To grow in God’s kingdom, we sometimes have to refocus our vision. Barnabas did this in Antioch, when God brought unexpected people to saving faith. Barnabas saw God’s grace, and was glad. How does God want to refocus our vision in this COVID time?

Barnabas (from the Bible, not our pastor) was a key encourager in the early church. What can we learn from his response to and interaction with Saul? How can we be encouragers today and how do we discern what next step to take?

The world needs encouragement right now, doesn’t it? How can we live as encouragers when many of us need encouragement, too? The Encouragers series looks at the life of Joseph - nicknamed Barnabas, which means "son of encouragement." Listen to the story of Barnabas.

What do we do when faced with a challenge in life? Do we ignore it, avoid it, run from it? What does it mean to be "more than conquerors"?

By the Holy Spirit, we are connected to God. Do we realize what that means? God is restoring God’s kingdom, so all things (even this virus) will work together for our good. God knows us, grows us, claims us, and promises us eternity and glory. God has given us a destiny!

We experience suffering—in fact, all creation is groaning for redemption. We see this especially in this COVID time! Humanity’s sin damaged God’s good creation, but not beyond God’s ability to restore. We groan, awaiting glory with faith.

By the Spirit, God adopts us into his family. We are heirs with Jesus Christ! We are therefore not slaves: not slaves to sin, and not slaves to some set of religious laws either. But neither are we lawless: we gratefully learn how to live in this family. In this isolated time, we need one another as signs of grace. To learn more about small groups, visit libertycorner.org.

The good news of the Gospel is much more than having the right answers or the secret passcode to get into heaven. It means that this life, even with its suffering, is a life is a worth living, because of God’s amazing grace. We were once God’s enemies, but because of Jesus, we have become friends of God.

We see God’s love profoundly when we see Jesus on the cross. Looking over the scene of a mob mocking him, his accusers gloating, and his executioners casually gambling for his only possessions, Jesus prays for their forgiveness. We stand at the foot of that cross, along with anyone who has hurt us. Jesus’ words are for us, too: “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.”

One of the greatest ways we can be good news is to share THE good news of Jesus! Whatever our circumstances (Paul was in prison!), can we find ways to lovingly invite others to know God’s love?

Sometimes, we can be least loving toward those God calls us to love most, such as our spouses, kids, parents, and coworkers. Sometimes, God has placed these people in our lives that we may learn to love! How can you share God’s love to those closest to you?

As James notes, the tongue can start a wildfire! Or, it can praise God and love others. What words will you share this week--in person, in writing, and over social media?

Colossians 3 says that since we have been raised with Christ, let us set our minds on things above. Paul then encourages us to ensure that our actions line up with what Christ has done for us. What are some ways you can love others around you with your actions?

The good news is not about leaving this world, but about God resurrecting this world. As a result, we have the promise that everything we do in the kingdom of God now will somehow be reflected in the kingdom forever - and on top of that, God promises a reward! What a great motivation to spend our lives in ways that truly matter...forever.

God is on a mission to restore God’s kingdom. We are God’s mission field...and we are God’s missionaries! In this message, Pastor Barnabas shares how God reached him for the first time, and how God used an ordinary woman to transform her community.
