  • Episode 43 - Live from the gig!

Tyler took a break from drinking on Florida beaches to visit Danny on tour. Recorded live from Thrice's dressing room in Tampa, this episode features a slew of guests popping in that were unaware of their imminent appearance on the world's most popular podcast.   Reed Murray, drummer of Say Anything and Carrollhood, discussed some of his favorite sports performances and his love of tiki culture and cocktails.   Suge, Thrice's guitar tech, drafted his top five desserts in America.   And then, of course, we talked sports! Your two favorite podcast hosts shot the shit on the NBA Draft in typical fashion- an unrelenting assault of MOLTEN HOT TAKES. Tyler also stole one of Joe Rogan's takes and lit the world on fire in regards to the upcoming Macgregor-Mayweather fight.   This episode features music from Danny's current employer, Thrice. Oh my! A special edition podcast! This week's episode was recorded live and in person at Rock On The Range in Columbus Ohio, and features our friends John Nolan from Taking Back Sunday and Josh Eppard from Coheed & Cambria. We cracked open some delicious IPAs and shouted into the ether about the New York Mets.    John and Josh are both avid Mets fans and have unique relationships with the team. John told us the story of when he got to sing on the field on a day off from tour, and Josh followed it up with his story of when he ate the field. Hungry guy.   Naturally, Jay Bruce came up and everyone involved went off the rails.    Both Coheed and TBS have fantastic new records out and are touring heavily in support of them. Check out the tunes, get to the gig, and throw Zack Wheeler baseball cards on stage.    See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

    10/05/2017 Duração: 48min

John O'Callaghan of Arizona based rock group The Maine called in from his tour date in Milwaukee to shoot the shit about one of the most interesting franchises in baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks.   Being an expansion team, John is in the unique position of having been a fan of the team since day one. We discussed the growing pains of expansion teams, the shocking 2001 World Series championship, and the lack of success for all Arizona sports since.   We also touched on an issue addressed last week on the show- the unfortunate reality that is bad people being given platforms through sports and entertainment.    Mostly, we used this episode to rail on the god awful uniform combinations that the Dbacks continue to trot out. They have flames on their pants!!! Who approved that?!?!!   The Maine are currently on tour supporting their fantastic new record "Lovely Little Lonely" - catch them this summer with Dashboard Confessional and The All American Rejects.   7/25 Columbus, OH Express Live!  7/26 Detroit, MI Fil

  • Episode 35 - Kyle Hart (Boston Red Sox)

    26/04/2017 Duração: 01h06min

Boston Red Sox prospect, and former high school classmate of Danny's, joined us for an awesome discussion about all things baseball.    We discussed the process of becoming a pitcher and how everyone really should be a pitcher, because it's clearly way better than being a position player (his words, not ours.)   Kyle also told us about the harsh reality of rehabilitating a Tommy John operation, and the preconceived notions and bias that Major League Baseball organizations have about college pitchers. Additionally, we dove into the art of the pitcher-catcher relationship. Kyle was a college teammate of Chicago Cubs catcher/outfielder Kyle Schwarber, and spent a good chunk of the episode roasting his very large and intimidating friend.    Last but not least, we discussed the most important statistic in baseball: how far away would you have to be from a deer in order to kill it by throwing a baseball at it.   This episode features music from Kendrick Lamar's exceptional new album "Damn". While he needs no introd

  • Episode 34 - Nick Dika (Arkells)

    12/04/2017 Duração: 59min

Nick Dika of Canadian rock band Arkells joined us this week for a special edition episode where we spent three consecutive hours talking about Joey Votto. Kidding. We wish, though.   Nick's constant traveling, coupled with his work with Baseball Prospectus gives him a unique perspective on the world of baseball and sports. We discussed a myriad of topics, ranging from baseball culture in Canada, to Jose Bautista's facial hair, and Bartolo Colon's secret weapon.   Additionally, we talked a little shop musically. Arkells are out touring on their new record Morning Report and new single "Knocking At The Door." We touched on changes in the music business landscape, and how in modern times you use an album to promote a tour and not vice versa.   Make sure to catch Arkells on tour this spring and summer. If you're at Coachella, Shaky Knees, or Bunbury, you will see your favorite podcast hosts in the crowd. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode 33 - Jon Moscot (Cincinnati Reds)

    05/04/2017 Duração: 47min

To celebrate one full year of Neighborhood Play Podcast, we talked to a real life Cincinnati Red, Jon Moscot. Jon didn't hold back when talking to us about some of the negatives of playing baseball at the major league level, including watching your team struggle while injured and on the bench, and playing home games in front of a crowd full of visiting fans.   This conversation was recorded a couple of months ago, before Opening Day and the World Baseball Classic. The portion of the conversation centered around Team Israel's involvement in the WBC is particularly interesting to look back on now, after Israel's amazing run deep into the tournament.    The talk covered a ton of ground, touching on pretty much every aspect of playing professional baseball in Cincinnati.   Thank you all for dealing with our shenanigans for a full year. It's a ton of fun to get to flex our creative muscles and talk about sports at the same time. We are The Media.   For first time listeners, welcome. We like to think we aren't too

  • Episode 32 - Ben Ingram (Atlanta Braves)

    28/03/2017 Duração: 01h05min

Ben Ingram, one of the voices of the Atlanta Braves radio network, joined Neighborhood Play for an extremely diverse conversation spanning all sorts of topics in the worlds of sports and music. Some topics included responsible reporting, the tendency of some broadcasters to use nostalgia as a crutch, voting controversies in the baseball hall of fame, and the current state of the Atlanta Braves (especially our mutual fan-crush on Ender Inciarte.) Ben is also a huge music fan and we dove into his tastes, including what led him to be an open minded music fan. We discussed current trends in country music, the recent batch of Grammy awards, and his current favorite artists. This music features music from Grammy Award winning country artist Sturgill Simpson. Simpson was a prime topic of discussion on this episode, and his latest record "A Sailor's Guide To Earth" is a must-listen for any music fan out there. • Episode 31- Josh Wills (Story of the Year)

    21/03/2017 Duração: 53min

Josh Wills from Story of the Year joins us to talk all things St. Louis Cardinals on episode 31 of Neighborhood Play Podcast. This episode was recorded during the 2016 season, so some of the takes are dated (but just as hot!) We discussed how Josh became a baseball fan, what being one of the "Best Fans In Baseball" means, the Cardinal Way, and many other topics in this fun conversation. Danny toured with Josh and SOTY back in 2013, and we wanted Josh for the show the second we got things started. During the Cardinals-Red Sox World Series, Danny would run the daily VIP meet-and-greet out of the band's tour bus so that no one had to leave the TV while watching the Cardinals. This is the type of dedication we look for in our guests! Story of the Year is in the midst of recording their first album since 2010's "The Constant". You can be a part of the record by helping them make it! Check out http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/storyoftheyear for more information. *** Neighborhood Play is a podcast designed to exp

  • Episode 30 - Robert Stein (Akron Zips)

    14/03/2017 Duração: 49min

In episode 30 of Neighborhood Play, Danny and Tyler catch up with Danny's old friend Robert Stein. Robert was a kicker for the Akron Zips and shared his incredibly unique story during the course of our conversation. Robert's Zips career got off to a rough start, as he lost his scholarship to another kicker. Not one to wallow in pity, he put his head down and worked diligently to reclaim his starting position. Stein talked to us about the art of kicking in general, including the differences of making a kick when the game is on the line versus the run of the mill extra point. He also told us some juicy gossip about Danny as a pre-school playboy. This episode features music from the band Eisley, who are Danny's current employers. Eisley are now out on their "I'm Only Dreaming" Tour, spanning the whole United States. Catch Danny at South By Southwest this week and give him your hottest take. *** Neighborhood Play is a podcast designed to explore the cultural connections that link cities, teams, and fandoms. Thro

  • Episode 27 - Mark Rose

    22/02/2017 Duração: 48min

Episode 27 of Neighborhood Play Podcast was supposed to be half of a double episode about various Sox related activities, but due to hosting issues we're splitting it up because we are The Media and we are allowed to. Due to our stab at crafting a double episode, Danny recorded this solo while Tyler was at work, so you're only subjected to one nasally voice this time around. Mark Rose, former frontman of Spitalfield and current solo artist, came on the show to break down all things Chicago White Sox. Our conversation covered everything from the Chris Sale trade to the Cubs-White Sox rivalry, and everything in between. We also discussed our favorite beverages! This offseason's Chris Sale trade was a blockbuster of epic proportions, and it was nice hearing from a sane and rational Chicago fan about what it meant to the franchise. Mark Rose is busy working on his amazing website DownWrite, where you can purchase a custom song written by your favorite songwriter about anything you want! Artists of all shapes and

  • Episode 26 - Steve Sladkowski (PUP)

    15/02/2017 Duração: 01h01min

Episode 26 of Neighborhood Play Podcast features a discussion with Steve Sladkowski of Canadian punk band PUP. PUP have rightfully earned the reputation of being one of the hardest working bands in music, and the only thing they work harder on than ripping shows is their sports takes.   Steve took time out of his busy schedule of shredding and drinking to talk about the Toronto Raptors and how they impact Toronto and Canada’s culture. We discuss at length the history of Canadian basketball (Steve Nash! Anthony Bennett!), Drake’s role with the Raptors, and the incredibly dope purple dino jerseys of yesteryear.   Additionally, we got real and talked about Punk Stuff. PUP are proud to be an earnest and hard-working punk band, and we discussed one of the most important venues in punk today: the Masquerade in Atlanta. The Masquerade hosts the annual Wrecking Ball Festival, treats its bands incredibly well, and is home to the world’s greatest celebrity corgi, Punk Rock Milo.
