It's not an April Fool's joke, the month of April is here and that means the Good Brothers are on to another month of reviews, this time returning to Batman: The Animated Series picking up where they last left off with the production order and the episode "The Man Who Killed Batman." Liam and Cal discuss this episode that usually ranks high on most people's lists of top BTAS episodes of all time. Hear them discuss a plot out of the zany, dark-humored mind of Paul Dini with directing and partial storyboards by Bruce Timm that has almost no Batman screen time, another legendary voice performance by Mark Hamill that includes his favorite monologue of the series, and a scene that made one of the hosts jump out of their seat with excitement. Plus an organ-heavy soundtrack from Shirley Walker and a great story about Arleen Sorkin's kazoo performance! After a pitstop for last week's 150th episode, The Good Brothers return to wrap up the month of Match with another entry into the Justice League Unlimited Cadmus story-arc with "The Doomsday Sanction." Join the hosts as they discuss a plot that redeems an underutilized Doomsday, who was originally featured on the Justice League episode "A Better World." Hear the hosts discuss whether or not the return of this major tentpole character was justified, the tendency of the series producers to subvert expectations with some important characters, why Dr. Milo's return seemed a bit out of place,  why this episode could've flourished with a second part to it, and visuals that wow but are held back by the return of the terrible, no-good CGI. March is here and that means as the calendar page turns, Cal & Liam switch series, returning to cover Justice League Unlimited and the episode "Dark Heart." This seminal episode lays the groundwork for some of the larger plot points used for the Cadmus arc that would define the #JLU, but this week the Good Brothers discuss a plot that asks the question "just what IS nanotechnology anyway?" Hear the hosts talk action that at the time seemed grand but now looks a lot like every superhero blockbuster, more out-of-place CGI, some wonky character models, and some of Batman's new toys. Plus how the JLU greenlit episodes that focused on C-List level heroes, a pair of really solid voice performances from two very recognizable guest voice actors, and why the episode may be in line to be canceled in the future. Cal and Liam discuss the tension built with a potential reveal of both of the Batmen's secret identity, what works with the plot while critiquing some less than clear manifestations of the antagonist's powers, a Terry moment that echoes very much a Bruce-like response to failure, a villain that is visually interesting but whose accent invokes a famous political giant in the USA. On the next Discuss This League... From the creators of the DCAU Review, a new feature is birthed where you'll get to hear various content creators debate various topics in a fun roundtable format! Kicking things off, Volume 1 of the Discuss This League is a discourse on the recent news regarding a potential Batman: The Animated Series revival for the HBO Max streaming service. This inaugural panel features three major players in the DCAU content community discussing their thoughts on this very exciting but controversial topic. The panel includes The DCAU Review's own host and all-around Good Brother Liam. Alongside Liam is Timm Talk's (aka the only podcast to review the DCAU in chronological order) Chris Lord and joining both of them from the behemoth DCAU YouTube Channel Watchtower Database and curator of the DCAU timeline, Mattie Washburn joins the program. As we continue with our month of Batman Beyond reviews, we come to an oft-forgotten episode titled "Armory" which asks the age-old question, "What would you do to keep your lavish lifestyle intact, after losing your job due to corporate downsizing?" Okay, so maybe that's not that much of an age-old question, but never fear because the Good Brothers are here to answer it anyway! Hear Cal and Liam discuss a plot complete with outdated technology and gender roles, what would make the average person go from zero to treason in no time, featuring a main-baddie that doesn't talk which allows for action and music to be brought to the forefront. This month they return to the Silver Age world of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Cal and Liam review the episode "Triumvirate of Terror" which features a team-up of both the DC Trinity as well as their fiendish foes in Lex Luthor, The Joker, and Cheetah.
