Hello! This is Paul Billington bringing you another edition of the Bible in the News as archaeologists in Israel announce plans for major excavations at the famous Western Wall - digging down to the very foundations of the 'Kotel' (or Kosel, meaning "Wall") where Jews offer their prayers today.

Iran threatens to blast Israel. Barak Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize. Riots erupt over Jews visiting the Temple Mount, 12 policeman are hurt as the violence spreads. A 50-year old Israeli woman sustains a major head injury from Arab rock throwers in the West Bank. Obama must soon decide whether to send another 40,000 soldiers to fight in Afghanistan.

During his passionate speech to the nations of the world, Netanyahu appealed to the UN to remember it's charter and not forget the evils of the past Pointing out the bias against the Israeli people, he asked the world to open its eyes to what is really going on in the Middle East. In the wake of this, the Bible clearly defines the terms of judgement God will use in the latter day.

“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer… to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.

Obama delights the Russians by abandoning the missile defence system for Europe which former President Bush planned. Israel's Netanyahu says he will NOT freeze life in the West Bank as demanded by the U.S. and others. Britain faces growing violence on its streets as protests increase against Islamic extremism.

September 11, 2001 is one of those days where we can all remember where we were and what we were doing when we first heard. We all have our stories that we can tell; the things that impressed our minds in some way, or that disturbed us. On that fateful day I watched the events unfold on television at work. Any work was inevitably suspended as the employees gathered around the television. By the time the third and fourth jetliners did their damage you could sense the fear in the room and then the twin towers collapsed! There was distress of nations with perplexity and men's hearts were failing them for fear as they observed the things happening in our world, as the greatest nation in our world was shaken to its core.

This is Paul Billington bringing you this week's programme--and the focus this week is the on-going struggle for the Holy Land between Israel, the Palestinians, and the Catholic Christians. This controversy is now involving archaeology, art, and the media, who are supposed to be telling the rest of the world what is going on, but rarely give us the straight goods.

This November will mark 5 years since the famous "Orange Revolution" in Ukraine, when large protests were instrumental in bringing to power a more pro-western president. The more pro-western demonstrators adopted the color orange in their large protests, which is why this is called the Orange Revolution. During that election the west clearly backed one side and Mr. Putin and Russia the other. The Catholic Church also backed the pro-western candidate. On November 28, 2004 a week after the disputed Ukrainian election, Pope John Paul II noticed a group in the crowd at St. Peters waving orange banners in support of "orange" opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko. In acknowledgment of the protesters he said: ""My thoughts go to the Ukrainian pilgrims present in this square. I assure you of my prayer for peace in your country." It was the second time in four days that the Pope had singled out Ukraine. The 5 million Greek Catholics and 1 million Catholics in Ukraine clearly supported the "Western" candidate.

When Christendom begins to show its true colours to the Jews, and when the Jews--especially those in Israel--begin to resist the religious and political pressures being brought to bear, then we know that we are on the home straight to "the battle of that great day of God Almighty."

Jeremiah reveals to us where the heart of God is at in the restoration and the redemption of Israel. As Jews return from Yemen fulfilling Bible prophecies Christians and Jews alike are fighting against the purpose of God in restoring His people to the mountains of Israel.

Obama continues to push Israel hard to freeze all growth of the so-called settlements, in the mountainous area of Judea and Samaria, known today as the West Bank. In response a poster is being put up in Israel with the slogan, "Obama! Let my people grow." Obviously a take off from when - in the words of the famous song - Moses asked Pharaoh to "Let my people go!" The situation at the time of the Exodus is described in the book of Exodus 1:7-10:

Most frequently this connects us to Bible prophecy, and so it is again this week as we see Iran in an uproar-- near revolutionary situation--as opposition leaders and protesters confront police and the government of Ahmadinejad.

There is a rise again this year in North American Jews making aliyah (immigration of Jews to Eretz Israel, the cornerstone of Zionist ideology.), the Jewish Agency estimates that 2009 will see an increase of 15% in the number of North Americans immigrating to Israel. A 12% increase has already been documented for the first third of 2009 (January through April) compared with the same period in 2008. The summer months generally see the largest numbers of Olim (new immigrants).

The European Union introduced the Euro as a way to tie the nations of Europe together - but also as a method of decreasing the United State's economic dominance. Now Russia is calling for a new world currency and the Vatican has just released an encyclical calling for a new world economic order. The book of revelation is being revealed before our eyes.

As president Obama tours the Middle East we welcome you to another edition of the Bible in the news. It is a very interesting time in the world, we are constantly watching the world with our Bible in hand for the events to take shape according to scripture. We are given the end view but sometimes the road we are going to take to get there is hard to see. This week most of the talk seems to be around the travels of Barak Hussein Obama and in particular his speech in Cario to the Muslim world.
