  • Keyframe 124 - Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle // One Piece

    12/09/2018 Duração: 01h03min

Hot Kaiju on Kaiju Action We’re short a few people short, but you can always rely on Tucky and Producer Rob to fill the airwaves with all sorts of animation-related anecdotes. This week we kick things off with our featured anime - Netflix’s Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle and a whole lot of One Piece (collections 17 and 18 to be exact). That nicely leads us into an interesting topic that started from one simple question: Do we need something to replace Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece?  If you've enjoyed this podcast, then please follow us on Twitter @KeyframePodcast or on other social media by searching for The Geek Show. • Keyframe 123 - Lupin III // The Incredibles 2 // Blame! // Yellow Submarine

    29/08/2018 Duração: 01h05min

A Natural Born Lever-Puller So the World Cup happened, and although it’s ostensibly a football event but given all the drinking that goes on it may as well be related to tea, coffee or any other beverage you’d care to mention. Because of that there wasn’t much happening in the world of animation - unless Japan’s successful run and the self-appointed Commissioner of Football’s reference to Captain Tsubasa sparks a wave of football anime in which case we’d like to see a continuation of Giant Killing please! Anyway, we’re here to talk about animation and this week we’ve got Lupin III Parts 4 and 5, The Incredibles 2, Blame!, and the classic Beatles movie Yellow Submarine. The Power of Friendship Compels You! Kicking things off this week is the news that Disney and Pixar are facing another copyright lawsuit involving Inside Out. • Keyframe 121 - Gundam Origin // My Hero Academia // Rokka

    30/07/2018 Duração: 49min

Giant Robot Punch-Up in Space Once upon a time there was a goose that laid golden eggs …  China and the wider South-East Asian region has their own literal version of that famous goose in the form of The Monkey King, and there are numerous movies, TV shows, books, songs, comics, video games, manga and anime that have found inspiration in classic tales like Journey To The West.   Now it’s the turn of director Stephen Chow to get in on the Monkey King action with his planned animated TV series that aims to open the the character up to a global audience.  After that it’s time for the serious business of anime, so Mark girds his loins and ventures once more into his own personal giant robot hell with the first four episode movies of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. Then it’s Andrew’s turn to show his mettle in the fight against evil as he tackles Season 2 Part 2 of My Hero Academia, and Producer Rob winds things up with some Aztec/Mayan/Incan-inspired fantasy action in Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers.

  • Keyframe 120 - Love Live! Sunshine !! // Kiss Him, Not Me!

    17/07/2018 Duração: 01h01min

Fujoshi, And Proud! In his ongoing quest to have everyone eat healthy, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has declared war on … cartoon characters? It actually makes more sense when you know the facts so moving swiftly on, Grr Martin’s 1980 children’s book The Ice Dragon is getting an animated feature film, Disney Princesses will be in force in Wreck-It-Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet, and Teddy Ruxpin returns from the animated wilderness for a surprise reboot. After that it’s time for Tucky to explain why it’s okay for him to like Love Live! Sunshine!!, before Mark and Producer Rob find out how a reverse-harem works in a fujoshi-tinged world with the anime adaptation of Junko’s Kiss Him, Not Me! • Keyframe 119 - Fate/Grand Order: First Order // Hyouka // ...

    27/06/2018 Duração: 57min

Elmo Joins A Gang Apparently there was a big wedding somewhere and shockingly, none of us were invited. This meant we had to stay in the study and browse the animation news, which led us to some disturbing discoveries like Thundercats Roar (which has the potential to be some kind of physical release ... pun very much intended), physical releases of anime in the U.K., and the rather spectacular trailer for The Happy Time Murders which also has a physical release … This week our featured anime include the Stein;Gate-esque time-travelling antics of Fate/Grand Order: First Order and the energy-saving high-school mystery shenanigans of KyoAni’s Hyouka. • Keyframe 118 - Mind Game // Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig // Boss Baby (Series) // ...

    10/06/2018 Duração: 58min

A Psychedelic Night In So aside from Producer Rob confusing his Sarahs (it should be Sarah Michelle Gellar and not Sarah Jessica Parker), Peter Rabbit gets a sequel, Netflix and Viz Media announce an original martial arts anime series set in Mexico, and Christiano Ronaldo gets animated. After that we’ve got kids versus cats for the attention of the parents (even though the cats really wouldn’t care), in Boss Baby: Back in Business, cyberpunk film-noir with Kenji Kamiyama’s Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig and Masaaki Yuasa’s “what did I just watch” movie Mind Game. • Keyframe 117 - Ghost on the Shell: Stand Alone Complex // Aggressive Retsuko

    01/06/2018 Duração: 55min

Death Metal Trash Panda It’s a sparse week in animation as not much of interest happened, except for the trailer for Teen Titans Go! To The Movies and the English language summary of The Association of Japanese Animation’s industry report for 2017. The trailer splits opinions between Tucky and Producer Rob, but all is well as they get to nerd-out with facts and figures related to anime. After that it's time for the serious stuff, and this week we're focusing on the cyberpunk film-noir stylings of the magnificent Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and Aggretsuko (or Aggressive Retsuko) - a death metal comedy series starring anthropomorphic animals. Who says anime isn't fun? If you've enjoyed this podcast, then please follow us on Twitter @KeyframePodcast or on other social media by searching for The Geek Show. • Keyframe 116 - Assassination Classroom // Dragon Ball // Yusibu

    25/05/2018 Duração: 01h04min

Giant Furry Space Hoppers Guillermo Del Toro has signed a multi-film deal with Dreamworks Animation to create “family” movies - which basically means that anything that they churn out that has his name on it is definitely getting watched by us (even if it’s Boss Baby 73: Where Does It All Come From?). In other news, Aardman take everyone by surprise with the announcement of a sequel to Chicken Run, and Aichi Prefecture in Japan have announced the creation of a Studio Ghibli theme park.  Our featured anime are Assassination Classroom Season 2 Part 2, Dragon Ball movies 3 & 4 (The Tree of Might and Lord Slug), and I Couldn't Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job - which is more commonly known as Yusibu. • Keyframe 115 - Isle of Dogs // Big Fish & Begonia

    18/05/2018 Duração: 59min

Curing The Dubstep Flu It’s the dynamic duo of Tucky and Producer Rob at the helm this week, but don’t worry as we’re absolutely sure we know that we’ve got the good ship Keyframe pointing in the right(ish) direction. Before we get into the serious stuff we discover that Dreamworks Animation have announced a second series of Kung Fu Panda, and in a very surprising and confusing move, the return of Rocky & Bullwinkle. After that we dive into the wonderful stop-motion world of Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs before we head further East for a veritable feast-for-the-eyes with Liang Xuan and Zhang Chun’s Chinese classics-inspired Big Fish & Begonia. • Keyframe 114 - Violet Evergarden // Overlord // Death March // ...

    09/05/2018 Duração: 56min

Post-War Pat’s Big Bag of Letters With the sad news that Ghibli co-founder and legendary anime director Isao Takahata passed away, we take some time to remember some of his remarkable work. After that it’s time for us to continue our examination of the Winter season in anime, so join us as we point ourselves in the general direction of Pop Team Epic, Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody, The Junji Ito Collection, The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Overlord II, Killing Bites and Violet Evergarden. • Keyframe 113 - My Hero Academia // Skip Beat! // ...

    05/05/2018 Duração: 59min

24 Carrots And A Leaf We had a few technical issues during this episode so we apologise for the audio quality. Girl Power makes a surprising return this week with the announcement that The Spice Girls are getting their very own animated superhero movie. There’s no point looking at us for answers. We’re not sure what’s going on either! After that it’s time for our featured cartoon and anime, which this week consists of more weirdness in the form of the Supernatural/Scooby Doo crossover episode, My Hero Academia season 2 part 1, and the ever-wonderful hell-hath-no-fury adaptation of Yoshiki Nakamura's shoujo romantic comedy manga Skip Beat! We close off proceedings with our recommendations from the Winter season in anime. • Keyframe 112 - Prison School (Live Action) // Digimon Tri // Cowboy Bebop (Movie)

    21/04/2018 Duração: 01h03min

A Shakespearean Bromance Spring time is upon us which means we’ve been let out to frolic in the fields! Before that though, there’s the serious business of animation to contend with, and nothing comes more serious than a census. Not the kind that measures population growth, density, divergency, or any of the other things that might be relevant, but an anime “census” … In other, slightly more important news HiDive have announced that they will release dubcasts within two weeks of an episode’s original broadcast date, and network favourite Vinland Saga is getting an anime adaptation! After all of that it’s time for Mark to explain why the live-action version of Prison School isn’t actually porn, Tucky to explain why Digimon Adventure tri. Determination (which we're pretty sure is meaningful in some way, we're just not sure how), and Producer Rob to takes everyone back to happier times with the Cowboy Bebop movie Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door. • Keyframe 111 - Godzilla: Planet of Monsters // Dragon Ball Z (Movies)

    13/04/2018 Duração: 01h11min

Old Man Godzilla So Nicholas Cage is finally going to get to play the role of Superman, but the only problem is that it will be in the Teen Titans Go! Movie. In other news, we have the first teaser for the anime adaptation of ‘s high school sumo manga Hinomaru Zumou, Kenichi Sonoda’s Gunsmith Cats are getting a kind of reboot, and Netflix Japan are going to offer you an option for just the best bits from each anime episode. After all of that it's time for a quick tour of celebrity kaiju stomping grounds in Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters Part 1 before we return to simpler times in Dragon Ball Z with the first two movies - The Dead Zone & The World’s Strongest. • Keyframe 110 - Princess Arete // Attack on Titan Season 2

    03/04/2018 Duração: 01h10min

Hooray For Jim! Animation is serious business so this week we scrutinise the trailers for Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 and BallMastrz: 9009 through the lenses of our stop-motion microscopes. After that we dissect Crunchyroll's Anime Awards for 2017 as we really want to know why … ? Not why anything. Just why? In amongst all of that "science" are our featured anime, which are Princess Arete - Sunao Katabuchi's feature-length adaptation of Diana Cole's feminist children's fairytale The Clever Princess - and the second season of Attack on Titan. A Game Of Segues Confusion reigns this week as the alcohol flows (for one of us anyway), wigs are glued and Reboot gets a reboot. In other news, Sega and Paramount pictures pick up the gauntlet thrown by Nintendo and announce a Sonic the Hedgehog feature film, and Kumo Kagyu's dark fantasy light novel series Goblin Slayer gets an anime adaptation after its successful manga adaptation by Kousuke Kurose. • Keyframe 108 - God Eater // Chrono Crusade // Steamboy

    07/03/2018 Duração: 56min

The Empire Ran On Tea So we're back once again on our ongoing exploration of the great sea of animation, and this week we found a teaser trailer for The Incredibles 2 floating in the shallows around Pixar Island. After that we get into a fight with God Eater (which is adapted from the hit video game franchise from Bandai Namco), and wax lyrical about Chrono Crusade (adapted from the manga by Daisuke Moriyama), before we let our inner steampunk personas out for a spin with Katsuhiro Otomo's period sci-fi movie Steamboy. • Keyframe 107 - Tokyo Ghoul (Live Action) // Grimgar // Nurse Witch Komugi

    02/03/2018 Duração: 01h07min

RUN! It’s a Pixelated Cockroach! Keyframe rides again, and this time we’ve got a new member for our conga line as we parade through multi-sensory theme park attractions, Bob Marley’s music, samurai bunnies and a new animated feature set on Hawaii during Halloween that has a suitably cringe-worthy name (see if you can guess what it is). In one of our rare changes to “normal” service we’ve got another live-action anime/manga adaptation in the form of Tokyo Ghoul, after which it’s business as usual with Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions (apparently Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is too difficult for us Brits), followed by Nurse Witch Komugi R. Having A Chuuni Moment This week we brace ourselves after the announcement of a new Mario Bros. movie (but thankfully it may not be live-action). We also get our first look at the new design of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Netflix announces several surprising partnerships to produce exclusive anime. After that it’s time for the main event with Sword of the Stranger, Fairy Tail collection 22 and Sym-Bionic Titan. 11/02/2018 Duração: 48min

Wreck-It Ralph's Slash Fiction Adventure We're a man down, but with stiff upper lips we'll soldier on! This week we kick things off with a look at the nominations for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards (cue the anger and derision), before before we take a look at the trailer for Bilal - an uncommonly mature CG movie that may surprise a lot of people. After that it's down to business with the supernatural school-based comedy anime Re-Kan! and the very British anti-war film When The Wind Blows.
