Students from the Napa Valley College LGBT Studies program co-hosted the show as part of their capstone project and brought with them Public Health Nurse, Miranda Patrick, from the Sonoma County Department of Health Services. We talked about why women should be tested for HIV and updated everyone on how HIV is passed and how to prevent an infection. Next month we continue this update with a show devoted to removing the mystery and fear of the HIV testing process. We will conduct an actual HIV test and counseling session so you can hear from start to finish exactly how a test is conducted. And we promise, no needles involved. This is one of Tony’s and my favorite events of the year. Men and women from all over the United States spent a full-filled weekend touring wines, dancing under the stars at Chateau St. Jean Winery, and then enjoying a delicious brunch during which over $50,000 was raised during the live auction. Gary Saperstein from Out In The Vineyard, Meghan Murphy, programs director at Face to Face, and Steven Ghidinelli, vice-president of the board for Face to Face, talk about the event, the money raised, and what it will be used for. Gary gave us the history of Out In The Vineyard and shared some of the plans for future events. Ken was featured in the ABC mini-series, “When We Rise.” He served in the United States Navy and then came to San Francisco. As an African-American, Ken not only suffered from the pervasive homophobia of the 1950’s and 60’s, but also stark racism, even in the gay community. And if that wasn’t enough, the AIDS crisis hit his life hard in the 1980’s. Today, Ken Jones is an optimist with a wonderful smile and contagious laugh. 24/04/2017 Duração: 59minThis month we covered two stories about gay police officers who were fired from their job because they were gay. Both suffered harassment and discrimination. This month we talked with Officer Zach LeMire, a gay man, with a distinguished military career and who was hired by the Elk Grove Police Department after finishing at the top of his police academy class. Once word got out about Zach being gay, he suffered harassment, discrimination and retaliation by his peers and supervisors. He was fired just days before his probationary period was to end. Officer LeMire and his attorney, Lawrence Bohm share more of this story and talk about why gay men continue to be harassed in law enforcement. We begin talking with three members of the Russian River Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. They shared some of the history of the Sisters organization and talked about what’s planned for 2017. The Russian River Sisters are a vital part of the community, especially in west Sonoma County. They raise funds for many other non-profit groups and are always there to support LGBT events, including the annual pride celebration. The members are dedicated volunteers who continue to carry on the spirit left by those who founded the first order in San Francisco. We also talk with Dr. Timothy Seelig, the conductor and artistic director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. Next year the chorus will celebrate its 40th birthday!
