The 27 Club is the name given to the long list of rock stars and pop stars who have died aged 27. Is it a real thing ? Are rockstars more likely to die aged 27 ? Juliane Koepcke was flying home over the Peruvian jungle with her mother on Christmas eve 1971. The airplane encountered a violent thunderstorm and was struck by lightning. The plane broke apart and Juliane fell 2.5 miles to the jungle floor below. Unbelievable she survived but wasn’t out of the woods yet, she now had the jungle to deal with. On the April 11, 1970, at 13.13pm, Apollo 13 launched from the Kenndey Space Center, Florida, in an effort to become mankinds 3rd mission to the lunar surface. On the 12 of February 1993, 2-year-old James Bulger was abducted from the Strand Shopping Center in Bootle, Liverpool by two 10-year-old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables. What occurred in the next 3 hours destroyed many lives and shocked the world. In 1978 a pilot named Fred Valentich was flying to King Island off the south coast of Australia when he encountered something strange. He described to air traffic control an unknown aircraft that was "playing" with him. During the recorded conversation, Fred and his aircraft disappeared never to be seen again. On the 11 March 2011 at 2.46pm, a huge earthquake, a magnitude 9, struck off the coast of Japan. The resulting Tsunami struck land devastating everything in its path. 22,500 people died. Whole communities were wiped out. Massive amounts of damage occurred at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant causing several meltdowns and to this day, huge amounts of radioactive water are pouring into the ocean, with devastating effects on the environment.
