    Some songs for the first of May, celebrating the great English traditions of this special day. Plus some interesting new music from Ontario's The Deep Dark Woods, Welsh singer The Gentle Good and his new project combining his native music with trad from Assam, some tasty Chinese folk rock from Manhu, and lots of great fiddlers and singers. Bookended with two kora masters, Toumani Diabate and Ballake Sissoko.

    An atmospheric blend of new releases from the likes of Toumani Diabate & The L.S.O., Chinese band Manhu, Corsica's L'Alba, and the latest Songlines Magazine sampler started the show. Also threw in some classic cuts from Orchestra Baobab and Kora Jazz Band and a new single from Dobet Gnahore. Then a pipeline protest song, new songs from Allison Russell, Annabelle Chvostek, and Maria Muldaur - and a couple of stunning tracks from the new CD by Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi. Some classic blues, some brilliant bluegrass, a few songs in Welsh, and a tribute to English singer Sandy Denny, who passed away 43 years ago this week.

    Celebrating 40 years in Canada this weekend, I spun new releases from Toumani Diabate & The LSO, Ballake Sissoko, Rhiannon Giddens, Peggy Seeger, Annabelle Chvostek, The Banter, Martin Simpson, Magpie Arc, and a slew of Canadian artists like Spirit of the West, Rum Ragged, Beolach, Pharis & Jason, and Fear of Drinking. What a great country this is!
