Richard suggests writing a blog. Speaking of blogs, the dudes have put up a new one at blog.2keto.com where they are posting on a regular basis, and hope you will share their posts on Facebook, Pinterest, or just with your friends.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Tom Naughton, Fat Head

    04/09/2016 Duração: 01h08min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris interview the one and only Tom Naughton, software guy turned comedian turned Netflix star. His documentary, Fat Head, was first made in response to the movie 'Supersize Me' in which a perfectly healthy man ate 3 meals a day at McDonalds for 30 days to see what would happen to him. The results weren't good. Tom's response was to prove that he could also eat McDonalds' food for 30 days and stay healthy, even lose weight. During the process of making the film he learned about low-carb high-fat eating, ketogenic diets, and the like. Nowadays Tom is an advocate for the ketogenic lifestyle and is still poking fun at the ignorance that abounds in the world of health and nutrition. Eratta: Richard and Carl both mentioned that Beverly's husband who had the late night low glucose event could have eaten a small bit of fruit to get his blood sugar up. However, Andrew in our forum suggested a better option. A spoonful of coconut oil goes directly to you liver to b

  • Ted Talks (Dr. Ted Naiman)

Richard Morris and Carl Franklin talk to Dr. Ted Naiman about his experiences treating over 1000 patients suffering from metabolic syndrome with a ketogenic diet and exercise techniques. The conversation goes in many directions. As for the highlights, Ted contributes to the discussion of how much protein we need to eat, and talks about the importance of adding gradual exercise to your lifestyle for maximizing your metabolism. Great show!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Hunger and Nutrition Movies

    21/08/2016 Duração: 50min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris discuss a few of their favorite movies on the subject of nutrition. Following that, the conversation turns to hunger, the difference between real hunger and carb cravings, and strategies for helping you recognize the difference. They also answer questions about keto without a gall bladder, and as usual, provide a couple killer keto recipes. Errata: Richard said that the body makes carboxylic acid to lower the bodies pH, but it is carbonic acid (H2CO3) that is made in respiratory system and the concentrations managed by your kidneys.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Mad as Hell

    16/08/2016 Duração: 01h14min

This week, Carl Franklin and Richard Morris get angry about how the medical establishment hasn't evolved along with science. We KNOW the chain of events that leads to type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Not only do we KNOW how to reverse it, but we knew in the 70's! Why after all this are most doctors still clueless about how to treat it? Richard tells the story of Dr. Gary Fettke, an Australian doctor who removes diabetic feet. He has been treating his patients with a ketogenic diet, and in 2014 was silenced by the establishment. He is not allowed to talk to his patients about nutrition. If that wasn't maddening enough, an interview with Ivor Cummins reveals the diabetes research by Dr. Joseph Kraft in the 70's. Kraft discovered a method for detecting T2DM 20 years before a diagnosis. His research was effectively ignored. The good news is that you can leverage Kraft's research to figure out your risk of diabetes right now with a simple blood test. We're mad as hell, and we're not going to tak

  • The Obesity Code with Dr. Jason Fung

    07/08/2016 Duração: 01h10min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris talk to "The Fastmaster," Dr. Jason Fung about intermittent fasting (IF), extended fasting (EF), diabetes, insulin, metabolism, and doing the simplest thing that works. A word of warning - Dr. Fung uses salty language for emphasis. Obesity and diabetes are epidemic, we all agree. Dr. Fung focuses on insulin and insulin response rather than on carbs as being the only thing that raises insulin. In his clinic, he has hundreds of patients that are all controlling their insulin, and therefore their diabetes. Fasting is one of the most effective methods that they use.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Cooking

    01/08/2016 Duração: 01h23min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris talk about the importance of cooking for yourself. They give their short list of must-have kitchen gear, and also offer cooking techniques for those who don't have a lot of time. This is a fairly long show, jam-packed with tips and techniques to help you get healthy and have more fun in the kitchen! Carl argues that investing time and money in cooking is an investment in your future - analogous to medical expenses. Errata: W mentioned that Muscle weighs more than fat. That's not precisely correct. Muscle is really more dense than fat. 1 litre of muscle weighs more than 1 litre of fat, but it is equally true to say that 1lb of fat takes up more space than 1lb of muscle. So, if you aren't losing weight on the scale grab a tape measure and see if you have lost inches around your belly - that's fat loss and/or muscle gain.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Epic Successes

    25/07/2016 Duração: 01h02min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris consider a few epic success stories, including an amazing story from Kassie and Dustin Ewers, a couple who recently both went Keto. Kassie took a bold step that we're not sure any one of us would take. Was she victorious? Of course she was! You'll have to listen to the podcast to get the rest of the story! Errata: Richard mentioned that insulin concentrations of endogenous insulin at the portal vein is 10x greater than at the periphery. The actual value is 3-10 times and a paper explaining the consequences of using exogenous insulin that has to be at hyperinsulinemic levels at the peripheral vessel walls is linked in our show notes.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

Richard Morris and Carl Franklin discuss the many ways "going keto" can save you money, and how to stretch your cash when less is available.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Non-Scale Victories

    13/07/2016 Duração: 01h05min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris ask the 2KD community to relate their NSVs (Non-Scale Victories) or all of the benefits of a ketogenic diet they've noticed other than weight loss. The results may surprise you. The dudes also announced Ketofest 2017, an idea to hold a ketogenic lifestyle festival in July of next year. If you're interested, go to ketofest.com and get on the mailing list. ErrataL Carl mentioned that a ketongenic diet is specifically good for Rheumatoid arthritis(RA), in fact of the two markers tested it only lowered one, but fasting was shown to lower both. So it may well be that fasting, which we know is easer if you are adapted to a ketogenic diet, is your best strategy to deal with RA.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Being Brenda Zorn

    03/07/2016 Duração: 59min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris interview Brenda Zorn, who's been eating keto since 2014, does intermittent fasting and extending fasting, and also lifts weights while fasted. She talks about the many disease markers that have disappeared since going keto, how this way of eating has helped her overcome depression, and how she has yet to reach a limit when lifting weights. She's a true inspiration! Brenda is also an admin in our Facebook group at fb.2keto.com, and runs her own private group, Keto Ninjas.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • The Big Fat Surprise

    26/06/2016 Duração: 01h25min

In this, the longest 2KD episode yet, Carl and Richard interview Nina Teicholz, author of "The Big Fat Surprise," an award winning book that exposes the politics, bullying, and other malfeasance that led to the suppression of dozens of real randomized trial studies (with real humans - not mice) to determine the danger of eating saturated fat. Guess what the results of all these trials show? You guessed it. Eating saturated fat does not increase the risk of heart disease. Not only that, but eating a well formed high-fat low-carb diet (ketogenic) is protective against heart disease, diabetes, and many other modern ailments. The Big Fat Surprise was named "Science Book of the Year" in 2014 by The Economist.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Ketophobia

    21/06/2016 Duração: 01h03min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris try to get to the bottom of why everyone is so afraid of the ketogenic diet, of eating fat, and lowering carbs. Feeling they talk about themselves entirely too much, Carl and Richard turn to the fans this week for stories of ketophobia, both in themselves and others. The dudes also talk to one Carrie Thompson, who has been eating a ketogenic diet for 18 years. Guess what? She's not dead. In fact, she's a model of perfect health. What's up with that?Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Markers of Disease with Ivor Cummins

    12/06/2016 Duração: 59min

Ivor Cummins joins Carl and Richard to talk about markers of disease. What should you test for? How do you interpret your results? This is often the first decision one makes when considering a lifestyle change to improve your health. Are there better tests you can do for heart disease risk? (hint, yes!) Errata: Richard said his CAC results post on Facebook were shared 48 times, but it's now been 55 times ... 57 times ... 59 times ... ummm many many times.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Eating Patterns

    05/06/2016 Duração: 01h02min

Carl and Richard look back on 4 months of keto and reveal what they consider to be optimal eating patterns based on their own experience, the science to back it up, and the experience of others they've met on the journey. Not to be missed.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Heart Disease

    31/05/2016 Duração: 01h04min

Carl Franklin and Richard Morris talk about the science behind heart disease, a component of cardiovascular disease. What is it? When did it start becoming a real problem? How did it happen? Does a ketogenic diet help mitigate it? Of course, the entire discussion is based on solid science, which they have provided links to. Errata: Richard mentioned the "number needed to treat" or (NTT) for statins is 141. But that is incorrect. The Number needed to treat to save one life for someone who has heart disease is 83. You need to treat 83 people over 5 years with statin therapy to save one life. The NTT to save one life for someone without prior heart disease is 8 because no lives would be saved no matter how many people without heart disease took statins. Carl mentioned that Mahler's bread is only 1 net gram of carbs per slice. There is some controversy around this. Some labels show 5 net carbs and some (including the label on my own loaves) show 1 net carb. We'd like to get to the bottom of

  • Plateaus

    22/05/2016 Duração: 59min

Carl and Richard confront the dreaded plateau, the reason that most people fail on the low-carb diet. In a word, patience. Your body will fight to keep you at your set weight. Maybe it's your gut microbes tugging at your brain. Maybe it's your mitochondria afraid to move on... whatever it is, the dudes have some suggestions and experience to share.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations

  • Losing 290 Pounds with Tom Seest

    15/05/2016 Duração: 01h02min

Carl and Richard interview Tom Seest. Tom is a software developer from Illinois. In 1999 he injured his back falling down stairs. He was always active before the injury, completely stopping all exercise after. He put on weight. A LOT of weight. He estimates he was over 500 pounds. He started an Atkins diet in 2009 and was down to 490 by the end of 2010. He tried various combinations of low-carb, low-fat and low-calorie diets. In April, 2011 he took his first bike ride and went 2 miles. By the end of the month he was up to 20 mile rides. Since then he's logged 21,700 miles, and has cycled all over the US and in many other countries. He managed to drop 200 pounds with a combination of diet and exercise. In January, 2015 he started a ketogenic diet and has taken off an additional 90 pounds! We talk to Tom about his experiences coping with his situation. Errata: Carl mentioned that the fat you eat has no effect on insulin. This is effectively true but technically false. Dietary fat does raise insulin ever s

  • Ketones

    08/05/2016 Duração: 44min

Carl and Richard discuss Ketones. What are they? How are they produced? Are they safe? How can we effectively measure our ketone levels? Does it actually matter? All of these questions and more are answered on this episode of 2 Keto Dudes. Errata: We said we'd talk about consuming ketones but we never did. There is evidence that the mere presence of ketones in the blood stream is beneficial for controlling some kinds of cancer (listen to the cancer show from last week) however, taking ketones isn't a short cut to ketosis. It's like instead of going for a run you just cover yourself with sweat. The process of burning fat and creating ketones is where the magic happens. Carl mentioned that mitochondria are organelles in _every_ cell in the body. But there are some cells like red blood cells that lack a mitochondria - which is why they can only ferment glucose for energy and are unable to use fat for energy. Richard said that the Romans discovered that fasting cures epilepsy, but apparently a Gre

  • Cancer

    01/05/2016 Duração: 56min

Carl and Richard talk to prostate cancer-survivor and friend, Mark Miller. In no way do we intend to claim that the ketogenic diet can cure cancer, but there has been interesting research that shows a correlation between eating a ketogenic diet and reduced tumor size. There's more to the story, and more interventions cited as well. We let Mark tell his story. A note to parents, we do talk about sexual function in this show.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/2-keto-dudes/donations
