus the hosts list the voice cast, making an argument for a surprising addition to the DCAU Mt. Rushmore of voice-actors, and discuss #MyWarMachine(?!?) making his voice heard as Armory. All of this, more talk about Terry forgetting the suit's invisibility, and much more on this week's all-new DCAU Review! This week's scorecards: Plot: Cal: 6/10 – Liam: 6/10 Visuals/An

Ep. 145 - Batman Beyond - The Last Resort
13/02/2021 Duração: 54minEpisode 145 of the DCAU Review is here and the Good Brothers are continuing to review Batman Beyond with the next episode "The Last Resort." Cal and Liam discuss the message behind this plot which focuses on a cult-like leader's choice to abuse teenagers through an internment camp-like facility. The hosts talk about a variety of ways the story might have been more effective, the logic of Terry not using the invisibility function on his suit, Terry's odd physical interaction with Chelsea, another inductee to the "Worst Dads in the DCAU" club, and a pair of voice performances from two actors from a pair of the most popular sitcoms of the last 40 years. Additionally, the hosts discuss why the biggest threat of the episode went unexplored, Bruce's limited appearance for the second straight week, and preview next week's episode on this week's DCAU Review! Ep. 144 - Batman Beyond - Final Cut
06/02/2021 Duração: 01h10minThe Good Brothers kick off the shortest month of the year with a return to the future and a month of Batman Beyond reviews. Kicking things off this month is the resolution to the Curare character's story with the episode "Final Cut." Hear the hosts talk about some similarities to a recently covered episode of Batman: The Animated Series, what James Tucker did that changed Curare's arc forever, a music callback to "Rebirth" and trying to pinpoint one character's unique accent. Plus, praise for one excellent sequence that would fit in any version of the Dark Knight, Max as Batman's partner, speculation as to why one notable voice was cast as a character without dialogue and the hosts share their thoughts on whether the ending is satisfying for the Curare character or not. Plus, a complete scorecard and much more await you on this week's DCAU Review! This month they return to the Silver Age world of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Cal and Liam review the episode "Triumvirate of Terror" which features a team-up of both the DC Trinity as well as their fiendish foes in Lex Luthor, The Joker, and Cheetah. Joining the hosts is yet another Special Guest Correspondent, this time in the form of a Superman expert as Nathan MacKenzie from Superman: The Animated Podcast joins the show to review the memorable season 2 episode of Superman: The Animated Series titled "Livewire." Hear Cal and Liam talk with Nathan, who broadcasts from the Land Down Under and does his own reviews of the Man of Steel, about the introduction of the villainous femme fatale known as Livewire. Hear them discuss a plot that features a very 90s plot around a loudmouth and former shock-jock that gains superpowers through a lightning storm. Plus, Bernie Sanders’ uncredited cameo, vocal performances from DC Animated veterans and the hosts preview next week’s final episode of 2020 while taking a minute to thank them for making this year their most successful to date.
