May 14, 1948 - “The Land of Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and political identity was shaped. Here they first attained to statehood, created cultural values of national and universal significance and gave to the world the eternal Book of Books. After being forcibly exiled from their land, the people kept faith with it throughout their Dispersion and never ceased to pray and hope for their return to it and for the restoration in it of their political freedom.”

The scripture is very clear, that when the Lord Jesus Christ returns to the earth, all nations will be deceived. There will be a world wide deception.  The Hebrew prophet Jeremiah says, "O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.” (Jeremiah 16:19)

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, the West has made a coordinated effort to isolate Russia, cutting off financial and computer services dependent on the Internet. These moves could backfire now that Russia has been forced to operate independent of the West. An attack by Russia on offshore infrastructure, such as Internet cables, would cause catastrophic economic damage to the West, but significantly less to an increasingly isolated Russia. Putin seems to be preparing options for retaliation that may have seemed unthinkable during more peaceful times.

Ezekiel 38 describes a changing of the guard in the hegemony over Europe from the USA into Russia's Court. France's Macron has advocated moving away from US hegemony financially, militarily and industrially. The EU's president agrees, and nations such as German, Turkey and Hungary are singing out of the same hymn book. 

David Billington speaking with Yehudah Glick for Bible in the News.This week for Bible in the News, we were able to sit down with Rabbi Yehudah Glick in Jerusalem. Yehudah is a former member of the Israeli parliament - the Knesset, he served as Executive Director of the Temple Institute, and currently serves as the President of the Shalom Jerusalem Foundation (www.shalomjerusalem.org). He also encourages people from all over the world to connect to Zion and helps people to ascend the Temple Mount. He looks for the day when Zion will be known as a house of prayer for all nations.

In the background in the Knesset, amidst the uproar around the judicial reforms, another small step has been made by the current coalition. However, to understand this we must first go back to 2005. 

This week we witness the AUKUS deal - signifying Tarshish and her young lions rallying together and strengthening ties as we’d expect from Bible prophecy.

The recently sworn in government of Israel, is by far the most religious, right wing government in Israel’s history. The repercussions of this government have already been felt in many ways. One of the hallmarks of the new government’s first months in office has been the controversial Judicial reforms.

Putin has put Russia on a war footing, turning its defence industries into round-the-clock production facilities. He has suspended Russia's involvement in the START Nuclear Treaties, causing fear in the west of nuclear war. The scripture predicts the preparations for war and the re-armament of the world in anticipation of Armageddon. 

This week a Bible is literally in the news as it has been announced that the world’s oldest complete Hebrew Bible, the Codex Sassoon is going up for auction this May. It is believed to have been copied out in the Levant 1,100 years ago and is believed to be the oldest copy of the Hebrew Bible that includes all the books we have in the Old Testament today.

We review what the Bible says about earthquakes in the latter days as major earthquakes rock the Middle East.

It was just under a year ago, on February 24 that Russia invaded Ukraine. The war has not gone in a way that many had expected. Russia moved in quickly, it seemed like Ukraine would fall and the war would be over in short order. This however did not happen. From a Bible prophecy stand point we understand that the angels are at work and they will bring a situation out of this war, beyond what we may have anticipated. Almost a year in, we ask the question, is Russia losing the war? More importantly from a Bible prophetic view, we may ask, “Why is the war dragging on?”

On Tuesday this week, Isla Bryson, a transgender woman who raped two women was convicted and awaits sentencing next month. Isla Bryson first appeared in a scottish court in 2019 whilst known as Adam Graham. However, in the following year, Bryson told Jurors that he had made the decision to begin transition from a man to a woman

Russia was long understood to be the power referenced in Ezekiel 38 as Rosh, and today it is standing up against Ukraine and the west with an imperialist dream of rebuilding its empire.  Although Germany, France, and the United States want to hold Russia back, they are hesitant to provide the real military support Ukraine needs.  Regardless, under pressure they are slowing getting dragged into another war in Europe.

Israel’s national birth is completely unique and an absolute miracle. This year marks the 75th anniversary since Israel’s birth in 1948. As far as nations go that is not a long time. It’s only 78 years since the end of World War II in Europe and the surrender of Germany on May 8, 1945. Before that date the Jewish people in Europe were being exterminated in the Nazi death camps — the most organized and documented genocide ever. Before the Jewish people were regathered to their ancient homeland, they were dispersed in over 100 different countries, speaking over 80 different languages. When the state of Israel was proclaimed in 1948, 5 established and well equipped Arab armies immediately invaded the newborn country. In another miracle, Israel survived this onslaught. How they came to form a nation, from the ashes of the Holocaust, against all odds is truly a stunning miracle. Israel has also become one of the more advanced nations in the world, producing many advancements and inventions

Since the 1990s Israel’s politics have followed a general trend towards the right. The so called “peace process” championed by Israel’s left-leaning government of the time resulted in a worsening security situation which climaxed in the 2nd intifada in the early 2000s, and a new landscape of Israeli politics was born.  

Psalm 102:13-16 “thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion, for time to favour her, yea the set time is come. For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof. So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory. When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.”

Welcome to our weekly Bible in the News podcast! We continue to watch Saudi Arabia with interest. You may remember some months ago, it was reported that Saudi Arabia had opened their airspace to Israeli planes. Well, things seem to be continuing to progress along those lines.

Recent events in Iran show the antagonism Iran has against the West and in particular Israel. This fits the pattern of the Bible prophecies that depict Iran as an aggressor against Israel in the latter days.
