This battle was the precursor for clearing operations that would set the conditions for "the surge" which ultimately neutralized insurgent groups in this part of Baghdad during the spring and summer of 2007. In Jeff Morris's book, "Legion Rising", he describes his time as a commander of a unit that is caught up in one of the fiercest firefights of the war, the battle of Haifa Street. He previously joined us in Episode 291 to share what happened during that battle where he lost 8 men during and then after due to their wounds. He shared that while looking in the mirror after the battle, "A burning sensati

EP-327 | One Team, One Fight
10/02/2023 Duração: 43minOne Team, One Fight is the name of a beer brewed by veteran Matt Berger, but it also represents how veterans should join together to support one another post military transition as they did while on active duty. Matt served eight years in the U.S. Army (2006-2014) as a mechanic with one tour in Afghanistan (09-10) with the 82nd Airborne Division. He separated the Army and after a while ended up at Line Creek Brewing Co., where he began brewing beer. The brewery decided that they wanted to create a beer and support local veteran non-profits. They asked Matt to lead the effort to create a great tasting beer for this fundraiser. We discuss the impact that this creation had on Matt, his role in the process, and how what he does today helps him deal with the invisible wounds of combat.
