Mark talks about todays teens being over exposed, lacking real connections, gender confusion, and other topics that help parents know the culture our teens are living in.

This is the audio from that class. Mark gives practical advice on raising teens in the current culture they are growing up in.

Our culture is a dangerous place for marriages. As Christians living in a mostly secular world, we have to make extra efforts to protect our God- ordained life-time relationships from dangerous outside influences. Many very innocent actions and relationships can unintentionally do great harm to our marriages. Join us for Protecting Our Marriages where we will look at some important warnings and strategies to help.

Lists are helpful in defining persons we want to be like, including Christ. At the same time, corresponding lists describe the kind of people we don’t want to be. The Seven Deadly Sins are one such list. Envy stems from competitive pride and produces malice. Malice prevents us from loving like we should, which is terrible for the church. So we need to derive our identity, not from our stuff, but from the worth God gives us.

This week, we are hearing from Luke Guard & Jermaine Shorter, counselors who will team teach about those things that we don't address in life coming back to haunt us. Join us as we listen to those who deal with life issues. This class is for couples and any individuals wanting to grow in understanding.

We are blessed to have several outstanding counselors who are excellent teachers. These counselors were asked to talk to us about something present in their practice that they are passionate about. Dr. Kevin Shelby is an Assistant Professor in the counseling program at Harding School of Theology and in this podcast speaks to married couples about intimacy.

Some think the church is doomed, but not Jesus. Jesus is investing himself in the church, so that it can accomplish the purposes he gave to the church. While we at times prioritize other good things above the church (work, family), Jesus does not. His priority is the church. Can the same be said of us? Are we investing like Christ?

People are fascinated with heaven, though scripture does not tell us much about it. What we do find in Rev 21 is a guarantee that the sin, despair and suffering plaguing this earth will be no more in the new heaven and earth. This “ending” allows us to wait patiently—a virtue.

You and I have received the greatest blessing from the one who died on that cross for us. It is all a gift. So don't waste that gift. I beg you do not waste the gift of God's forgiveness. But don't for a second believe that you can earn it. It is a gift. It is the gift. And it is finished.

Christians see Jesus-"clues" in the Old Testament. The story of Exodus-deliverance and law-points to Jesus. But we tend to think law conflicts with freedom in Christ. It doesn't. God delivered Israel w/ a substitionary sacrifice, and instilled that pattern in the law. This pattern is what leads us to anticipate and appreciate the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus.

Domestic violence is serious, and demands the attention of serious believers. God cares for, and is defending victims of domestic violence through Agape. When we support Agape in protecting women and children, we witness to the Gospel of Jesus’ love for his church.

We are powerless. Powerlessness is our entry-point into the Gospel. Once there, we realize that so much depends on the resurrection. If Jesus was resurrected there is a source of power not limited by our powerlessness and darkness. So we take comfort in the resurrection, assured that the Jesus can find us in our darkness, and raise us by his power.

The message of scripture, is that we need someone to liberate us. To break us out of this cosmos. So here's the deal: We not only a need a liberator, we need a liberator from outside this world who can actually break the lock. Someone who can call into being things that were not. We need someone who deals in new creation.

Jesus was victorious over God's enemies at the cross. How? No one ever thought crosses could be victorious. But because the Powers are entangling us in a death grip, Jesus died to disarm and triumph over them. Still, we don't readily acknowledge that we needed this. We only acknowledge it when our sin finally becomes unbearable.

Saul probably would not have fit in at Highland. He is a crazy sinner. But one quickly realizes, like Ananias and Barnabas, that being a sinner makes Saul just like the rest of us. They welcome him. Similarly, we should be wary of our pride, and welcome others with the same willingness.
