But the world knows not “the thoughts of Yahweh, neither understand they His counsel (plan)”

Thursday May 21st was "Jerusalem Day," and marked 42 years since the city was reunified as a result of the 1967 Six-Days War. At a ceremony that was held to celebrate that event, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "United Jerusalem is Israel's capital. Jerusalem was always ours and will always be ours. It will never again be partitioned and divided."

If we go back in history, we discover that the Vatican has been against the idea of the State of Israel from the start. In the book "The Vatican and Zionism" by Sergio I. Minerbi, he points out that "...the Holy See's policy toward political Zionism is inseparable from the Catholic Church's religious stand regarding the Jews." and he notes that, "For hundreds of years, the Catholic Church has taken the theological position that the Church is the "true Israel" and the exclusive heir of the Bible." On May 19, 1896 when Herzl met with the nuncio, or Vatican Ambassador in Vienna and made a proposal for a Jewish state with Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nazareth extra-territorialized and the capital elsewhere, the Ambassador's reply was: "I believe Rome will be against us, because she does not consider the solution of the Jewish Question in a Jewish state, and perhaps even fears it."

Hello, this is Paul Billington bringing you this week's edition of the Bible in the News. And the news this week has been dominated by the outbreak of Mexican swine flu. TIME had the foreboding headline: "Swine Flu's First Fatality: A Chronicle of Deaths Foretold." A Canadian newspaper weighed in with a front-page alert: "All Humanity urged to Fight Swine Flu Pandemic." The Brits of northern England were assured that a "Million doses of flu drug on way north."

Welcome. This is David Billington with you to comment on the Bible in the news. The spirit of our times found expression this week in the Durban II conference. A conference supposedly against racism. Yet on the opening day of the conference, the pariah President of Iran, Ahmadinejad, had been invited to speak. Ahmadinejad is a man who would like to see the murder of 6 million Jewish men, women and children that live in the Jewish State. This is equivalent to having Hitler speak on the opening day of a racism conference. Well, at least it should show everyone what a farce this is. Yet in the words of Jeremiah the prophet: "The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?" That is the problem, the people love to have it so. They invited Ahmadinejad to speak because they really agree with his triade against the Jews and their state. George Mitchell, Barack Obama's personal envoy to the Middle East, has come to Israel with the message that the "Push for two-states begins now". The Americans are now officially pushing for an Arab state in the heartland of Israel with Jerusalem as its capital. Welcome to the Bible in the News.

Obama's trip through Europe and the Middle East has revealed his government's position on several vital issues including the European Union, Russia's role in her defense, Turkey's role in Europe, the West's relationship with Islam, and his views on Israel.

Welcome to the April 3rd, 2009 edition of Bible in the News. This is Glenn Abel with you. Last week marked the 30th anniversary of the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt. On March 26, 1979, the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty was signed in Washington DC by Egyptian President, Anwar al-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister, Menachem Begin. In exchange for peace, the Israeli government gave up the Sinai Peninsula which had been captured during the six-day war of 1967. This week, we are going to spend some time looking at Egypt in Bible Prophecy, and at how those events were seen by Bible Students at that time.

The Western powers are struggling in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Israel is struggling with Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas and the Palestinians. Yet the prophet Ezekiel predicts a time of peace in the Middle East before Armageddon. Welcome to the Bible in the News this is David Billington.

You probably know several people that have lost their jobs - maybe you have yourself. This weeks Time magazine cover shows a person's hands grasping a rope which is frayed and soon will certainly snap. The heading reads, "Holding on for dear life". Many people no doubt feel this way and nerves are frayed just like the rope in the picture. The rope could also depict the uncertain riches the people have pinned their hopes upon. Consider 1 Timothy 6:17:

Benjamin Netanyahu has been endorsed by the majority of the parties, which have been elected to make up the next Israeli Government. It seems quite certain that Netanyahu will be the next Prime Minister of Israel. This is David Billington with you for this week's, Bible in the News!

The frog spirits are gathering the nations.
