Bible In The News

The world’s attention is focused on the 16th summit meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement hosted by Iran. The Deomocratization of the Middle East one one of the themes, but the big issue was creating a New World Order... but the question is who is really behind this?

With Iran accelerating its uranium enrichment programme, having commissioned 300 new centrifuges in recent months, and with Hezbollah, this week, conducting 10,000 strong, 3 day, maneuvers in the Beqaa Valley, in preparation for war with Israel (a war that could see Hezbollah unleash its arsenal of several tens of thousand rockets, including several thousand capable of reaching Tel-aviv, of which some can carry a 600kg warhead), and with the Muslim brotherhood appearing to consolidate its power in Cairo, whilst at the same time the nations of the world use their weight to prevent Israel doing anything to defend itself, it is difficult to imagine how Israel could ever reach a condition where they are lulled into such a false sense of security, that they are willing to lay down their arms and give up their defenses.

The European debt crisis has been going on for so long now, that it has honestly become pretty boring. How long can politicians discuss whether Greece should leave the Eurozone or not? It has been discussed ad nauseum, whether Greece would be poorer in the Eurozone or out of it. The consensus seems to be they would be more financially strapped if they left. So, why not just decide to stay and deal with austerity? The real question however, which seems to be rarely mentioned, as if it was almost a taboo subject, is if Greece should relinquish her sovereignty or not? If that is the question, would not the clear answer be to leave the Eurozone? Isn't freedom worth much more that a few years of austerity? Maybe the answer is that Greece's sovereignty is long gone, as will the sovereignty of the other Eurozone nations, which are on the brink of bankruptcy.

As the Olympics get into full swing, we are reminded of the powerful lessons which the Bible presents to us in relation to how we should live lives pleasing to God. This is Matt Davies joining you for another Bible in the News.

This past week the Economist carried a special section on Judaism and the Jews entitled “Alive and well”. While the Economist is not known to be friendly to the Jews or to the State of Israel, it is notable that such a series of articles were put together to form a special report on the state of Judaism in the world. This is a testimony to the Bible in the news.

The Bible has much to say about "news." It tells us about "glad tidings," which is an archaic phrase that we find in the King Jams Bible, meaning "good news." You will find it in Luke 1:19; Luke 8:1; Acts 13:32 and Romans 10:15.

The news this week has been packed with stories of senseless and dreadful violence. A shooting at a cinema in Denver Colorado left 12 people dead and 59 injured. A bus was bombed in Bulgaria killing 5 Israelis. Civil war continues in Syria with its massacres of countless civilians, and others have been killed in various assassinations, murders and gruesome acts of horror.

For this week's Bible in the News David Billington examines the prophecies of Daniel 11 and 12 and Ezekiel's prophecies of restoration.

The economic spider's web being created in Europe is designed to control the nations and forge them together to form the Image described in Daniel 2.

This Friday June 29, in St. Petersburg Russia, UNESCO granted the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem endangered world heritage status. Welcome to Bible in the News this is David Billington with you. Thirteen of the 21 members of the World Heritage Committee voted in favour. The move was a very political one as the Church was designated an heritage site in "Palestine" and not in Israel. Palestine is a non-existant nation. This is part of the effort by the Palestinian Arabs to be recognized unilaterally as a member state of the United Nations.

After much concern from European leaders as to the future of Greece there is a renewed hope for stability in the Eurozone as Greece forms a new government and plans our started to outline the future of Europe. This is Matt Davies joining you for another "Bible in the News".

With Vladimir Putin back in full power in Russia we can expect tough dealing with the United States and other Western powers. Already we see him adopting a strong position on Syria and on Iraq. We shall see a difficult time ahead for Western Europe, and we expect to see Europe chained. Indeed the process of economic break-up now taking place can only lead to Russia's rise to dominance.

Welcome to the Bible in the News with Nick Barnes. When Hosni Mubarak was forced from the office, of Egyptian president, in Febuary 2011, it was widely seen as a popular revolution where pro-democracy demonstrators had overthrown an oppressive dictator. However, in reality, these libertarians never made up a large portion of the population, with the protests never exceeding more than 1% of the populace, and even that 1% was a mix of various opinions, including a large proportion of Islamists.

France votes in a socialist president turning its course sharply to the left. World Financiers declared as public enemy. Separate or Super state – the only two choices for Europe.

Sunday May 20th was Jerusalem Day, marking 45 years since Jerusalem was united as a result of the Six-Days war of June 1967. For those of us who carry the memory of that amazing phenomenon, and understand the fulfillment of prophecies related to it—prophecies such as Joel 3:1 and Luke 21:24, it is clearly and indelibly etched upon our minds. The historic announcement on the Israeli radio reminds us of this:

This week's Time Magazine cover crowns Binyamin Netanyahu, "King Bibi", and declares, "He's conquered Israel. But will Netanyahu now make peace - or war?" By "conquering Israel", the cover is referring to the recent move Netanyahu has made, bringing the Kadima party into the coalition, making his government much more stable.

The week began with Putin’s inauguration at the Kremlin in St. Andrew’s hall, the throne room of the Czars, followed by a special prayer service held in the Cathedral of the Assumption, and a spectacular victory parade in Red Square... all speaking to the glory of Russia which will eventually be broken on the Mountains of Israel!

It is widely expected that early elections are to be held in Israel, and that Benjamin Netanyahu will win in order to renew his mandate to govern the country.

It is Israel's 64th birthday and another milestone for the modern state. Israel has made leaps and bounds as a nation in those 64 eventful years of struggle, blood and sacrifice. When one visits Israel today it is quite incredible to consider that the state has only been around for 64 years and even more incredible when one considers the many inventions, technology and medical advancements which the young country has produced. Not only has Israel advanced to become a modern nation, but they have and continue to help third world countries with medical and farming assistance. All this is even more incredible when we remember that the bleeding remnant of European Jewry only emerged from Hitler's ovens a few years before the state was established.

In a hard-hitting speech this week, Israel’s Prime Minister has stated that: “The truth is that an Iran armed with nuclear weapons is an existential threat to Israel’s existence.”... “The truth is that a nuclear Iran is an immediate threat to other nations in the region, and a grave threat to the peace of the world. And the truth is that it is necessary to prevent Iran from getting nuclear arms. That is the obligation of the world, but first and foremost it is our obligation.” Hello again.
