This past week the world was humming with news of President Donald Trump’s decision to decertify the American participation in the Iranian nuclear deal. This was followed by stark reactions around the world. Hostilities almost immediately broke out between Iran and Israel. 

This special series of classes given in Washington, DC, covers the events that led to the establishment of the state of Israel; the miracle of survival of the Jewish people, the involvement and vindication of the Christadelphian faith, the miracle of the regathering from the four corners of the earth, the change in the heart of the nation over the first 70 years, the beginning spiritual reawakening taking place in the land and the future spiritual life that will enter the nation. The final class covers events taking place in the nations around Israel.

We review this in the light of Bible prophecy and consider how accurate the prophets of old have been in describing the current tensions in the region.

As the tiny nation of Israel celebrates its 70th birthday, Bible prophecy figures heavily into the events that have taken place. These same prophecies also give us a clear indication of what Israel’s next 70 years will bring… and this will shake the world to its foundations!

An article in the UK’s “Sunday Express ”made the comment: “It is unclear How Russia will respond the US airstrikes in Syria.”Another paper carried the headline “Braced for Revenge,” and made several suggestions as to how Vladimir Putin might react to the attack on Syria by the USA, Britain and France. It is difficult to see that there will be no face-saving action by Russia - the question is, how far are they prepared to go - and when?We must suppose that there will be a determined and measured counter and that there will be some priority given to it. It is bound to accelerate Russia’s general preparations as indicated by the words of Ezekiel 38:7,“Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a GUARD unto them.”

The April issue of the Bible Magazine is now at the printer and highlights the escalating tensions between Russia and the West, and between Britain and the Autocrat Putin in particular. According to a headline in the U.K.’s Sunday Express:“Russia on brink of WAR threat: Kremlin warns UK is walking a ‘dangerous’ and ‘INSANE’ path.”

The division in the Middle East between the north and the south is been acentuated this week by a number of significant events around the world. In the United States, John Bolton has been appointed as National Security advisor. John is against the Iranian nuclear deal and is heralded as a great supporter of Israel. Ex-Israeli defence minister Shaul Mofaz today said in the past John Bolton pushed for Israeli strike on Iran. This quick change in the American administration follows the sacking of Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. Rex supported the Iranian nuclear deal, while his replacement, Mike Pompeo is adamantly opposed. Also this week Israel suddenly claimed responsibility for destroying a nuclear facility in Syria on the Euphrates river in September 2007. Why the announcement now? Most likely intended to be a warning to Iran about its nuclear facilities. For years it seemed that all any politicians could do was to fight against the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and push for a two-state solution.  Things, however, are changing and changing fast.

Europe is looking to diversify its Russian dominated gas supply, Israel and Egypt joining forces to compete. Alliances are forming between Egypt and Israel to supply gas to Europe, while German and Russia are forming alliances to dominate gas in Europe. This will bring the two groups in to a collision course that has been predicted in the Bible.

Iran has used the vacuum of the Syrian civil war to create a foothold in Syria which has caused great alarm in Israel. This week we look at recent developments with Bible in hand as we see rumblings in the North. Welcome to Bible in the News. This is Matt Davies joining you.

A journalist writing in the U.K.’s Daily Mail (February 6, 2018) says that “Ever since we voted to leave the E.U. the true nature of our so-called ruling classes - from the civil service to the judiciary - has become apparent.”

As we see the fearful sight of Antisemitic and anti-Zionist acts being performed in Europe, in the light of the Bible, what fruit can we expect this development to bear?

Not since the days of Ezra and Nehemiah has the God of Israel been recognized as being at work quite by world leaders as he has the past weeks in the words of Vice President Pence who directly quoted the words of the Bible in front of the world. Trump suggested that Jerusalem is "off the table" but the words of the prophets would suggest otherwise.

It is no secret that the Vatican has always been hostile to the idea of the modern State of Israel, the Jewish state, in the holy land. This is easily demonstrated by the fact that the Vatican did not enter into diplomatic relations with Israel and officially recognize the State of Israel until 1994 — over 45 years after it’s establishment and recognition by the International community. It only did so then, so it could have a greater say and influence over the start of the peace process between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs. On the other hand, the Vatican recognized the non-existant State of Palestine in February 2013 and signed a historic treaty covering the life and activity of the Church in Palestine in May 2015. On January 14, 2017 a Palestinian embassy opened in Vatican City.

According to the U.K.s  Guardian newspaper “The Iranian regime has accused the CIA, Saudi Arabia and Israel of starting what they say are riots” in the country, which is of course the Biblical Persia.  Welcome to Bible in the News, this is Paul Billington with you this week.

Another gentile year has gone by. 2017 has certainly not been uneventful or insignificant in regards to locations, peoples and powers mentioned in latter-day Bible prophecy. In this, our last 'Bible in the News' of the year, we take a look back on some of the key themes and events which connect with Bible prophecy and which are heralding the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ from heaven. This past week Jerusalem has been the centre of World news once again. President Donald Trump’s decision to move America’s Embassy to Jerusalem has triggered a diplomatic crisis across the planet. A UN Security Council meeting was followed by a emergency session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. The nations of the world rose up against America, and Israel - with Jerusalem as the central issue. The prophets clearly identify Jerusalem as being the issue that will bring the nations down into the Middle East to an assembly that will be presided over by the King of the Universe, with different outcomes that the one that just took place.
